The trail is very easy. Anyone can do it without a problem. One side of the loop follows a very scenic stretch of Roaring Run, with many cascades along the way. Also seems to be a bunch of swimming holes as well. Trail ends at the main drop. You can continue over the falls to go to the Iron Ore trail, or just go back and take the other side of the loop along the ridge and end back down at the furnace. Trail is very well maintained. Gets really crowded in the summer months, but on the weekdays and in the fall / winter it’s not busy at all.

Great hike I can't believe I have never before been on this wonderful easy hike. It is breathtaking beautiful and not crowded. We had a great day after Christmas hike. The trail does get narrow and dogs must be leashed.

Roaring Run is a family favorite for us. We love this place so much for me. It's as great as going to a water park. Maybe even better. We go and plan to spend the whole day. Typically we take the shorter trail up to the falls play at the falls for a while. Let the littler kids get used to sliding on the slower rocks below the falls. Then we head down for the next sliding rock. Spend a good portion of our time there, then head down to the final sliding rock. The last sliding rock is a little more intense. But it's fun for the whole family with varying levels of slides. Also, the trails are great. The waterfalls are beautiful. We highly recommend for family outings!

Tony and I went to Roaring Run Furnace In the Jefferson National Forest. This is a stone Built Pig Iron Furnace built in 1830. This 192 yr old construction is still standing There is 2 trails to the waterfall. We took the shorter trail that winds around the creek Banks and crosses a few bridges. The water was moving rapidly over large rocks. Very nice path but lots of roots. The park was easy to find with GPS. It is free to enjoy. Plenty of parking and restrooms. Well marked trails. The Furnace is located about 500 feet from the parking lot and bathrooms. There is plenty of picnic tables and a creek for fishing and cooling off in warmer weather. There is also a waterfall to hike to!! Nice park and highly recommend especially for the historic value! Great day trip or field trip for home schooling!!

A wonderful "out of the way" hiking location with perfect photo opportunities! Not a difficult hike, but just be wary of your footsteps...... it's not a pleasant fall if you lose your footing. Make sure you bring water, and hit the head before taking this picturesque stroll. You'll definitely want to spend time taking pictures, a quick dip in one of the natural pools, and hike one of the trails that forms off of the main path. Please remember to pick up any trash that you bring, and please keep your children quiet. Other people are there for the scenery and wildlife!

Loved the area, just be warned that the trail past the furnace is a much steeper and strenuous hike than the signs indicate

It is a beautiful place to enjoy a packed lunch and a short hike along the falls, but there are also more advanced trails as well as good fishing spots. The variety of wildflowers is incredible.
