Right next to Bub and Pop's (a legendary sandwich spot), Fava Pot is a Egyptian restaurant owned by the kindest people. This space is small, but the two self-order pads help with the flow. My chicken shawarma sandwich was flavorful and large. (It comes in two halves). There's free ice water, but I also got the apricot juice. It's thick and so good! There are tables inside and a few outside.

Meh. The ingredients were fresh and the garlic cream and tiziki sauces were good, but nothing stood out as great. I love Mediterranean cuisine and this was average based on my experience. Especially compared to other options in DC that are way better. It’s pretty much self serve. You order on a tablet and the server in the back brings the food. He also came by my table once to see if everything was all right.

Amazing place with great-ish food (personal preference) I normally don’t eat Egyptian food, but I’m with my grandparents. I had the Kosheri and this thing that was kinda like a quesadilla. The atmosphere was amazing there were a bunch of popular middle eastern people on the walls. The service was also good. They were really nice and asked if we’ve been to Egypt before. I personally haven’t but my grandparents have so he asked them what there favorite meal in Egypt was, to compare with there restaurant. They said Kosheri.

Stopped by with a couple friends while visiting DC and the place is AMAZING!! Not to mention great service, a super friendly owner as well! The flavors and aromas are on point and true to authentic Egyptian cuisine. Everything about my kofta bowl was perfect from the seasoned rice and macerated greens, they really nail flavor down to the detail here. Ordering is simple and done through a tablet while the status is relayed to customer via text. Food also comes in recyclable bowls with optional lids and utensils made available in case it’s too much for one sitting, which I found to be very convenient. The portions are generous.

This small restaurant features Egyptian street food. My Kofta Sandwich and Hibiscus Tea were good, but with tax and tip the bill came out to $25. I'll order more carefully next time.

I had the kofta and the chicken kabob bowl. Both were good, but I prefer the kofta. The people are very nice there.

Loved the vibe. history on the wall. Food was great. Kofte were tender and tasty. Rice was warm, moist and yummy. Really, really impressed. Got hot sauce on the side but didn't use it cause the food was so satisfying by itself.

We stumbled upon this gem of a restaurant while on our way to Bubbi's Plant Burgers, but their A/C wasn't working on a brutally hot day so we came here. Boy was I glad we did. Our son loves anything Egyptian and he as well as us, loved the food here. So flavourful, delicious and the service was fantastic! We are vegan and it was quite easy to eat here. Great options. 5/5. Highly recommend! ___________________________________________________ Follow me for more reviews, tips and photos!

Was needling something light and close. Saw this place offered Falafel. (Few veg options), I was picturing more content for the price of the bowl… flavors were definitely fresh and made in house tastes, but, that’s it. The potatoes were basic and didn’t make sense, the “salad” again, didn’t make since and dry, with a scoop of hummus..no side of bread or rice/quinoa or something. None the less, minus the lack of contents, the flavors were refreshing, and I did want something light. I also tried their pasty they have on display (visually appealing)… however very sweet! So, keep that in mind, but for the price of the dessert, that was more practical. The inside was quant! The Decor was inviting and seemed authentic and modern, There was enough space to dine in comfortably if you or a small group chose too.

This place was 5 stars all around. The place itself is very clean and the atmosphere is great. The food is fresh, fast, authentic and delicious. I’d try anything on the menu but loved the bechamel, hummus, and falafel. I would also recommend the fresh limeade, it tastes the same as you would get on the streets of Cairo.

Decent small location in the heart of DC. that offers authentic street food from Egypt. Quick service, good food, friendly staff. Parking is a nightmare, prices are way too expensive. I paid $23 for a bowl of koshary and a can of soda, tips and taxes are included. The koshary alone was $18 I had koshary before in different places and the maximum i paid was $10, this is recent. I think koshary shouldn't even cost more than $7-10, it's made out of the cheapest ingredients on the planet (rice, lentils, elbow pasta, chickpeas, onion and tomatoes). A koftah sandwich cost about the same, I ended up paying around $50 For street food, this is ridiculous. 5 stars for everything, 1 star for food cost. And, NO I wouldn't go back again.

Liked this place a lot - suitable for a quick lunch grab on workdays and provides very fulfilling and delicious meals. The staff is open to accommodate small requests and the order process is pretty quick. Oh and out within 10 mins on a Wednesday afternoon

Upon entering "Fava Pot," I was welcomed by a warm and inviting atmosphere, seamlessly blending Egyptian influences with modern comfort. As I explored the menu, the offerings proved to be a delectable fusion of traditional flavors. I began with a well-crafted assortment of falafel and hummus that showcased the kitchen's commitment to authenticity. The food was flavorful, rich and satisfying. The culinary expertise evident in each bite hinted at a genuine understanding of Middle Eastern cuisine. In summary, Fava Pot offers a dining experience that transports patrons to the heart of Egypt. The thoughtfully curated menu and inviting ambiance make it a notable destination for those seeking an authentic taste of Egypt in a modern setting. Conversing with the co-owner was a delight!

Excellent quality preparation and ingredients, tasty, huge portions, clean modern interior. Got the falafel sandwich and rice pudding (portions easily enough for 2 meals/persons) and the homemade mint limeade (everything was super fresh and delicious). Will be back to try more menu items:-).

