Wonderfully designed and a must visit for people of all ages. The museum has great exhibits, a toy train, beautiful open spaces. Bought back memories of younger days and the excitement around trains from past. Its India in a tiny nutshell and a place that will feel nostalgic of your younger days.

I couldn't give justice to my visit to this place due to paucity of time. It is located just close to railway station. This place will surely enrich your knowledge on Indian rail, its history, evolution of equipments etc Very well maintained. You can have fun learning here. There's also a toy train ride. Some really good spots to click pictures. I would like to give a detailed visit to this place in future.

I visited this place on a Saturday morning and there was no wait to enter the place. 1 toy train ride is included in the ticket price. 1. Parking - they have a parking space near to this museum 2. Entry - Rs.50/adult and Rs.20/ child. Only cash is accepted (Oct 2023) 3. Recommended Time - If you like to see through all the trains in detail, 1.5 to 2 hrs would be good enough. 4. What to see - History of rail transportation in India and World, old model train engines, ride in a toy train, watch tower(nothing much to see here) 5. Other facilities - restaurant and washroom facilities are available here 6. Souvenir shop is also available in the premises

India's second rail museum after the one in Delhi. Several beautiful exhibits from India and many photographs of unique railways, loops, junctions from around the world. The ticket counter at the entrance is made from a coach. Different from regular tourist spots and nice way to teach history to children who are not aware of such glorious past and the engines which were an engineering marvel at that time. If in Mysore, make sure to bring your children for a brush with history. Parents will also have brush with nostalgic feelings looking at dial phone etc. Bonus is looking at instruments that helped trains chugh safely in old days. There is a small park in the campus where you can board some old engines and coaches Several interesting piece of history which will take you back in time.

This Museum provides information about Railways and it's evolution from the olden days. The place is equally good for kids and adults, as kids can find the toy trains and other displays interesting, while adults can understand the history. The entrance from parking slot has an old but magnificent Cast Iron gate which was built in 1927. You can see some of the old machines like Ticket punching machine, Cash chest, ticket tube and a lot more. The most priced possession of this place is the Maharaani's Saloon used by Maharani of Mysore, - with special dining room, study room, bathroom etc, which is well maintained here. You can also enter the TV room where a lot of video information is available.

Mysore Railway Museum is a treasure trove for railway enthusiasts and curious minds alike, offering a fascinating journey through the evolution of India's rail transport. Nestled in the 'City of Palaces,' this museum is a delightful blend of history, technology, and nostalgia. The museum's outdoor exhibits showcase an impressive array of vintage locomotives, each narrating a chapter of India's railway heritage. From majestic steam engines that once powered the nation's rail network to intricately designed royal carriages that evoke a bygone era, the collection is a testament to the railway's integral role in shaping the country's development. Inside, a plethora of artifacts, models, and interactive displays engage visitors of all ages. The meticulously preserved artifacts include antique ticketing machines, signaling equipment, and personal memorabilia from the early days of rail travel. One of the museum's highlights is a joy train ride, offering visitors a charming tour around the premises. The miniature railway exhibits add an element of whimsy, attracting both children and adults. Mysore Railway Museum succeeds in not just preserving the railway's history but also in bringing it to life, making it a must-visit destination that celebrates India's locomotive legacy in an engaging and informative manner.

Nice place to learn about Indian Railways history and journey over the years. Very clean and nicely maintained museum. It's good visit in Mysore. Has a variety of well preserved rail coaches and locomotives dating as far back as the British Rule, in a landscaped garden setting. There are decommissioned trains, trains that were made for the kings, narrow, broad and meter gauge on display. Toy train ride is included in the entry ticket. Very nice place for a leisure evening. Good for kids. Tickets cost Rs 50 for an adult.

A world class rail museum in Mysore. While the artefacts could be a lot more, it has been built and maintained really well. Entrance fee: ₹50. It includes the toy train ride. There is a rail cafe as well which serves some snacks and coffee. Overall a great experience. The watchtower has no major view point to see. That was the only disappointment. Finally you can buy some good quality magnets from the souvenir shot at the museum.

A best place to visit in Mysore with family and kids. Can have a good entertainment for 2-3 hrs. Kids will enjoy much here for sure. Free parking available for bikes and cars at left side corner of museum. Fare are Rs.50 for adults and Rs.20 for kids. You can get a free ride inside, ride will be available in timings with the interval of 30 mins. Outside foods not allowed and there is a cafe inside the museum, you will get snacks coffees there with higher price. Overall a good weekend experience, but avoid weekends mostly, there might be a rush.

