Dhone railway junction is one of the oldest and busiest railway stations in India. It connects several major cities like Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, Mumbai and Delhi. It also has a rich history and culture, as it was once a part of the Vijayanagara Empire and later the Nizam's dominion. I arrived at dhone railway junction early in the morning, after a long overnight train journey from Hyderabad. I also visited the nearby dhone fort, which is a ruined structure that dates back to the 16th century. It was once a stronghold of the Vijayanagara kings, who used it to defend their territory from the invaders. The fort has a moat, a gatehouse, a watchtower and some bastions. It also offers a panoramic view of the town and the surrounding hills. I spent a few hours in dhone railway junction, enjoying its unique atmosphere and learning about its past. I met some friendly locals who told me stories and anecdotes about the place. I also tasted some delicious local delicacies like mirchi bajji, pulihora and boorelu.
