The 18th century mill town of Occoquan has it's fair share of sit down restaurants, many of which have outdoor patios. However, in a quaint town as this, time must not be wasted. Ideally, you'll order a quality lunch to-go and wander down Mill Street stopping inside shops and art galleries. Ballywhack Shack provides that experience. Open Thursday-Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., here's why you should go: 1) Food: Their specialty is sandwiches, hot dogs and Italian sodas, but they also have a large coffee menu with special drinks like brown butter toffee lattes. Yelpers rave about the sandwiches, but I love a good hot dog. After ordering the "Dutch Dog," I can say that ranks among the best hot dogs of my life. It comes cut down the middle on a bun with melted cheddar cheese and house-made pepper cabbage slaw. The combination of flavors is so good! 2) Location: It's in the middle of Mill Street in Historic Occoquan. Although there’s shared seating and a loft area above, grab your food to-go and wander down the street exploring all the shops and galleries. Or head to River Mill Park to sit on one of many benches along the river. Next door to Ballywhack Shack is Potomac Chocolate. If you buy one of their $9 bars, you can sit at the table on their porch. 3) Space: It's literally a small red shack. You walk up to a small window, order and the worker hands you your food minutes later. It's so quirky that you can't help but love it. If you find yourself in Occoquan, stop by Ballywhack Shack for a "Dutch Dog!"

The historic town of Occoquan makes a great day trip coming from DC or northern Virginia. When visiting, you have to check out this sandwich place. The food is delicious, quick and easy to picnic with on the waterfront.

This place was GREAT. we had the Twisted Sister, the lobster roll, the potato salad, and a strawberry, mint lemonade, and a maple pumpkin iced latte. The Twisted Sister and the potato salad were stellar. Kind of a long wait, but it was the middle of the lunch rush. Expect about 20 minutes, which is well worth it!

Edit: sorry for coming off so strongly about the coffee I've had coffee a lot at your stand since my wife enjoys the different sodas you offer. Everytime it's just bland honestly. Recently I got the butter toffee hot latte, and it was just hot milk and not sweet at all. I stirred it but nothing helped. I will absolutely adjust my review. My apologies for it.

Wow! Randy’s Rueben is to die for! The Cheezy Wheezy, Zimerman Hot dog and Lavender Latte were very good as well. We will definitely be back!

Delicious and well crafted sandwiches! A+ for earth friendly packaging!!! They even let me order a plain frank for my dog;)) The macaroni and the potato salad was good. I had a delicious peppermint latte w a extra shot and the milk was frothy to the last drop.

Weird little shack on the street but the food and drinks were wonderful. It is apparent that they know what they are doing and probably experimented with what works and what doesn't because the bread and other ingredients they used work so well. I enjoyed my unsweetened ice tea but totally devoured my daughters peach lemonade. Looking forward to my next visit.

This is my go-to place for coffee and sandwiches in Occoquan! My lattes are always perfect and the sandwiches are delicious every time. I stop by at least once a week and have never had a bad experience! Check them out when you are in town!