Interesting museum for the people who have fond memories of travelling by train. A lot of people bring their kids here to make them understand how mammoth and complex operations are handled by the Indian railways. It's not too big, much smaller than the one in Delhi, but they have a lot of steam engines and other bogies on display where you can freely go inside and experience it. The highlight for me was the Maharani saloon which was used by the Queen of Mysore. There's even a toy train for the kids. Cafe setup inside a bogie is also nice.

One of the biggest rail museums so far and very well maintained railway museum. It presents all history and legacy of Indian Railways. Very old railway engines are showcased. Entry fee is Rs 50, it includes a single rail trip around the museum in a small train. Also kids play area is there. There is a cafe inside rail boogie, it gives a unique dine-in experience. Overall this would be a perfect go to place for your family and friends.

It's a must-visit spot to visit with your kids if you're around Mysore. There are lots of still models of trains used in various eras. There's a toy train to roam around within the park. A small coffee shop is there. Have to pay a fee for parking your vehicle. The ticket charges are Rs. 50 per head. You can have a view from the watch tower accessible through a lift.

Excellent place to visit with kids. A complete journey is covered and we can explain to kids on how it was evolved. They do have sample track and train for most of the models and the place was maintained well. Limited food options. There is a Toy train also to try with. Overall we loved the place and recommend to go with kids.

This museum is a fun activity and need only 30mins max to cover very kids friendly and nice to spend time. Entrance ₹50 per person and included the small toy train ride. This museum is just 2mins walk from the Mysore junction so you can either do it on arrival or last day if you’re taking train to your destination.

Wonderful place, consists of lot of old engines with on their proper meter gauge lines. Even the designs on the trains with their meters and working were kept intact. Other than that I highly recommend the toy train ride which they give two rounds around the park. Won't recommend the watch tower because it has no view around it.

The Railway Museum at Mysore, India is an outdoor exhibit of vintage locomotives. The Railway Museum was established in 1979 by Indian Railways, the second such museum after the National Railway Museum in Delhi. The museum is opposite the Central Food Technology and Research Institute on Krishnaraja Sagar Road. It has locomotives and a gallery of photographs and paintings depicting the growth of railways in India. Railway signals and lights are also displayed. The museum has a battery-operated mini-train giving a short ride for children on the grounds.

The Mysore Railway Division just reopened the museum after renovation. There are many old generation Locomotives, Coaches and Rail equipments. It is well maintained and offers a very detailed information for rail geeks. Having a very well maintained garden and lawns, it can be a good weekend place to chill for families. Having a toy train and a cafeteria ensures that this place has something for all. Hoping that it stays like it in the coming days. Worth visiting if you're going to Mysore.

This place tugs very sweetly at one's heart. After a major upgrade, this rail museum is unlike any other in India. A fantastic effort by Indian railways. Major kudos is in order. This is an open air museum and although a bit small it is gorgeously well maintained. It has two small cafes, a small little toy train ride , a jungle gym for the kids to play as well and nicely maintained toilets. The place is also disable friendly and has some unique exhibits such as the queen's saloon. Even if you are not a fan of railways , this place will charm you over with its heart and the nature around. One absolute MUST SEE while in Mysuru. It is closed on Tuesdays and is open from 10 am to 530 pm all the other days.

Entry Rs. 50 per person. To my greatest surprise, this cute little neglected place has become a real gem now. They did a complete overhaul and designed this place professionally. As a result, tourists are pouring in this place now a days, specially on weekends. The toy train joy ride ticket is now included as standard in entry ticket price. The park is having all these old locomotives placed beautifully, making it a kids play ground and a photography spot. The park also features a RAIL COACH RESTAURANT.

Nice place to know more about Indian railways ... Everything well maintained and items of historical importance for display..... Not a big place but it is really well maintained..... Star attraction is the ‘Maharani Coach’ of the Mysore kingdom..... Other interesting artifacts are refurbished steam engines, the ones which used to ply on the Mysore rail network in the steam era.... Also has a rail cafe a snacks place inside a rail coach, which is a must try..... Nice to see some basic old era signaling systems, track sleepers, ticket systems and currency chests...... Very good place for spending couple of hours for elders and with kids you can even spend a little longer.... It could be part educational and part fun as most of the things can be seen up close. Even though 50Rs of entrance fee is charged it will be covered by offering toy train ride which will be quite fun..... Will definitely recommend when planning to visit Mysore .....

Must visit does not adequately describe the experience. It's a mix of nostalgia, information, entertainment, family bonding, pride for our Railways, engineering marvel, immersion in creativity and so much more. At merely Rs, 50, you get (probably the second best) a wholesome experience of the journey of Indian Railways, with a special focus on Mysore. Its historical importance is captured beautifully, the exhibits are well maintained, there is an audio tour in multiple languages, informative videos at the entrance . It closes by 5.30 so should be planned accordingly. Ample parking space and wide approach roads. There are eating options inside as well. A museum for people of all ages, and even for non-lovers of museums!

