The great banyan is not there, only you will see the children's of the banyan tree. You will see the cannonball tree in middle of this trekking. Nearly 1.5 km walk inside this. Nice place to spend with the family, there is no entry fee. Opening timing 8.30 to 10.00 and 2.00 to 4.00. First five minutes of trekking you will be see the entrance with the statue and arch, after you take photography move on to the left side, in this side you will be able to see the old building made up by the formers and uniqueness of the place will be clearly identified. And then move on to the library. The church will be appear on the left side with under construction, it is the very old church recreation progress are done. And go straight you will the pond with full of lotus flowers inside this in the back of the pond you will be see the old chettinadu house with full surrounded by it nature. And move on to the next place it is the open theatre will be seen right of the side where the drama and cultural takes places in the evening and and to long walk you will hear the group of bat's sound in the tree and then you will the different types of trees with the name board in it. And the coconut yard is seen, after you cross the library you will see the zorastrian temple with unique structure and finally you will be reached the the great banyan tree❤️❤️✌️

A beautiful nature place near Adayar river. This tree is inside Theoscipcal society. Now outsiders are not allowed inside. The Banyan tree is above 450 years old. Main tree was little damaged during 1989 cyclone. However many parts of tree is very well maintained. The tree spread over area is above 60000 sq. ft. Here many VIPs are coming for morning walk. The park is having huge area. Many trees 🎄 🌴 are there.

Visiting hours 2 to 4 in the afternoon and I chose this time a Saturday. Very nice place for family to spend. Pleasent experience. Two hours walk with trees, insects, birds, flowers. Should go with cap or umbrella as some areas are not covered with trees.

It was a wonderful place to disconnect ourselves from the crowded city. But, unfortunately it is permenantly closed. I went there several times with my girlfriend but that was three years back and the trees and butterflies made my visits really memorable. Sorry for those who's unable to visit now.

The nearly 400-year-old mother tree died a long time ago, and the tree has been surviving on its many branch roots ever since. No longer are visitors permitted; the site has been permanently closed.

The Great Banyan tree located at Theosophical Society, Adyar, Chennai is one of the biggest in the world. Said to be 450 years old, the tree and its off shoots (vizhuthu in Tamil) occupy a staggering area of 40000 square feet! The whole area is very serene and you feel as if the tree teaches you a lesson or two. It reminded me of a joint family tradition and and a sense of happy together villagers! You can park the vehicle at the entrance, take a walk towards the tree, enjoying the beautiful nature, inhaling excellent oxygen and listening to birds chirping too. You will simply love the giant tree and its off shoots. And the Nature's big inviting arms! The admission is free. Entry is on all days except Saturdays and Sundays from 9 a.m till 5 p.m. with a break at 1 p.m. till 2 p.m. Take your family, particularly Children and show them the giant tree. Don't forget to show them the seed, which is so small but yet has given such a big tree.

It is a fanta-fabu-excel place on Chennai for nature lovers. While the trees and woods add to the background screen shot, the buzzing bees create the surreal sound effect, the smells of the flowers add the magic potion- the crown jewel would be the dazzle of sun rays piercing the trees with the Yellow Gold and Silver hues and sometimes Orange to make you feel on top of the world. A morning walk is a privilege and yours truly loves every bit of the time invested.

The Adyar Banyan tree inside the Theosophical society Chennai TN, is one of those places where we humans can experience the feeling of anonymity in Nature. How small our true role is in the magnitude of nature. I just stood there quietly hugging and feeling sisterhood for this wise old tree...Everytime it is the same feeling...Words are in adequate...Be Kind Be Gentle to one and all in this world. Despite there being no reason to do so...

Best place to go with friends specially if you want a change in atmosphere from the malls you visit on weekends. Atmosphere is cool since it is full of trees and thus an escape from Chennai temperature. It's a nice experience to walk around and see the area with your friends. In addition to the shades and trees there will be temples, churches inside the area. There will be some restrictions to enter the area sometimes, but you can talk to the authority and get permission.

Still it is closed. The Security informed that it was closed from covid. As all the public places have already opened, the authority concerned should take effective action to open this Historical important place for the Public.

It's a nice place to visit for those who likes to explore serene places with some historical context. Though it's just like a lush green park, still standing there and gazing 450 years old Banyan Tree is pretty cool. People have to be very careful about opening and closing timings ( Monday to Saturday Morning 8:30 to 10:00 am, afternoon 2:00 to 4:00pm; Sunday closed). One Very important thing is that security here does not allow couple entry. So guys and girls going in group has to plan ahead and go. So you don't end up having argument at security gates. This was my first experience of moral policing in India but since this was on a private property we couldn't do much. This was the only bitter experience. Hope this will improve when people come to their senses.

Beautiful place , green and serene. I just wish the visitors would stop stomping in the grass and desecrating the trees. It's an ancient entity , not your swing that you can use to showoff for your lover.

This place is so cool and calm. You can enjoy such a huge moments over there. You can see different types of trees and all the trees are maintained very neatly. Especially the banyan tree part, The main tree has been lost before 1990 and from that time to till now.

The tree isn't standing here unfortunately still a beautiful society to stroll around with some traditional architecture houses, Buddha temple and a church, a Sikh temple and a lot more to explore and relax. If you enjoy being in nature all alone. This is a awesome place.
