Today i went again to this restaurant to have my lunch . Exactly at 1130 it was opened. Want to have a decent vegetarian food at Cathedral Road, Chennai at nominal price and ambience? Then your choice should be Vrindavan Restaurant. This Restaurant is part of the famous Woodlands Hotels located just at the entrance of Hotel. You get variety of tasty South Indian tiffin varieties like Idli, Dosa, vada, Poori, Oothappam, Pongal and a number Vegetarian meals like Business Lunch, South Indian Thali, North Indian Plate Meals and Maharaja Thali, which is a Special here, priced at Rs300. While most of the meals have South and North indian items, Maharaja Thali has in addition Soup, Tandoori roti, or naan or even Pooris. You can choose. But all we're soft and good. Naan was not like rubber! Special subjis, Ghee, Sambhar, Rasam, Veg Briyani, curd, Paneer Tikka, and fruit salad with ice cream. You get sufficient quantities of items which can be requested further like Rice. You get a welcome drink too which too good. It's very tasty. The walls are decorated with Paintings of Krishna and his life, the seating is good, the ambience is perfect and the rates are reasonable. The Baby Corn Bajji is famous here. While business lunch is Rs.238, normal South indian Thali is 257 and North Indian Thali is at Rs.276. You may like to visit the restaurant with family and friends again as its pocket friendly and calm and quiet too. Plenty of parking space is available inside the hotel and cards and digital payments are accepted. The staff are friendly and helpful. Quiet ambience and not noisy. Recommended to visit and have a delicious and sumptuous food!

Main course food are amazing. Roti and side dish are sooeprb. But never order dessert from this restaurant. They gave vanilla ice cream in the name of Falooda. Rose milk was not worth the money. But you can enjoy great main course dishes here. Highly recommend main course only in this restaurant.

Good multi cuisine vegetarian restaurant in the heart of the city. Prices have gone up in the recent days, still a bargain for quality and location. We went for North Indian items and ordered few tandoori breads along with palak paneer and veg jalfrezi. Though it took little longer than the usual, it was worth the wait. Nov 14, 2021 - Dinner at Vrindavan. We went early and the place empty, but quickly filled up as we were working thru our dinner. Great food as always. One thing that puzzles with them is their pricing, which is mostly in fractions... for example Coffee is 76.72 instead of simply 75 or 76 or 77 or just 80. Why is unique pricing? Does anyone know? Mar 5, 2022 Tried north indian items this time and they were equally good.

I took a lunch there and ordered South Indian Dish. It consisted of 3 Puri (mini), Dahi, 2 South Indian Sabzi (mix veg. & beetroot poriyal), Sambhar, Rice, Daal, Appam (Papad), Rasam, Raita, and Poricha Kulumbu. Out of everything, I loved Poricha Kulumbu. It was so so delicious. It is a must recommend for those who outsiders who visit here.

We visited here with family. In my opinion food is above average. Vrindavan special gravy is not too good. Paneer is little bit tougher/hard to chew. Roti and Naan are good but much oil/butter. Ordered soup and veg spring rolls as well, which are not bad. Gulab jamun is also average. Atmosphere is good and staff are really attentive. Overall the experience is above average.

Ordered North Indian, South Indian and Maharaja thali. North Indian thali and Maharaja thali wasn't so good. The sides were not so good. The tandoori roti which they gave was so hard. I personally didn't like the food much here, when compared to other places. A bit crowded on weekends. You'll have to give your name and wait for atleast half an hour.

Great fine dining vegetarian restaurant which has Udupi (Karnataka) style south Indian dishes and their cuisine ranges from South Indian to North Indian and also has numerous continental options as well. Their Bisibelabath, cheese corn Augustin are a must try! If you have an appetite for south Indian then their Mysore masala dosa, Onion rava, sambar vada, and rasa vada are delicious.

Chose this as parents old time favourite resto . Maharaj thali & South Indian thali was good filling , can be better in variety than this is my opinion . Paneer tikka as starter was good in maharaja thali & no butter for roti even on request was surprising .

A Very highly rated place and I walked in with high expectations. My litmus test : idli sambar. Simple dish but will it pack a flavour like ratna cafe or Sangeetha. Will it be something out of the world? I didn't know but I was confident that it would definitely be good. The place has the 90s decor that restaurants had with boxed out seating tables against the walls and posters decorated on the wall. but sadly didn't deliver on the food. The idli sambar I must say that, it was really disappointing by the usually very high chennai standards. I mean you would probably think it's impossible to screw up idli sambar in Tamil Nadu. But these guys managed to do that with a stiff idli and a sambar that wasn't flavourful at all. It was runny and bland. Paper dosa however was crunchy, but the masala and chutney definitely need to be bettered. Thumbs down.

