Special birthday visit to Hampshire as we both like James Martin's cooking. A James Martin inspired menu, maybe, but we're pretty sure Mr Martin wouldn't serve this if he were cooking. Nice enough, lovely service, family friendly, etc. but the bar is pretty high considering the prices. The two main dishes we had, pan-roasted cod and a beefburger were both just average. Sorry and all that in these post-covid times but that's what we found...

Wonderful meal, as always, at The Kitchen on Easter Sunday. We are always impressed with the friendly service here, nothing is too much trouble for the staff. The food is delicious and some of the menu changes with the season so you can always expect something a bit different. We’ve visited here a number of times and will always return.

Went for a meal on Sunday afternoon after booking 1 week earlier. Beautiful cosy looking restaurant, really helpful, happy staff and the food was 1st class. You get what you pay for here, I recommend the Pork chop, outstanding!

I wanted to say how lovely the staff were. We came here last year and didn't have a good experience with the staff, although the food was great. . But we came back , this was offered as a good will gesture and we had the best time. The food was fantastic and all the staff were helpful and friendly. Myself and my friend are massive James Martin fans. We will be back and would like to try his other resturant the dinning room too . Thank you to the staff for being so attentive

Rather disappointing after all we had read and heard and our great experience in their restaurant. A nice environment spoilt by children running around. Service was incredibly slow. 50 mins wait for starter and three hours for three course lunch. 12.5% service charge added for mediocre service from staff who clearly did not know the menu. First choice wines not available. Food was good but not exceptional and not to the standard of the restaurant.

Right, so we are big fans of James Martin and watch his tv shows regularly so we had maybe high expectations when we visited the kitchen at chewton glen. We were hoping for something on similar lines of Michelin guide type of experience.. We tried the Bao Buns with crab and the crab risotto. Both were nice but didn’t have any wow factor. Felt more like a fancy pub. The food was super heavy and greasy too. Pudding was really nice. Verdict -4/5 Budget - 3 course meal for 2 easily 125 without wines

The fish and chips potion was huge. Lovely fish. The chips were nothing special. The apple tartin was fantastic. Very tasty, very sweet and beautifully presented.

Location was wonderful with lunch taken on the outdoor terrace next to some beautiful landscaping. Service was warm, friendly, and well timed. Food was mixed. Salt and pepper Squid was excellent. Well cooked, crispy, with a well balanced sweet chilli sauce and a generous portion. Thai Crab risotto was perfectly cooked and the spicing was robust and flavourful. However, for Β£18 for a starter, I'd expect more than 2 lumps of crab meat. If you took a bite without crab, you would not know this was a crab risotto. The Lamb rump main was excellent. Generous portion of well cooked lamb, full of flavour and the vegetables and mint salsa verde complimented the meat well. Sirloin steak very disappointing. Very thin cut which meant there's little room for error when grilling and this one was more medium well than medium rare. Had that tight texture and dry mouth feel. For Β£38, this isn't really acceptable and a very stingy portion of questionable quality steak that wasn't well cooked. I know I could cook a better steak and that's never a good sign at this price point. Dessert, we shared the Tarte Tatin which was excellent. Like eating a deconstructed toffee apple. Total bill was Β£175 for 2x starters, 2x mains, 1x dessert, bread, and a bottle of wine. Pleasant lunch but left feeling we could have had better for less elsewhere.

We booked here as a celebration meal when visiting the New Forest for our mini-moon following our wedding. Great restaurant, food was incredible, gluten free options, great wine, my hubby was fascinated watching the chefs in the kitchen. Staff were friendly and the atmosphere was great. Recommend booking in advance.

Been here twice, staff are super friendly and the atmospheres great. Have found the mains on both occasions to be fairly average considering the price. Think the menu could do with a revamp.

My 4th time to The Kitchen last night for my birthday meal and what a great place. So relaxed, with great service, amazing food and a homely feel that is perfect for the setting within the Chewton Glenn grounds. The food is always top notch which is a credit to James and his team. Always look forward to visiting and can’t wait for my return.

Very nice staff, super helpful and attentive. The flatbread starter was divine, the pizza was good but the aubergine salad was awful. Supposed to be burnt aubergine but it was almost inedible and hard, not raw but woefully undercooked. The salad it came with was delicious but burnt it was not. The Knickerbocker desert was amazing and I had the sticky toffee pudding which was average. 1 shared starter, 2 mains with a portion of chips, 2 deserts and 2 coffees Β£99 including 10% service charge. Won't be rushing back. Unfortunately you are paying Chewton Glen Hotel prices for bistro food. The restaurant was cold and I had to keep my coat on to keep warm.

We did have an amazing experience at The Kitchen. Food was delicious, staff were super friendly especially Gabor the Manager, Bonnie, Tom and Lauren. Relaxed atmosphere but with a high standards. Will definitely be back to try other dishes on the menu, highly recommend.