The restaurant is a small but good place that provides Egyptian good. Had the opportunity to have Kofta bowl, falafel, and Hawawshi. Hawawshi tasted like qeema paratha, while kofta bowl has better taste.

I got the Vegetarian lentil-rice bowl (begins w/a K). Excellent flavor. Not your ordinary rice with toppings. This dish was well thought out and executed. Yes, the dishes are pricey, but this will last me for three lunches. Yes, it's that big. I will definitely come back. And then I'll get the lentil-rice bowl to serve as a side dish at my next dinner (could be a side dish for 6)! This place gives ingenuity to the local lunch/dinner offerings. Love it.

Tasty! A little expensive. I had the Fava Beans as an appetizer and Hawashei sandwich. The Fava Beans used some decent oil - it was not waxy. Losing a star because the worker would not give me tap water. He offered me a plastic cup after I asked for water... but no tap water. Weird, never had that sort of restaurant experience. I don't understand restaurants that only offer bottled water.

I have been longing to find a place that makes Egyptian food anywhere close to what I had the pleasure of enjoying when I visited Egypt over a year ago. Living in Texas, I’ve had no luck. While visiting DC we found this incredible little spot!!! The ta’ameya and foul made me feel like I was sitting back on our balcony in Giza eating breakfast, staring at the Great Pyramids!! The mint drink was incredible, the grilled chicken kabob pita sandwich was so similar to the sandwiches we got for breakfast with our tour guides in the streets of Giza on our way to different attractions. The bread was a little thicker, but had all the flavor and texture of true Egyptian Baladi bread. And to find dolmas that are ACTUALLY made in-house and served hot and fresh….no words! In Texas it’s almost always the canned junk. Next the service and atmosphere was amazing! If it hadn’t been 100° outside, I would have indulged in their Egyptian coffee, which I couldn’t get enough of while in Egypt. The guy running it all, Sam, was so friendly and even brought us samples of the mint drink and sample desserts to leave with, which were great! To find a little piece of Egypt here in the US was so wonderful and Sam, thank you so much for making us feel welcome and letting us try a variety of your food and drinks! Next time we are back on that side of the country, we WILL come back! Please, please, open a Fava Pot within driving distance from Dallas, TX!!! I can’t get over the ta’ameya (falafel)! For those who don’t know, if you’ve never had Egyptian falafel with fava beans, NOT chickpeas, it is a whole different experience and so very good!!!! Check out Fava Pot to see for yourself!

I really enjoyed this place. The kofta sandwich is delicious and reminds me of traveling in Egypt. The whole restaurant is extremely clean as well and the owner is a very nice guy.

Very tasty. A little bit on the pricy side but still a good amount of food. Which hummus came with the falafel bowl but it was good!

The falafel sandwich was extremely garlic heavy, whether it’s the spread or the falafel itself, overpowering taste made my food almost inedible.

Authentic Egyptian food spot with amazing taste and great service near DuPont. The owners are kind and very informative. S/o to the my guy and chef Chris Samuels. My favorite spot to eat at during lunchtime. I highly recommend.

Passing through, didn't have firm plans for lunch, and was Googling nearby menus by best ratings. Fava Pot looked unique and appealing. I'm so glad we were steered in the correct direction... two of us each ordered two items so we could taste our way around the menu. Very good food with pleasant surprises, having ordered some things new to our palate. Once time permitted, the staff member who prepared our food come out to chat and answer questions. We were disappointed that a fava bean appetizer was sold out, but I'd be very happy to use that as an excuse to return.

Authentic Egyptian food exactly as if you eat in Egypt. Atmosphere and music are nostalgic. Service is very professional 5 ⭐. Strongly recommend Hawawshi and fava bean sandwich . Koshary is unreal too.

Salaam aleikum, habibi! Marhaba! Welcome to the coolest Cairo tables this side of the Mediterranean. Definitely worth the time to bust in to DC on a warm summer evening and meet (Moroccan) brother Akeem, though FP Merrifield isn’t but a short jaunt from my abode. This city scape locale has awesome and always available outdoor seating, as well as a decor along the interior that almost implores you to hop a flight ✈️ out of JFK to the Mid-East. Can’t comment on the Egyptian fare at this particular location just yet (popping in on the 🏍 for a small box of sweet baclava only!) — however if the kitchen here rocks like Dina is known to command well, then for sure this is a def-must-hit in the M Street corridor of urban life. Closed Monday (fair warning!). Any other day you will assuredly be the guest of honor that all such DC men & women of culture secretly know and experience… and tell none. 🇪🇬 **See ya there? Insha’Allah! 🙏🙏🏽🙏🏿😎**

I love koshary, but it can be hard to find. I was delighted to come across this place near to me - the koshary is delicious (and a huge portion), the owner is really nice, and it has good atmosphere. Excited to go back!

This place is an Egyptian gem in the heart of DC. Treat yourself with their mouthwatering Kushari, and, if you’re a big eater like me, throw yummy kufta on top of your bowl. Shout out to the amazing Chris and Terry!

Quick and delicious, very friendly staff & simple seating. My first time eating Egyptian food and I was impressed with their falafel and hummus.
