The worst experience ever. Car given only with 70% of gas tank (which is very difficult to return the same way without penalty). But most importantly, rent extension confirmed via phone with employee at Faro office was in reality 4 times higher, with everybody just redirecting me to somebody else for refund, despite it was confirmed by their employee the day before. Customer service not helping at all. At the end no refund at all. The car itself was with nearly 60000 km mileage and felt like a wreck. I rent cars quite frequently, but this was so far my worst experience by far. And if you want to save some serious headaches and disappointments, choose any other car rental company even if it would cost few bucks extra. This was experience from the hell and it ruined the end of our vacation in Portugal. Centauro never ever again. It was a complete rip off and amateurism.

So heres what your need to know before booking: Firstly 1: book direct not through an agent 2: upgrade to the full insurance 3: get the tolls tag. I was really scared to book from any of the agents/car hire companies as they all have such bad reviews. but here are the tricks to not get tricked!! Reason to book direct: You won't get the hard sell to sell extra insurance and will tell you that the 3rd party insurance is not valid (the couple next to me at pick up were being told this) their website is easy and clear. Reason for full insurance: No deposit, which takes 10 days to be refunded. They won't screw you over for 'fake' damage (which i read a lot on reviews). Tolls tag: You have to leave a €100 deposit for this but they refund you what you don't use, its accurate and not guesstimated so you won't be paying over the odds for tolls. note that the refund for the remaining amount is done after 10 days of returning the car. NOTE: They require a €80 deposit for petrol, if you return it full then they refund you on the return. The shuttle bus is big and easy i was lucky there was one just about to leave when i arrive, but allow some time as you might have to wait a little. For check in there was no queue but this was because my flight was cancelled and came at a time that there were no flights. I had a brand new Fiat 500 i think this was due to the fact i mentioned "i have seen your google reviews" haha it was easy to drive and clean. cost me €153,74 for the 3 days i was there. From my €185 deposit i was refunded 177,80 which means the tolls to and from Lagos from Faro are €7,20. I hope this helps someone.

It was the same with me and they didn’t return 100€ deposit. Car was returned without any damage. We even had full insurance coverage. They calculated the fuel cost of 50.40 euro before. When I took the car, it was half a tank of fuel. When I returned the car, I filled up three-quarters of the tank, but they still charges the fuel cost.I ordered a Peugeot 3008 or similar car on the Internet. Finally they gave me a Fiat 500L. Are these two cars the same grade?

I can not recommend these highly enough from picking us up to getting the key was hassle free the staff were great, they lost the key but it was found. They didn't try to sell me any extras I had no massive deposit I took out the full cover insurance and trust me it's fully covered... I had to pay €160 for a fuel deposit (standard practice anywhere In the world) and tolls their are a lot of toll roads in Portugal so I was happy this was one thing I didn't have to worry about... love this hire company highly recommended

We’ve booked a car from Centauro’s site for three days, here in Faro Portugal. We’ve landed on the AirPort at 17:30 on saturday. We step out to P4 Parking Area, where shuttle bus was waiting for passengers with reservation for car. So the bus dropped us at the Centauro’s Office. Picking up the car was super fast, the woman at the office was very kind to us. After we paid and sign up the documents, the clean car was already waiting for us, fully fueled. After three days we bring the car back, and check in was super fast too. The worker just checked the car if everything is ok and gave back the deposit (from ViaVerde 100€ and gasoline 87€) I’d love the fact that if u take SMART cover You do not pay deposit for the car. The office representative told me that extending a period of rent will cost more or less the same price. In reality - it was 3 times more expensive and I didn't have a choice but to pay this ridiculous price. The customer support was not helpful at all, sending me "terms and conditions" excuses all the time. Worse experience ever!

I use always use Cenrtauro both in Spain and Portugal for car rental I find the booking easy and straight forward. I do not understand any of the negative reviews that I have read. My last booking was at Faro, the staff were amazing and very helpful from being greeted at the courtesy bus by the very friendly driver to the reservation agent at the office. The staff could not be more helpful, they even changed the settings in the car to English for me. I arrived on a national holiday and the office was busy, however, I was only in the office for maybe 30 minutes. They took a fuel deposit which I expected and a deposit for the motorway toll in Portugal although I was driving into Spain. The return of the car was easy and the courtesy bus back to the terminal. My fuel deposit was returned to me quickly the motorway toll deposit was returned within 14 days as I was informed it would be. I always recommend this company and all of my family and friends use them.

