One of the old temple in chennai bussiest area. Lord kandhaswamy (murgan) along with valli and devanai is main deity and he is divine and powerful. A big pond is in the temple. This pond never get dried even during the water scarcity period in chennai, lot of fishes you can see in the pond. Very ancient & powerful temple. Here many saints like Kumarakuruparar are worshipped for Lord Muruga. Vallalar worship daily during his young life. Parking is the biggest problem here. Better you can catch auto from either cental and highcourt metro station. In and around lot of traditional tamil herbal products are available also lot of utensils shops are available.

This temple is built in 17th century. This moolavar is small statue get from Puthhu (white ant hill). After some time temple authorities given Murugan statue order to sthapathy. On process the statue is preferred from die, the statue have some extra metals on body. The sthapathy touched that he got shock. So temple authorities kept seperatel (put screen) for two years. One famous vedic scholar after known this fact, he came to this place and sing vedas. During that time the extra metals fall without anybody touching. The swamy Ramalinga adigal, Chidambara Swamy, Bamban Swamy are main devotees of this Murugan. People can visit other 8 temples near this temple (around 2 km). That are Kalikambal Kamadeswarer Temple Sri Kachaleeshwarer Temple (Parrys aghraharm st) Srimallikeshwarer Temple (mannadi lingi chetty st) Sri Venugopala Krishnan Temple (Pavalakara st) Sri Kalathesswarer Temple (Chennai Vayu sthalam) - (Pavalakara st) Arunachaleswarer Temple (Chennai Agni sthalam) - (Anna pillai st) Sri Ekambreshwarer Temple (Chennai Earth sthalam) - (Mint st) Chenna Mallishwarer and Chenna Kesav Perumal Temple (Chennai city named because of this temple) - mannadi (both temple are interconnected)

Beautiful ancient Lord Murugan temple. Temple was open until 12:10pm on a weekday (Friday). Been here countless no.of times when in my childhood days. Lord Murugan idol is small and very beautiful 🤩 😇. Car parking and two wheeler parking is not possible. Try to park car/bike near Ethirajulu Naidu. You can spend 30 minutes here and take rest sitting near the temple pond 😍. Highly recommended if you are in Chennai or visiting Chennai. #IndiaTrip #Chennai

Very old temple at the busiest location of the broadway bazaar. street is small and over crowded. no parking available. don't try to come by bike or car. you can come by local train, get down by Fort station. from there it is around a km, you can walk. small koil only. Priest not good, they're showing aarthi for the people who paid for archana. otherwise nice temple to get darshan of lord Murugar. looks to be a historical temple, worth to visit

The Kandakottam Murugan Temple, nestled in the bustling area of Parrys in Chennai, stands as an emblem of devotion and heritage. Dedicated to Lord Murugan, the temple holds a special place in the hearts of devotees who flock here seeking blessings, solace, and divine intervention. What distinguishes this sacred place is not just its religious significance but also its historical importance. Believed to have a history dating back centuries, the temple showcases a blend of traditional Dravidian architecture and intricate craftsmanship. Its awe-inspiring gopuram (tower) adorned with vibrant sculptures and intricate carvings captivates visitors, offering a glimpse into ancient craftsmanship and artistry. Throughout the year, the temple resonates with the sound of hymns and prayers, enveloping devotees in an aura of spirituality. Festivals like Thaipusam and Skanda Sashti are celebrated with great fervor, drawing devotees from far and wide to participate in the vibrant processions and rituals, adding to the temple's cultural significance. The sanctum sanctorum houses the idol of Lord Murugan, depicted with intricate details and divine elegance, exuding an aura of serenity and power. Devotees come seeking the deity's blessings for success, courage, and fulfillment in various aspects of life. Beyond its religious significance, the temple serves as a cultural hub, fostering a sense of community and togetherness among its visitors. It stands as a testament to Chennai's cultural richness and spiritual heritage, attracting both locals and tourists alike to experience its divine aura and architectural grandeur.

Wonderful place, must visit to see the sacrifices of martyrs . It is located to the south of Fort St. George and marks the beginning of the 13-km-long Marina beach . Memorial for Martyrs those who laid down their lives in the World War I and WWII and Kargil wars. . The tall flag hoisted there brings you goosebumps for sure, very protected place and We can see army guards on each security point. . I saw martyrs family members visit on their birthdays or special occasions and could see flowers on the memorial . Each Inscriptions has a list of martyrs died in that war . Each side of the stupa has Tamil, Telugu Urudu and English written on it

it's a Murugan temple, right in the middle of the business place of Chennai- Parry's. we went yesterday , a special day for the Murugan god- kandhar Sasthi. The crowd was too much, and we bought two tickets costing 250 Rs each. Later, only we came to realize, the ticket was not for special darshan, it was for prasdam. so next time you visit, pl check on this. There is no place for car parking also. mobile phones are allowed inside, so no worries on this

Thiru arutprakasa vallalar aka Ramalinga adigal used to come to this temple. Attracted by his divine glow the priest asked him to sing songs on lord muruga the main deity of the temple. Those songs are still famous.. Old temple... Area is congested.. Heavy vehicles can not go through the street

A famous Murugan temple of Chennai. Lord is very small and cute. The urchavar idol is known as Muthukumaraswamy, he looks so beautiful. It is very auspicious to visit the temple on Tuesdays and Shashi vratham days. The annual Skanda sashti festival is celebrated with great enthusiasm.

