Yesterday being Tuesday from Adyar via airport road drove to Anna Nagar Balamurugan temple. A 70 year old temple located near 18th main road inside a small lane. A huge tree covers the temple so identifying the exact location is a bit tough. A medium size praharam welcomed me. First on the left is Raja Ganapathy followed by Sri Balamurugan. Inbetween is located Medha Dakshinamoorthy. Rounding the praharam you spot Naga Kanni at the end followed by Sri Dakshinamoorthy, Sri Dhanvantri Narayanar, Sri Narthana pillaiyar, Navagrahas with their consorts and Sri Sudharsanar. Sri Vedavalli Amman and Sri Bhairavar with His consort Bhairavi is seen. The priest said not much history about this temple is known, but was built and today is flocked by devotees. Sashti and Soorasamharam are very grandly celebrated. Yesterday Lord Muruga Alankaram is Ravana vahana Sri Veena Balamurugar.

This temple is a colony temple recently taken over by H.R&C.E. it is near the Anna Nagar Railway Station which is easily reachable from Annanagar West Depot or from Nadamuni bus stop. The presiding deity is BalaMurugan and there are sannidhis of Lakshmi Narayan, Vinayagar, Iyyappan, Visvanathar and Visalakshi. Apart from these there are Vallalar and Shirdi Saibaba statues. Panchamuga Anjaneyar , one can rarely see and you can have a dharsan and Lakshmi Hayagrivar and Dhanvantri, Chakarath Alwar have seperate sannadhis. Many festivals are conducted in this temple and people throng during Vaigunda Ekadhasi and soora Samharam. During Pradhosam also there will be large crowd. Also there is a hall with auditorium for conducting functions.

Parking might be an issue. You just need to leave your bike or car on the roads. But the roads are not busy. Lord Murugan temple. There is also Hanuman god.

Beautiful old temple that will be different from what a usual Murugan temple will be. Has almost all deities and the place has a good silence about it.

This temple is very powerful and well maintained by two families. One is Shri.Iyappan and Arul Sivachariyars and other is Satish Bhattachariyar family. Temple had featured many at times in Sakara TV for Pradosham. There used to be crowded scenarios for Sai bhaians on Thursdays but after covid, temple is not attracting crowd.
