This temple is one of the famous and powerful Sakthi Sthalas in Mylapore. The Goddess Mundagakanni Amman doesn't have a human form but resembles a lotus bud and is a swayambu, meaning the statue was found while digging the soil there. The main sanctum is similar to a hut with thatched walls. It is said that though they have tried constructing a permanent roof many times, it doesn't stay but falls off. Devotees believe that the theertham, neem leaves and turmeric given as prasadam helps cure ailments.

Temple 🛕 in Mylapore 👀 with powerful sakthi

  • 4/5 Surega A. 9 months ago on Google
Historically the name of this deity is MUKKANNI AMMAN", a beautiful name with spiritual meaning. But we have to be ashamed that the current name brings many sarcasm from atheists and non Hindus. Government should make arrangements to change the name officially.

It is very famous temple in mylapore, the main deity was Mundakakanneeamman, seems to be most powerful. Sincere prayers offered will be answered for sure, temple is well maintained and clean, approach road are not that well maintained. Inside the temple, one can feel divinity.

I am sure when you visit the temple you will be showered by the Divine grace of Goddess Mundakakani Amman, one of the powerful deity lives with simple kurai structure, as preferred by her. The Decorated Amman in unjal will be bliss full to see. The manjal prasadam & tirtam offered is very powerful. so pls carry a tiny bottle. The temple road is congested so avoid four wheelers, 2 wheeler or auto is ideal, one can use metro train services which hardly 500mts from the temple !

Moolavar is swayambu like a lotus bud, who came from a pushkarani. The sanctum is only a thatched roof.

Shri Mundaka Kanniamman temple in Mylapore is about 500 m north of Shri Kapaleeswarar temple. Small suyambu lotus (mundakam) shapped Amman in the sanctum. Considered as one of saptha kannis. Narrow approach roads to temple.

Small temple for the Merciful as well as Fierce Goddess. Residing in a crowded, residential street of Mylapore, SHE showers her blessings to the devotees. Take some fresh, fragrant flowers for her. She likes them. She has given space to the "saptha kannigai" (seven Spinster Angels) in her small abode. Parking space is difficult to find even in nearby streets.

Powerful Amman temple. Crowded on Fridays and vishesham days but not much on regular days. Street parking in front of temple and little difficult to commute by car since no car parking and difficult to offboard or onboard as it's a pretty busy road

Ancient Hindu temple for Swayampu Devi. The Squamous was obtained in a Lake full of Lotus. Eyes resembles Lotus (Mundagam) & hence was named as mundaga-kanni-Amman. She cures all ailments of her Devotees and bless them Healthy and Long life.

One of the oldest temples in mylapore area! Must visit if you are here to visit Kapali. Walkable from Kapali temple, probably less than 250m. Nearly all inhabitants of mylapore who are spiritual are known to visit this temple to ward of evil and to keep disease away. It's more special to visit during the Tamil month of Aadi as it's an Amman temple...Hit thumbsup if this was helpful
