We LOVE China star! I’ve never had a dish that didn’t amaze me. I am right outside their delivery and I go out of my way to pick up. I’ve also eaten inside a few times. Service is fast and very friendly. Definitely my favorite place for Sichuan Chinese food. Some of my favs from here: 辣子鸡 (Sichuan chili chicken)，辣子鱼 (Sichuan chili fish, cooked the same as previous)，麻婆豆腐 （mapo tofu, you can ask for them to add pork :) )， 麻辣香锅(spicy incense dry pot) ，新加坡米粉 (Singapore noodles) 担担面 （dan dan noodles). I don't know about y'all, but I've always been craving genuinely authentic Sichuan food. If you want that, this is the one place in Fairfax City which offers it - all the other restaurants add too much sugar or tailor their flavor towards typical audiences. Personally I'd recommend things like the Sichuan Chili Chicken, Sizzling Pot Lamb, and Fish Filet with Bean Curd. All solid options if you want more authentic food. EDIT: As of November 2023 it seems that the name of this establishment (and I think the owner?) has changed. Nonetheless Chef Yan (formerly known as China Star) continues to serve good authentic food. Shown below are the Chongqing Style Chicken (Sichuan Chili Chicken), Chef's Special Spicy Beef Brisket, and Spicy Fish Filets with Tofu.

Place just opened for dining, though they have been doing takeout for some time. Place is newly renovated though with the same layout as the old China Star. The food quality, especially the sauces seemed a step up from China Star. Service continues to be an issue, especially during high takeout times. They just seem a bit understaffed. But it is nice to have a go to sit down Chinese restaurant in the eastern Fairfax city area again.

They have the BEST 水煮鱼 (Jiangbei Shuizhu Yu) in DMV. If you like dry chili aroma, try this dine-in you won’t regret it. Thinly sliced fish showcases excellent knife work, with the hot oil heated dry chili and Sichuan peppercorn on top, the dish takes me back to Chongqing.

Sorry, too oily for me and some meat dishes taste dry and not fresh. Even we pointed that out to our waiter, he said this is just this store’s cooking style. And he doesn’t like that dish neither.

I ordered takeout. Sweet &sour Chicken and. Beef dish. Beef dish was one in the best my sister has ever had, but I cannot say the same for the chicken. I am not even sure if it was Sweet and Sour Chicken as it did not look like any that I have ever eaten. The rice that was supposed to come with was not present with the order.

Have only ordered carryout since the new chef took over. Great taste, plentiful portions, quick service. The place was packed at 5 pm on a Wednesday, so I'm glad that I had ordered carryout instead of dining in.

Must have new owners but the food here is amazing now. Super fresh, hot, and authentic. Fast service too. A new favorite in the area!