Depicting the rich history and the progress of the 150-year-old Indian Railways, the ‘Mysuru Rail Museum’ set up in 1979, which was closed for a while for renovations and refurbishment, was inaugurated again on April 2020. The newly-renovated museum has a lot of added attractions including the ‘Rail Coach Cafe and Cafeteria’; an old railway coach which has been remodelled into a restaurant-style seating area where visitors can purchase snacks, other food items and beverages. Another attraction, especially for kids is a model Railway Station at the museum entrance named ‘Central Park’ with a model ticketing counter. The kids will be allowed to ride in a battery operated Toy Train on a round trip from this ‘Central Park’ station. En route, they will be greeted by a ‘Toy Band’ created from scrap materials by the staff of Mysore Workshop, a tunnel, model railway crossing and railway signals. Each gallery has a touch-screen monitor with information about the collections there and the history of these collections at the museum.

The place explains the generation of today to understand how technology evolved over a period of time and reached where we are today. Preserving and demonstrating things to the next generation than scrapping the things is a great idea. My kids loved the joy ride of the train inside the museum and I felt the ticket price is really worth with this. There is a canteen in the Museum which is hosted in a rail bogie. When I visited this place the vendor of the canteen was heavily loaded with orders and there was good waiting time as I see there are limited options inside the museum.

It is a good place for kids to enjoy. We can spend 1 hour atleast as there is a play area for kids. We visited the Railway museum while waiting for our train from Mysore. The toilet facility is good and maintained fairly enough for a public place. There is a snack bar and a gift shop where we bought few channapatna toys. The Mysore Rail Museum is the second of its kind in India, right after the National Railways Museum of Delhi. Most of the exhibits were earlier placed at the Mysore Palace which was later shifted here. The first steam engine along with the first signals made is exhibited here. There are also wooden pillars and doors belonging to the Old Srirangapatna railway station. The other fascinating display here includes a wide range of lights, tickets, ticketing machines, clocks, signal signs, and a hand-operated the steam water pump. There is a battery-operated mini toy train that takes the tourists around the grounds of the museum.

I visited the rail museum many years ago and visited again for the first time after the renovation. And oh my what a transformation! I would recommend anybody out there to visit this place. As an engineer it was a technical marvel. For my toddler the lights, the train ride and the atmosphere was a delight. Old, young, locals and tourist would enjoy this place. Well maintained and worth the visit.

Just a few hundred meters away from the Mysore Railways Station Mysore Railway Museum is the fantastic place in Mysore and perhaps best thing happen to any city. Taking forward the legacy of Mysore, this Railway Museum is truly the best and worth place to visit and deserves to be yet another legacy of Heritage City Mysore. Some of the erstwhile beauties of Railways fleets that once ruled the Railway tracks ,the Railway Museum has all those beauties. The well-maintained, beautifully arranged and fantastically showcased, it has really brought the memory of Indian Railways golden era to life. Spending time here in this museum is indeed a memory.

A memorable place to visit with family and kids. The museum is beautifully maintained. There are tens of locomotives from multiple eras with their descriptions placed near them. There is a toy train ride through the tracks laid across the perimeter of the museum, which is a must try. Plenty of places to click pictures from.

Surprisingly a very well maintained museum. Very clean, lot of greenery and tons of interesting artefacts, like the engines, coaches and of course the Maharani’s saloon. Can easily spend around 2 hours there. Very close to the railway station. The store in the museum has a lot of good souvenirs too. Great place to learn the history of trains.

The Mysuru Railway Museum is one of the cleanest and most maintained museums I’ve ever been to. The place is fascinating for both kids and adults. The Museum has multiple Engines from era on display and very neatly explains the progression of Indian railways. Even the cafeteria is made inside a train bogey. There is an AV (Audio Visual) room to explain the way Indian Railways have evolved. There is toy train too that takes you through the premise and is definitely a fun ride.

I heard about this place when I was in Mysore one of my friends suggested this place to me. If you have a toddler, this is one of the best places they will enjoy a lot. The ticket price is 50 rupees. We went during a weekday so there was no rush at all. Once you enter the premises, you will get to see a lot of historical artefacts. There are sign boards near each train for more information. You will be able to climb a few of them to click good pictures. There is a complementary train ride for the 50 rupee ticket so make sure you keep your ticket safe. 2 rounds of train ride to show the premises. They also have a good cafe if you would like to get some refreshments. There is 1 souvenir shop near the exit in case you wish to purchase something to take back. You can spend 30-60 minutes at this location. Highly recommended for parents with toddlers.