I understand that when I reach so late in the evening, when it is almost closing hours for the restaurant, I cannot expect full energy and attentiveness from the staff there. However, food we ordered was served very fast. The food continues to be very good quality and a nice nostalgic taste of pure Tamil food! Prices are at the higher side though. One thing that still cannot pass my mind that, a modest drink that is glass of buttermilk costs ₹ 104 ........ can anyone believe it? and it was indeed a normal glass of buttermilk!!! I need to be extremely careful next time I suppose!

You will get some mid 80’s hotel feeling here. Always crowded in the weekends especially dinner time. Located in one of Chennai’s prime area. Multiple halls available for dine in with plenty of food options. The service is unprofessional. The co ordination between supervisors and delivery guys is pathetic. We are visiting this place for past 10 years. The same service guys are there with the same attitude and service. Despite of this service this hotel is always full. So people like us also used to them 😄

*Spoiling in the name of Thali* My recent visit was a huge disappointment. The attitude of the staff was terrible, they seemed disinterested and were outright rude. The service was incredibly slow, and when the food finally arrived, it was cold and tasted like it had been reheated multiple times. The quality of the food has definitely declined. The dishes that used to be their specialties now lack flavor and are just not up to mark. It’s such a shame to see a place that was once good now fall so far. I will not be returning and would not recommend this restaurant to anyone. Such a disappointing experience.

I visited this place for lunch after many years. It was amazing food at reasonable prices. The South Thali was excellent with the best dish being the sambar. The ala carte menu is also quite extensive. Apart from the Thali we had ordered the Veg Augratin, Crispy Potato with Hot Garlic Sauce, Schezwan Noodles. All items were tasty. If you're in and around the Chennai Alwarpet area this place is definitely worth a visit!!!

My favourite place for quick lunch.... Just walk in anytime for lunch and you will get it all. Try their South or North meals. Its famous for its meals.

  • 4/5 Gurumoorthy R. 2 years ago on Google
The food was excellent, ambience is good. But the rates are high, a water bottle was charged 41 rupees. This is too bad for such a traditional woodlands hotel. How can they charge double the rate,. When actual MRP is just Rs.20.

Don't even try North Indian food. It's so unevenly cooked every gravy tastes like kuruma irrespective of the product and pricing. If you still wish to opt for this place for lunch/dinner - Try only for South Indian food and leave. Not even deserts are good enough to be qualified being at this stage where many players are way beyond serving a better customer preferred experience.

This was a recommendation to us during our short stay in Chennai. We were looking for pure veg + Jain food and this was on point. We had Bhindi, yellow dal, rice and roti and everything tasted really good. Service was fast. Ambience was good. Location is readily accessible.

Food is good. Had the Maharaja thali. Went with a group of 10 people and the waiting time was very long. Service was also not upto the mark possibly due to the weekend rush. Will be a much better experience on weekdays with lesser crowds.

Loved this restaurant because they are serving a lot of veg varieties along with desserts. We have maharaja thali which includes a lot of beg dishes which is of 80% i wont eat but value for money. Service was top notch and value for money as well. The best interiors with a cool atmosphere. This one is situated inside the woodlands hotel and its a group of hotels to be chosen.

A great Vegetarian joint in Chennai. Enough parking. Hygienic, traditional. Must go eatery. But doesn't come cheap. Went on a working day. I'm sure, Weekends will be too crowded. Bso reach by 7:30 PM. Good place for a family outing - especially if you are a vegetarian.

As always Woodlands Vrindavan is delightful. Food is mildly spiced and with less oil very ideally suited to even old & young alike. The ambience & car park facility is very good. A bit pricey for middle class people. Not very spacious & the crowd density is very high. They could do well to construct a couple of floors above and help decongest. A very traditional, friendly and a typical vegetarian restaurant in Chennai.

For those of us who enjoy the classical Indian restaurant experience with darkened dining rooms, great aromas and air conditioned scents, and quick but quality service, this is an absolute nostalgic and beautiful throwback to those lovely places from the '80s and 90s that we grew up on. Fantastic. PS The filter coffee is wonderful here.

Been eating here for over 35 years with my father too. The murals inside are completely breathtaking. The food is absolutely authentic and over the years the standard has not changed. Absolutely glad it still is holding up. Anyone for veg meals in Chennai must come here.

Recently had the unfortunate opportunity to dine at this restaurant, and I must say, it was one of the most disappointing experiences I've had in terms of South Indian cuisine. Despite the hefty price tag, the quality, quantity and taste of the food is poor. Food is subpar, nothing to call as south Indian meals. If someone doesn't know how to wase their money, you can buy a meals here !!!! They serve you the food that someone cancelled Save your money and explore better restaurant

Food wasn't great to be honest. Firstly, half the menu wasn't available, and the soups and starters were all very spicy. The dosa was bland, the sambar terrible, the chutneys passable, and we left to have a dessert at an exclusive dessert place like a normal self-respecting foodie.
