Beautiful and serene place located along the Urban noisy road and dusty air. Entry is free! But when you are in the place you don't feel that it is located in a busy area, the environment is very clean and very well maintained. It is a graveyard of first and second world war civilians. The person who maintains the place is very friendly!!

Visited this memorial last year with my brother. We are from NZ. We came to see our grandfather's name on the war memorial stone. The people there were very helpful. None of my family have been to it since Dad and Nana left India. Dad was an only child his father never lived to see him born. It was an honour to stand in such a peaceful place and reflect.

One greenish and serene location amidst of Urban noise and dusty air. It will be really very calm that you would start feeling the silence. It is actually a memorial built for those who spared their blood in World War. If you just stay for a few minutes and stare at the cemetery, it would drag you to a some parts of history. Every stone there has a life and story behind it. It is very well maintained. The garden is exquisitely maintained well.

Madras Memorial of the First World War, is situated at the rear of the cemetery. The memorial is styled on the lines of a "Lawn Cemetery". The memorial does not contain any buried dead-bodies, but has plaques with the names of many British soldiers who died in both the World Wars, with the inscription "Their name liveth for evermore". It bears the names of more than 1,039 servicemen who died during the First World War and lie in many civil and cantonment cemeteries in various parts of India where it is not possible to maintain their graves in perpetuity.

You can go there Nd sit for a long time and not notice the traffic noises! Definitely quite a wonderful place and must visit on any low days you have. Just get in there sit and it will soothe you!

This place is of great importance as it contains the cemeteries of warriors who laid their precious life during world War 2. It holds close to 850 burials. The view provided by this place is so good that it serves as a photoshoot place. Please enquire the security people before you take pictures so that you will not have any hassle while taking pictures. The exact location of this place is nandambakkam which is close to the DLF IT park and Chennai Airport.

Built in memoriam of the men and women who lost their lives fighting in World War II, the Madras War Cemetery is home to almost 900 commonwealth burials with people from Great Britain, Canada, Australia, Africa and India. This garden to history, though somber, is also beautiful and peaceful. The cemetery is a restricted area and will require permission to visit. Madras War Cemetery is a war cemetery and a memorial in Nandambakkam, Chennai (Madras), Tamil Nadu, India, created to receive Second World Wargraves from many civil and cantonment cemeteries in the south and east of India where their permanent maintenance could not be assured.

The Madras War Cemetery, right in the heart of the city of Chennai, is a recognition of the glory as well as horrors of the war our ancestors have fought to make this world a more peaceful place. In short, it houses the last remains of around 855 martyrs who laid down their precious lives at the battlefronts in the devastating Second World War and also a Memorial stone for 1000 more who died fighting in the Great War before that. In 1952, the Commonwealth War Graves Commission and the Indian Government together established this cemetery to commemorate those who died to save our lives. Among the tombstones, there are three non-World War martyrs and a small memorial for a sea merchant as well. It must be remembered that the headstones are not only of soldiers who fought but of doctors, nurses and other support staffs as well. Top class maintenance by the authorities has kept the cemetery in great shape. Even though it has its roots in a sad and bloody past, the cemetery lawn feels like a serene and peaceful place for the dead to rest. It hosts the Armistice Day homage every year on November 11 with wreath offerings and Guard of Honours. Anybody interested in war-time history or wants to pay their respect to the martyrs should visit the Madras War Cemetery. It is not only a remembrance but a tangible proof of the cost of war.

Beautifully maintained ground. The grass well trimmed, hardly any weeds, beautiful flowers. Not a single piece of trash can be seen on the grounds. With Chennai dry and hardly any grass, this is a total contrast. It is not a huge area though. You probably can cover the whole area within 1/2 hour or so. If you are travelling a long distance just to visit this site, you may be disappointed.

Madras War Cemetry is a haven of peace amidst the frenetic pace of city life that passes by. It is close to Miot Hospital and is easily accessible by City Bus, Share Auto, Call Taxi, and other modes of transportation. The All-Pervasive Calm & Quiet enveloping rows & rows of hundreds of tombstones of the Brave Fallen in World War II & other Battles of the British Indian Army provides a Serene setting for the All-Pervasive Calm & Quiet enveloping rows & rows of hundreds of tombstones of the Brave Fallen in World War II & other Battles of the British Indian Army. The names of British Indian Army troops who died in World War I are plainly recorded on a long, low sombre wall. Here, Christians, Muslims, and others are honoured. A visit to this War Cemetery is extremely uplifting to the mind, soul, and heart. This eerily silent, timeless, exquisite memorial to the brave dead serves as a powerful reminder that we are here today because a sea of men before us chose to die in their prime. God's blessings.

This Commonwealth War Graves Cemetery epitomizes the Global sacrifice made to fight the tyranny of WWll, in SEAC. Resting within the walls of this cemetery, are young men from all corners of the world, who answered the call of Humanity. I can only imagine the desperate sorrow of their mothers who never got to hold their dying sons. I, (an ex-RAF Regt), was proud to visit this oasis with my two sons, to pay my Respects, and share with them my thoughts and hope, that Good will always overcome Evil. “They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old: Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning……We will remember them”.

Iconic Landmark of Nandambakkam Mount - Poonamallee Road Strip, Madras War Cemetery was established in 1952 in an area of 3 acres, MWC was Designed in Lawn Cemetery Concept. Very Beautifully Landscaped, well Maintained by Commonwealth War Graves Commission ( CWGC ). This Serene, Calm and Peaceful place is unique and sentimental, MWC has a beautiful Lawn and Garden, but MWC is Nourished with a Substance, that is Sacrifice and Patriotism. MWC Inspires every India, when one glance the Cemetery while passing the noble Premise, Servicemen's Sacrifice will glitter in their though and mind-screen. This is an Elegant Place for Photo Shoot and Selfie shoots, i humbly request the photo shooters to remain silent and responsible while photo shoot, teens should respect the Decorum and Emotions Behind the MWC. Parents should convey the Facts and History behind this MWC to their Kids,so that, they can know the Prime Sacrifice of the Servicemen.
