It’s truly a hidden gem on Devaraja Murali street. We went in a weekend afternoon around 4:30pm. The temple opens at 5pm. It was a peaceful darshan. The poojaris are so sincere. The temple has an amazing history. It over 300 years existing in this location. It was originally near the beach and had existed several hundreds years before when Britishers threatened to demolish temple. So the temple authorities and the patrons moved it to the present location and built this temple. The name Chennai came from this temple. There is also a Chenna Malleshwarar Shiva temple next to it. In fact, they are interconnected. Really wish the temple authorities erect a nice board outside & a direction board in the opposite street for people to find this gem of a place. Please support local Hindu temples. #savehindutemples

Sri Chenna Kesava Perumal Temple is at Georgetown right at the center of Chennai. The consort is Sri Senkamalavalli Thayar. Big and calm temple built around 400 years back This temple and Chenna Malleeswarar Temple are built just adjacent to each other with single compound. Regular Pooja are performed well.

Lord Sri Hari and Haran can be worshipped at the same temple complex separated by a big compound wall with a door to access both sides. A very beautiful and old temple near Pookadai area and Chennai may have got its name from these God names. Battachariar said that moolavar will be replaced with a statue made of athimaram during kumbabisekam times which is a speciality here. A must visit temple in Chennai city and can be reachable by road, rail and metro.

Devine place. Located near the High court. Easily reachable by metro. Located in a congested market place, better to go by public transport. Common parking is available nearby, but it will always be full.

Calm temple located in a busiest commercial street. When you crawl slowly on the crowded street to reach the temple, we can find completely opposite peaceful environment. As expected, Vishnu temple priests close the temple very early. Good we could have the dharshan through door windows. Better to go between 7 am to 9am or 5-8pm.

Beautiful temple. Well maintained. Done people claim that the city for is name from this temple. Infact there is a chenna malleswara temple adjacent which is also connected so that you enter one and go to the other. For some reason on a Sunday morning that I went here the temple was empty. Practically noone else.

The temple which might have originally lent it's name to the city, looks of medieval antiquity. Neat and clean in the evening, no crowds but the scheduled worship by the priests was in progress. Outside the temple, the whole world seems to be converging and swimming around in the wholesale markets which are very popular and friendly too.
