Devotional place!!!. Temple is maintained very well. Very often we visit this place. It is around 6km from kelambakkam. Buses are frequently available.. Spacious temple. Car parking facilities are also available. It's been a pleasant experience.. Crowded during festival time.

Nice murugan temple outside chennai. God murugan will be  in the form of Kandaswamy in standing posture. Good bus facilites to reach from Chennai and nearby smalls restaurants for breakfast and dinner. It has bigger temple pond with safety grill and water will be available throughout the year.

A blissful place. As part of temple there is no negatives. But some people over there have became greed after the month of May 2022.. the car parking charges have grown from ₹30 to ₹50 (not even an proper platform just a rugged sand and stone area, not even washroom facilities) for that we can park the car near the pond and carry on and we would park an car hardly less than an hour only.(apart special poojai) The hotel just opposite to the pond entrance also increased the price too much.. an ordinary pair of poories cost ₹40 and a small bowl of Pongal cost ₹70 quality was also not that much... So people plan accordingly next time...

The temple and the pond here today were built over three hundred years ago. Although it is said that there must have been an old Murugan temple at this place. History has it that the temple dates back to the time of the Pallava kings. Inscriptions dating back to the thirteenth century indicate that the town was a conquered Chola region in the Amur division of Thondai Nadu. Inscriptions depicting the demise of vikrama chola that Vijaya Kandadevar gave gold for the Nanda lamp are all found in ruins on the walls of the Deivayanayar Temple. These are the evidences that this temple is ancient. The town was also known as Samarapuri in those days. The 'Thiruporur Sannidhi Murai' sung by the Chidambaram Swamis about Lord Murugan is more famous than this temple. He was the one who rebuilt this temple

This temple is the scenic architecture of rock sculpture of Lord Murgan. There are more than 50 such idols in this temple. This temple remains open all day. The best time to visit the temple is early morning and during the evening.

Old Murugan temple nearer to Chennai. One of 3, old Kandaswamy temples in Tamil Nadu (Other 2 are: Cheyyur Kandaswamy temple, Chennai Kandhakottam Kandhaswamy temple). Chidhambara Swamigal reconstructed the temple from ruins during 17th Century, his samadhi is located nearer to temple. Thiruppugazh is sung here by Arunagirinathar. Temple tank is so big and never drained out. Main temple for marriages next to Vadapalani. Opposite to temple, a small hill is there with Shivan temple, view from there is beautiful

Presiding deity Lord Murugar (called as Kandhaswamy) is Swayambu here. He is divine, powerful and graces all the devotees. There are separate shrines for Valli and Deivayanai. As per Hindu legend, Lord Murugar fought with demons in 3 places. One of them is this place Thiruporur (land of war). Chidambaraswamy unearthed the Swayambu moorthy of Lord Muruga here and with his consorts he built this temple. Must visit temple.

Very unclean inside the temple and the nearby premises as well. TN government and temple management needs to take proper steps to make it a better place. Lord Murugan deserves better than this pathetic maintenance. Please kindly do the needful.

Thirupporur Khandasamy temple is an ancient temple, built during the Pallava period in the early 19th century. The idol or the incarnation of the Lord Muruga is well known as the Swayambu Murthi, which is layered by an anthill. People believe that the temple was discovered by the Chidambara Swamigal in the same anthill. The existing idol was re-established by the rulers in the Pallava period. Chidambara Swamigal and his descendants are responsible for the existence of the temple today. IMPORTANCE/SIGNIFICANCE Lord Muruga, is well known as the Kanthaswamy in this temple, and is graced with the Valli and Deivanai. The Lord is incarnated as the Suyambu avatar and is considered strange of its kind. The place was primarily called as the Yuthapuri. Nearby city is Tiruchandoor, another temple city in the state of Tamil Nadu. It is believed that Thiruporur got its name from the skies where the Lord Muruga fought with the evils, as mentioned in the Puranas. FACTS/MYTHOLOGY The temple is more signified due to its east facing location and architecture. A palmaya tree is located in the east side that is believed to have the Khanda Perumal on a small peetha or the seating that was specifically designed for the purpose. The main history behind this temple is that Lord Muruga fought with the Tharaga in this historical place and made him His slave. Since he was defeated in the war, the name came to be known as the Por (In Tamil, the word Por means war or battle). There are various stone inscriptions related to the temple and the sand there is termed as the Samarapuri or the Yudhapuri, that holds the importance. FESTIVALS/EVENTS/GATHERINGS Since the temple is dedicated to Lord Murugan, all the festivals and the special days that are considered in other deities are equally important for this temple as well. Some of the notable events include Chithirai in every month, rarely once or twice or even more than that; vaikashi festivals dedicated for Gurupoojai, ani, avani for vinayaga chathirthi, iyyappasi for Diwali festival, every Monday the Somavara Vratham or the fasting is also followed by the devotees, and a lot more. Thaippoosam is the most important festive treaties of the temple as Lord Muruga is very much favored on this day. Thaippoosam (also referred to as Thaipusam) is one of the oldest and traditional festivals celebrated for the Lord Muruka. It is believed that Vel or the spear would take of your adverse characters and complicated natures and reflect in a happy and peaceful environment.

Just about 40K+ from from Chennai, while it was a breeze to bicycle to the place in the early morning via OMR, it was horrendous getting back via ECR later in the day. The traffic and pollution made it very risky being a bicyclist on ECR. Temple was just open when we reached around 6:30 AM and devotees had just started trickling in. Though there were public facilities, they were far from usable, but ended up using one of them for taking bath, before going to the the temple. Had good darshan of Murugan thru the multitude of barricades, relaxed in the out praharams and soaked in on the 'blaring' devotional music before embarking on the ride back.

A must visit Murugan temple in and around Chennai. The temple has a great history and the crowd is huge, which resembles the belief of devotees. There is a small Vinayakar temple near to the pond. One can feed the fishes in the pond with rice puffs from vendors. The better time to visit the temple would be early morning or after 4pm - especially in summer.

Ancient and vibrant lord Murugan temple in outskirts of chennai. Very busy temple. Plan half day trip atleast so that one can spend time in the main shrine. Temple is made accessible though there are large steps at entrance as per the tradition.

Thiruporur Arulmigu Kanthasamy Temple has a facts which are said to have the fight of surabadhman(asura) from sky routes. The temple have a vast history and established by Chidambaram swamigal. The molavar is huge with valli deivasena on sides. This idol is not made of stone or metal and its a powerful suyambu (arise on its own) with putruman (sand of snake-termite mud gathering) We could not see on clear eye or other sculpture feature in lord's face. It’s truly rare. That makes this temple more historic and divinity. A elaborate complex with a year around fully loaded temple water tank. Once you reach, you can enter temple on side entrance. After ganapathy you can see small door leading to entrance. On auspicous day the temple will be fully crowded and if you’re planning to visit on weekends , better arrive early. Many buses run from OMR to this temple and also from Tambaram. The bus terminus is at walkable distance. Also there is a shiva sanithi with parvathy during outside prahara. Bairavar, Saniswarer also there. Vani tree is the sthala vrucha.

Lovely experience, I went recently around November 2021, no crowd at all, puja shouldn't be done because of government rules they said. So i was disappointed. I went for my kid star birthday there. He loved the place, played well. Puliogare was superbbbb.
