Thursday,
I
had
what
I
thought
was
a
stroke
and
initially
went
to
our
local
urgent
care,
who
directed
us
to
the
emergency
room.
They
saw
me
fairly
quickly
(within
30
minutes),
and
did
an
EKG
and
a
Head
CT.
Both
people
who
did
the
tests
or
escorted
me
to
the
scan
rooms
were
very
polite
and
friendly.
I
was
asked
to
go
back
to
the
waiting
room
to
wait
for
the
results.
It
took
a
few
hours
for
them
to
call
me
back
again,
which
is
totally
fine,
they
had
a
lot
of
patients
and
seemed
busy.
I
had
no
issues
with
any
part
of
my
visit
at
this
point.
We
get
called
back
and
I'm
told
that
both
results
came
back
fine
and
it
didn't
appear
there
was
anything
wrong
with
me.
However,
they
didn't
want
to
be
dismissive
of
the
event
and
were
going
to
give
me
some
information
on
a
clinic
for
follow-up.
I
was
told
I
would
have
to
fast
before
the
clinic
and
couldn't
eat
anything
after
midnight.
Considering
it
was
between
9-10
PM
at
this
point,
I
figured
I
would
have
more
than
enough
time
and
agreed
to
get
appointment
information
about
the
clinic.
Someone
returns
at
11
PM
with
the
clinic
information
and
says
they'll
work
on
getting
my
discharge
paperwork
together.
I
was
given
the
discharge
paperwork
around
1
AM.
I
told
them
I
wouldn't
be
able
to
go
to
the
clinic
Friday,
(as
I
had
missed
any
opportunity
to
eat
anything
that
day
and
did
not
want
to
go
30+
hours
without
eating),
and
asked
if
there
was
another
day
I
could
do
it.
She
got
a
panicked
look
on
her
face
and
said
that
no,
if
I
didn't
go
tomorrow,
it
was
likely
I
wouldn't
ever
be
able
to
go.
I
said
that
was
fine,
I
won't
go
and
I'll
just
see
what
happens,
and
then
I
was
told
"If
you
have
another
stroke,
you
could
die.
And
if
you
don't
die,
you
could
end
up
living
in
a
nursing
home
with
a
feeding
tube
coming
out
of
your
stomach
for
the
rest
of
your
life."
Uh...
what
happened
to
it
being
nothing
and
this
just
being
a
precaution.
I
felt
like
she
was
trying
to
fearmonger
and
force
me
to
go
to
this
clinic
which
made
me
very
suspicious
and
not
want
to
go.
If
it
was
that
serious
then
why
did
I
have
25
minutes
of
tests
and
over
8
hours
of
wait
time?
It
turned
out
that
I
was
not
having
a
stroke,
I
was
having
a
Hemiplegic
Migraine
caused
by
an
adverse
reaction
to
a
medication
I
was
taking.
When
I
had
my
second
episode
6
days
later,
I
removed
the
suspected
medication
from
my
regiment
and
the
migraines
stopped.
They
didn't
take
a
family
history,
and
while
they
did
ask
me
for
what
conditions
I
took
medications,
they
didn't
ask
me
the
specific
medications
I
took.
I
feel
if
they
had,
they
would
have
known
earlier
on
that
it
was
just
a
migraine.
(The
medication
in
question
suppresses
my
appetite,
but
can
also
give
you
migraines
if
routinely
taken
on
an
empty
stomach.
I've
had
migraines
my
whole
life,
so
I
thought
I
knew
what
to
be
on
the
lookout
for.
However,
I
didn't
consider
this
was
what
was
happening
because
I
had
no
idea
Hemiplegic
Migraines
even
existed
or
that
they
could
mirror
stroke
symptoms.)
The
icing
on
the
cake
is
the
discharge
paperwork
indicates
I
came
via
ambulance
(which
means
I'm
sure
the
bill
will
include
a
steep
ambulance
charge),
when
my
sister
drove
me
to
the
hospital,
not
the
ambulance.
I
don't
know
what
anyone's
titles
were
so
I
can't
make
a
blanket
statement
that
X
people
were
good
and
Y
people
were
not
good,
but
I
will
say
the
first
few
people
I
interacted
with
were
very
kind
and
pleasant
and
I
felt
very
taken
care
of
by
them.
The
longer
I
was
there
and
the
people
I
saw
later
into
my
stay...
less
so.
Next
time
I
need
emergency
care,
I'll
try
my
chances
at
a
different
hospital.
