This place is absolutely beautiful but it’s closed for public now!😢So, one can never rate the place as bad but it’s unavailable for public use! What a tragedy?!? It’s sad that it’s closed for public because of the whims and fancies for the current CM Mr.MKS! It seems he takes his walks here. I mean, WTH? Just because he comes for a walk they can’t allow the public. I understand, it’s for his protection but close it when he does come and not all the time. It was closed for public during the pandemic and it has been closed ever since. I have no idea how the public turn a blind eye to this? It’s a jewel of Adyar and Besant nagar. The problem which such beautiful historical places in India is, once it starts to become neglected, it’s forgotten! Sad state of affairs! Wake up people and save your public spaces, it’s not a place for any politician’s private walks or the beaches to become their cemeteries! It’s atrocious. As tax paying people the unlucky have rights to public spaces, parks and beaches etc.

In a mysterious and serene forest-garden in the heart of Adyar, along the river banks lies the Theosophical Society of Chennai. Built on three main principles, this society seeks universal brotherhood without distinction on race, gender, creed or any other factor. Delve into their gorgeous gardens, teeming with flaura and fawna and you will assuredly have quite a remarkable evening. Those who love reading and learning about new ideologies and life philosophy, will find this Society especially interesting, though the library is off limits to tourists. If you step out onto the garden outside, the sounds of woodpeckers, parakeets, cuckoos and sparrows singing and trilling will greet your ears. Small animal species that are unique to the city can be seen scurrying around in the grass and playing in the trees. You can spot jackals and mongoose, as well as other small animals. The main attraction is a huge, 450 years old Banyan tree, supposedly the oldest in the world, with roots covering up to 60,000 square meters. Strolling through the garden is extremely peaceful, away from the chaos of the city and little shrines can be found throughout. Peace will engulf you as you study nature at its calmest, so be sure to take your time and appreciate all the beauty around you. The main ideologies of the Society are; To form a nucleus of the Universal Brotherhood of Humanity, without distinction of race, creed, sex, caste or color. To encourage the study of Comparative Religion, Philosophy and Science. To investigate unexplained laws of Nature and the powers latent in man.

Such a beautiful place. Inside it looks like mini forest. Within 250 meters once you can see a beautiful monument either a temple or a bungalow house. Fashionably disigned

One of the best place to go for a leisure walk, despite the odd opening hours! When we think about why those hours are offered for the visitors, it does makes sense. This few hours of visiting time leads to less ecological damage inside and hence preserve the nature in it's best form. Once can enjoy being in nature's close proximity and fall in love with the tranquility inside. It would bring peace and calmness to your mind and soul.

The Theosophy Society – Adyar is the name of a section of the Theosophical Society founded by Helena Petrovna Blavatsky and others in 1882. In that same year, its headquarters moved with Blavatsky and president Henry Steel Olcott from New York to Adyar, an area of Chennai, India. The designation 'Adyar' is added to make it clear that this is the Theosophical Society headquartered there, after the American section and some other lodges separated from it in 1895, under William Quan Judge.

I would call this as mini botanical garden in natural setting. Place to experience rhythmic Birds calls, flowers, variety of trees dotted with vintage mansions. Camera and videography is prohibited but smart phone photography they don't mind. There are 2 gates for entry and exit. Week ends visitors are not allowed. Week day visitor timings 8.30 AM to 10.00 AM and 2.00 PM to 4.00 PM

The place got variety of plants, nature and biodiversity. But the maintenance people tend to ask money to enter near the temples which seems odd because the place is free to visit. Also, need better signage to guide the walkers/ visitors to explore the beauty of the place better without getting shooed by the maintainence people like as if we are trespassing. Honestly that was distracting and gave me headache than mind peace.

This place is just amazing. A mini jungle in between a busy city is always amazing. A very good place for getting peace. The Banyan tree is the central attraction. Try to carry some food and water as you won't get then inside.

Went here on an afternoon in January. The Huntington gardens are beautiful. It is quiet and provides the perfect escape from the noise and chatter of the city. There are benches along the way to rest your weary legs. Carry your own water. Do not litter. I saw college students carelessly toss empty chips and water packets along the way, in spite of dust bins being available. It doesn't hurt to be mindful of our actions. There are some gorgeous succulents, mighty old trees, hundreds of bats hanging upside down, resting, a lovely lotus pond and of course, the famous banyan tree. I wish for the place to be open for longer hours. 2 hours in the morning and evening are hardly enough for people who love nature walks.

Google maps says it is open, however it has been closed since March 2020. The gatekeeper is so rude, we left fuming. He should know how to talk to people who come there to enquire. If no one is allowed, I wonder why he is there uselessly manning an empty place