This company are cheeky and rude the try to get you to buy stuff you don’t need The girl made a admin error and put the wrong date on the paperwork and when we returned the car on the day that we requested it for the told us we had to pay a extra €250 and when we tried to explain they were interested all they were interested in was the money!! Then they refused to take my partner in 2 young kids to the airport on the shuttle bus! This is all down to the girl making an error! No wonder the customer reviews are so bad stay clear Stay clear

Easy and fast pick up service with a yellow Centauro transit from P4 in Faro Airport. The car we had booked was in fact the same model as their website showed (which is not always the case with car rentals). We got a new Fiat 500 (with only 5.600 km on its Tacho) - in perfect shape and super clean. The check in and check out have been easy, fast, professional and informative by kind staff. We recommend this rental and would come again :) There's enough gas stations around the rental so you can easily fill up fuel before returning the car. Also the rental station is close to Faro and other cities and easily reachable. For anyone: take the highway tool for an additional 11€ - it's totally worth it if you travel via highway a lot to pay the fees in a comfortable manner.

I was skeptical about this place considering all the reviews I have seen but I have to say that we had a great experience. First and foremost, we chose them because they were one of the rare car dealers in Portugal that do not require a credit card. They are a bit dislocated from the airport/train station but you can always catch a taxi or go with the free shuttle they provide. The car that we got wasn't something fancy but it worked and we didn't have any problems at all. The employees at the office were all really nice and kind, we got our refund on time, and the pick-up and drop-off went smoothly.

Very professional. They stayed up until 3.a.m because of our flight delay. They upgrade the car and the staff was very nice. The car was brand new. Centauro Portugal are the best and the most kind and helpful. Thank for everything.

Very professional. Arrival in Faro we were clear were to wait for bus towards the rental office. Bus came within 10 minutes. Arriving at the office we were helped right away so we could be on our way. Delivering the car was same and we received our deposits and all that within 2 weeks

Just finished a weeks rental from the Faro office. Car is collected off airport and a courtesy minibus shuttles you to and fro. We waited max 10 minutes for the bus which wasn’t an issue. Very friendly staff, customer service was excellent, everything was explained in a straight forward manner and we were off before we knew it. Office is easy to find. Return was equally as good and efficient. Would recommend and use again….

Centauro was either the only or one of the very few car rentals that accept debit cards. We hired a car from Centauro Lisbon and returned it to Centauro Faro. Both offices were great and the stuff very helpful. We gave a big deposit up front, but we received the whole amount back after we returned the car. The car itself was just fine and we had no problems at all. It is worth noting that the person that runs the suttle bus waited for us to finish delivering the car back and took us to the airport.

First time here after many years with other rental firms. Very satisfied so far. Almost paperless services, friendly staff and quality car (with free upgrade). See you soon again👍🏻

The whole experience was great. Simple to make the reservation on the Web site, and the driver who collected us at the airport was very gentle and welcoming. the Girl who assisted us at the company was very pleasant and gave us a better car than the one we reserved. No problem with the return and no surprises with the bill. The deposit was refunded with no problem before the deadline. Really good experience.

I was hesitant to book when I saw the other reviews- but I had a great experience renting a car here. Airport pick up was efficient, the car was ready as soon as I got there. The car itself was fine, no issues. When I returned the car, they were quite prompt to inspect and signed off without issue. Customer service was great- everything was explained in detail on pick up and drop off. Money that was used for holds has now been returned as expected. Would recommend to anyone. (If you're travelling along the south coast during rush hour, highly recommend the toll device. It's fairly inexpensive itself, and the tolls aren't expensive either.)

We had an excellent experience from Centauro from the moment we were greeted by the shuttle bus. All the staff were extremely friendly and helpful and when we had an issue with the car mid way through our holiday, it was swapped without any problem in under 10 minutes. So thank you for wonderful service and a great car! Practical information - the rental office is about 10 minutes from the airport but the shuttle bus is easy to find and we didn’t have to wait long. It is situated next to a major highway so easy to then begin your journey.

I have to say I really enjoyed the experience. A friendly shuttle driver picks you up at the airport. The rental process was as efficient as it could be: in less than 3 minutes the paperwork was done. They friendly staff explained all the nasty details like deposits in a very clear and transparent way, never had such a good experience before. The car was in an excellent condition, the prices reasonable. I can highly recommend Centauro, will definitely book here again!

Picked up car at 2000 on a Friday evening and had no issues with transfer or rental pick up, all completed within 30 minutes of landing. Car itself had only 4k Kms on the clock and was spotless inside and out. Definitely recommend.

Very well attended. Very attentive personnel, detailed attention. They attend the phone quickly and sort out, offer explanation and gives answers. We are currently renting it them for 10 days. Excellent!

Flew from UK in August. Great service, from the nice, bright yellow and easy to spot mini bus, to the efficient service at both ends. Toll deposit returned promptly and other deposit straight away. Would definitely recommend.

We returned our car to Centauro Faro after a 16 day road trip starting from Centauro Porto with 0 issues. Overall a great, reliable company to hire from with a shuttle service to the airport included if required. Make sure you book direct via their website to avoid extra fees for insurances etc... which is always the case when you try to cut it cheap through third party sites.