The Mysore Rail Museum was set up in 1979. A big and well maintained rail museum. Multiple old railway engines are showcased here. The timing of the rail museum is 10 AM to 6 PM. The entry fee is 50 Rs and it also includes one small train trip around the museum. The museum is closed every Tuesday and national holidays. Upon entering the museum, the information centre/desk can be seen. The souvenir shop is also located within the museum premises. You can see the steam fire pump,  ground frames, walls painted with paintings, Meter gauge steam locomotive, Hand crane, Rail motor car, Indore art gallery, toy train, vintage steam fire engine , signal gallery, vintage waiting room, push trolley, etc. You can visit with your family and experience the beauty of this museum.

Renovation is really good One of the major attractions of the museum is the Chamundi Gallery, which has an extensive range of pictures and paintings on the railways and its growth on display. Sri Ranga Pavilion is another prominent part of this museum. It has two royal coaches on display. These grand coaches that belonged to the Maharaja of Mysore present a real picture of the luxury and grandeur with which the royals used to travel. Maharani's saloon carriage is also quite interesting to explore. However, it is really an informative place!

After a gap of five years or more I had an opportunity to visit Railway museum on KRS road this morning with few of my close friends.Foremost, I was dumbfold to see the entrance to look like a corporate office with a huge glow sign of Railway museum. To the right there is a vintage engine which can be seen from about 100 meters. As we step in we can see a nice desk with modern gadgets for dispensation of entry tickets. The other side there is a shop well designed for sale of key chains, replica of palace and wall plates made out of wood and metal. Further, there are vintage steam engines on track with good track record are stabled at prominent locations in a attractive manner which is simply awesome. There is a separate enclosure for a SALOON used by Queen's of erstwhile Wodeyar dynasty on MSR railways(called maharani saloon) is worth seeing. There is meter gauge crane to be operative in case of railway accidents.Apart from various other display, there are furniture made out of pure rosewood and teak which are of antique value. One can have light refreshments, hot and cool breveragesat affordable cost in a AC coach beautifully converted into a refreshment room with rich ambience.Specially for the children and elders there is a toy train which runs on a track laid around in the middle of the museum and pass through in a nicely made tunnel is an attraction. At the centre there is a tower with lift facility to have a glimpse of Mysore Railway station,Divisional office, st.philomena church, Chamundi Hill and the Lalit Mahal palace hotel. It is a very nice place to spend a minimum of two hours with family and friends. It is an opportunity for us to know more about Indian Railways, it's working and we can educate our children about Railways it's evolution, development and it's working. The entry fee is very reasonable and there is ample space for parking.I am interested to visit once again with family. Hats off to the authorities and men who have worked on this concept, project and execution of the work which is really appreciable.Thanks.

Visit to Rail museum was a visit to past and its sweet memories of my childhood. Standing beside an steam locomotives makes awesome. Oh ! What a gigantic machine invented in a era of Industrial revolution, We feel insignificant. Appreciation on the inventors will come your mind and how they revolutionised mobility. Museum is well kept and with lots of information about Rail. Firstly, my salute to Railways and more to Royals of Mysore who promoted Mysore State Railways in so early days for development. Children of my family enjoyed the visit to hilt.

World class museum covering all aspects of the Indian Railways. Must visit place for all age groups. Very reasonably priced tickets which also affords you a ride on the toy train make it very enjoyable for youngsters. The exhibits are very intresting and are an absolute treat for any visitor. Place is accessible for the differently abled (not all exhibits) and the museum has good facilities such as restrooms, cafeteria, souvenir shop etc. Parking facility is also available. Place is good for a visit of roughly 3 to 4 hours. Visitors can board most exhibits and can also enjoy the view atop the tower. Staff are friendly and the touch screens placed around the museum add greatly to the experience.

Other interesting artifacts are refurbished steam engines, the ones which used to ply on the Mysore rail network in the steam era. Also has a rail cafe a snacks place inside a rail coach. Nice to see some basic old era signaling systems, track sleepers, ticket systems and currency chests.

Cute little place in the city centre to spend and hour or two. Kids will love it, especially the toy train. Worth a visit for sure as only 2 such exhibits are present in India. Recently renovated and very well maintained. Highlights include the maharani’s saloon, the toy train ride (not just for kids) and the wonderful array of train carriages.

Awesome place to hangout, but do visit before 5.30 PM because that's the closing time, we were lucky we reached around 4.30 and could enjoy that one hour to the fullest. If you get time do checkout the video of railway. Its inside a room where you can sit and can listen to the history of railways, how it all started and how it was upgraded. And yes ofcourse you shouldn't miss the Toy Train, we had a great time, the ticket price is very less and you can enjoy 2 rounds in the toy train and can click some amazing pictures. Garden, the train engines, railway track everything is so perfectly placed and maintained. You will love this place at your first visit. Wheelchair is easily accessible there.
