the
Markaz
(Centre)
for
Shias
all
over Tamil
Nadu
and is
situated
at
the
Anna
Salai
Road
which
is
in
the
Heart
of
the
City.
Thousand
Lights
Mosque
in
Chennai
derived
its
name
from
the
lighting
of
about
Thousand
oil
lamps
.The
Masjid
is
a
well-known
worship
place
for
the
Muslims
in
the
Chennai
city
of
Tamil
Nadu.
The
mosque
is
popular
for
a
number
of
reasons,
such
as
its
name,
its
architecture
and
its
historical
and
religious
importance.
Built
in 1820.
The
Chief
Shia
Khazi
of Tamil
Nadu
Government
is
Ghulam
Mohammed
Mehdi
Khan
Saahib
Qibla
and
his
office
is
at
the
same
place.
The
10th
Muharram
Aashura
procession
and
20th
Safar
Arbayeen
procession
which
starts
from
Royapettah
ends
here
at
Thousand
Lights
Mosque.
Apart
from
these
two
processions
any
major
event
related
to
our
Shia
Muslim
Community
is
held
here.