You can also believe Lord Muruga at Kandhakottam, near George Town, Chennai-3. I think it is a best opportunity to tell everybody.

The temple's name is derived from the Tamil words “Kandha” meaning Lord Murugan, and “Kottam” meaning fort The temple was built by the Chola king Karikalan, who ruled the region in the 1st century AD. The temple’s name is derived from the Tamil words “Kandha” meaning Lord Murugan, and “Kottam” meaning fort, as the temple was believed to be a protective fort for the surrounding areas. Over the years, Kandhakottam Temple has undergone several renovations and restorations, with the most significant one being carried out during the 16th century under the patronage of the Vijayanagara Empire. The travel facility is so easy to the area No separate parkings are available for this place and mostly crowded. Best place to find peace, the main god is lord murugan the lord of war.

Lord Murugan Temple at the center of Chennai City. Built around 400 years ago. Big temple with a beautiful tank inside the temple. Saint Vallalar Swamigal spent a lot of time here during 19th century and Lord Murugan gave utmost spiritual knowledge to him at the childhood. Situated in the business hub the roads are congested and no parking place. Have to park somewhere near and walk to reach temple.

It is a Murugan temple located alongside the coromandel coast in George town, widely known as Broadway ,the downtown of Chennai city in other words. It can be reached from across all parts of the coastal city as Broadway serves as heart of Chennai. Local trains, metro trains and the popular MTC is serving to and fro services are available from almost all bus terminals . It is serving some relations with Thiruporur Murugan temple as well according to sayings and descriptions. It is just a walkable distance from Broadway bus terminal. Nearest Railway Station and Metro is Chennai beach and Broadway Metro Station respectively. Buses which are stating broadway will get us there.

No words to describe the internal calmness and fresh mind, every time I visit. Nothing to quantify the divine blessing of Lord Murugan after his dharshan. Rs.100 que is always quick to have the dharshan, more over nearer to the sannidhi.

History of the Temple Sri Muthukumaraswamy Devasthanam popularly known as Kandaswamy temple or KandaKottam is one of the celebrated temple in Chennai City. It is just a furlong and half from the Madras Central Railway Station. The very foundation of the temple has a mystic and divine background. Sri Kandaswamy Temple, situated on Nyniappa Street in Rattan Bazar, Park Town, plays a significant role in the "Shiva and Amman Temples Visit" in the Park Town and George Town areas. These neighborhoods are home to a multitude of Shiva and Amman temples, some with a rich history spanning five centuries. The benevolent contributions of donors, including land, properties, and financial support, have ensured the continuous performance of daily rituals and worship in these sacred spaces. A prominent figure in the temple's history is Ramalinga Adigalar, also known as Vallalar, who celebrated Murugan of this temple in his hymns recorded in Thiru Arutpa. He lovingly referred to this temple as "Kandhakottam." The temple boasts several notable features: - It is oriented to the north and features a majestic 5-tier Rajagopuram. - Within the square sanctum, one can find a pantheon of deities, including Vinayagar, Veerabhagu, Urchavar, Urchava murti, Valli Devasena, Sri Subramaniar, Kasi Viswanathar, Visalakshi, Shiva, Parvathi, and Arumugam. - The primary deity, Moolavar, and their consorts have dedicated sannidhis. - The Utsavar is housed in a temple-like sannidhi, complete with Dwajasthambam and balipeedam. - The inner praharam is adorned with deities like Murugan, Kukkudanathar, Mahalakshmi, 63var, and Chandikeswarar. - The outer prakaram showcases sannidhis for Chidambara Swamigal, Dhandapani Swamigal, Kumaraguru Dasa Swamigal, Ramalinga Swamigal, Dwajasthambam, Arunagirinathar, Urchavar mandapam, Vinayagar, Kasi Viswanathar, Visalakshi, and Kalvettukkal, among others. From an architectural perspective, the sanctum sanctorum and mandapam are crafted from stone, extending up to the prastaram. A pada bandha adhistanam and three patta kumudam on upanam with padma jagathy add to the temple's charm. The Kostas follow a sala-style design, and the stone jalas are intricately detailed. Stucco images of Arupadai Veedu Murugan adorn the prahara walls, adding to the temple's visual appeal. The temple's history traces back to the 17th century, with Velur Marichetty credited with its construction. An inscription from 1912, found on a shop wall in Mint Street, documents the endowment of Midday Pooja, Karthigai Somavaram, and Deepam functions by T Raghava Prasad Lala's wife, Kuppammal. As a gesture of devotion, she gifted a house with land in Chenna Pattinam Peddanaickenpet, Subramania Mudaliar Street, for the temple's benefit. The temple is presently overseen by elected trustees from the Beri Chettiar Community, and a momentous Maha Kumbhabhishekam took place on July 2, 2016.
