Casa-Museu José Maria Da Fonseca

Tourist attraction Winery Wine cellar

👍 Went on a group tour and although it could be longer it was a nice intro into the company as they have a lot of history. At the end of the tour we were left to try the red wine & muscat but our guide then left. it would have been nice for her to explain how to try the wine. People often mention tour, wine, tasting, wines, visit, nice, history, recommend, great,

This is a lovely old winemaker with a really long and interesting history. I'm particularly a fan of the sweet wines that they are known for so seeing how they got started was really interesting! The tour is short and sweet at around half an hour to 45 minutes and is just right before the tasting. You get a pleasant still around the lovely grounds and a nice tour of their barrels, cellars and collections of old equipment and medals from hundreds of years ago. The tasting is very pleasant and I recommend you take your time as it gives you some insight into the wines you might like to buy before you leave. Everyone was very friendly and helpful and we had a lovely time!

Guided tour in English with the tasting of 2 premium wines costs 8.50€ per person [you can do the visit, even if it’s just one person - according to the email, which I received]. Normally, the tour is about 45 minutes to 1 hour. The visit is always guided (Portuguese, English). There are several tours per day.

Took my family here for a tour and wine tasting on their visit to Portugal. Booking was easy and communication from JMF was excellent leading up to the tour. Beautiful grounds. The wine cellars/tour was very good. After the tour we enjoyed a three wine tasting with some bread, cheese & sausage in a very nice tasting room. Everything was perfect! In fact, several of us bought a bottle of each of the wines we tasted in the shop on the way out.

One of the best wine tours ever had. Including small museum, gardens, historical cellars and a wine tasting. Strongly recommend to book a visit in advance.

Wine tasting meh. We went here because we were waiting for a wine tasting at Bacalhõa. Quite disappointed. Wrong glass for an expensive tasting. Zero enthusiasm from the receptionist, that appeared quite bored. Maybe a wine tour here can be very nice, but I wouldn’t recommend to go there just for a tasting.

We had such a wonderful experience. Thank you to João for a fantastic and knowledgable tour, and for allowing us to taste and choose our special wine for our wedding day. Definitely worth visiting and experiencing if you are interested in history and wine!

We take 6 wines to try. Most of them tastes really good. Unfortunately, there was lack of information about time closing when we were doing reservation - that means we were forced to drink 6 glass of wine in less than 30min. After we ask for more time we get info drink faster. Not a wine tasting mood I was hoping for.

We booked a tour, which ended up with wine tasting. Quite basic, so if you participated in another wine tour somewhere, it's a similar experience. They were very helpful with the questions though :)

A nice winery, great for moscatel wines. There are massive barrels can store over 20000 liters wine which is impressive.

The tour was given by a friendly lad, but the tour was shallow and ... no vineyard visit. I've been to tours in Moet, Concha Y Toro, Pomery, all of which puts this one to shame. Way too expensive for the offer.

We had a great experience! The tour is very educational and entertaining. Tania was our guide and she was extremely friendly attentive, answering all our questions and giving very extensive answers. We had 2 wines to taste after a tour. You can also buy more glasses to taste. Highly recommended!

Amazing place to visit and taste! I liked the tour guy who was very helpful and willing to answer all questions I had. I have bought two bottles of white dry wine and hoping to bring them carefully back home.

The best wine I have ever tasted! Definitely the best wine of this region of Portugal by comparison. I highly recommend trying the Periquinta Reserve. This is a must visit. Andre was an exceptional tour guide and went above and beyond to ensure an incredible experience. The wine is very affordable!

Excellent winery with a rich and long history of wine making. A tour is highly recommended as they explain their origins and history including prizes won throughout the years. The private collection is impressive and the cellars with Gregorian chants add some unique atmosphere to the experience. Highly recommended.

This winery was great, the tour was very detailed and educational we were able to see the cellars and the barrels very up close. The tour wasnt too long either so that gave us time to look around the store before heading out.
