The closest you can get to the Holy Land and Roman Catacombs without going. Measured by Fransiscan monks to match pilgrim sites across Israel and Rome, this church models the history that is an ocean away. From the tomb of Jesus, the top of Calvary, to the depths below the Church. Embrace history and enjoy the depth of artistry involved to make such a beautiful place of worship.

A great place to relax, meditate and pray. Its gardens are very pretty. There are benches to sit. It isn't crowded.

Truly beautiful, there is nothing else like it. From the cathedral to the garden, the Franciscan Monastery of the Holy Land is an absolute shocker. Visitors of any background, Catholic or not, would find this place an absolute gem. The dense vegetation is incredible, the koi pond is absolutely lovely, and the stations of the cross and statues/pictures of Mary and other saints are of upmost extravagance. This place truly deserves more than five stars and truly impressed me.

What a find in DC...who knew? Lovely place to take a walk. The tulips were just up 2nd week in April. Various depictions of religious scenes are scattered about. Just a lovely peaceful place.

The gardens in the cloisters next to the church are beautiful, very intimate. But stepping into the larger garden, by walking down into it, from the cloisters, is remarkable experience. This is a superb garden. Enjoy!

A hidden DC gem. Beautiful gardens, interesting tour, and a stunning church. Recommend registering for the tour on eventbrite - you get to see some catacombs

If you are looking for internal peace and a direct connection with God, here is a place that you may like very much. It is an unforgettable experience for the Catholic I liked the way in which one can feel calm and can see with oneself through these murals art and a lot of passion but above all, you can see from where everything is born for those of us who believe in God, very nice.

Enery 13 June I give out the bread of St. Anthony to continue the tradition of my Grandmum and Mum. Thank you yo all at the Monastery for a very blessed day and after 3 years due to the pandemic and regulations we were unable to provide the bread. Look forward to next year. Many blessings and for a peaceful enjoyable day trip vist the Monastery and enjoy the tranquility and peacefulness of the gardens and grottoes along with a most interesting tour below of the catacombs. Highly recommend!

A beautiful church and gardens in Northern DC. If you have a chance to do their garden tour during the spring, summer, or fall, it's a beautiful experience. They have a variety of gardens, shrines, and grottos across the grounds, as well as a gift shop with religious goods and some local products. For the last several years my family has gone to the Christmas midnight mass which is a beautiful and solemn event. During the Christmas holidays, they are known for their extensive candle luminaries surrounding the main courtyard. A noteworthy site for both religious and architectural interests.

Grew up within walking distance! Over my life, I’ve frequently visited the monastery! Have taken numerous tours of the catacombs and enjoy walking all around the grounds. A peaceful place to visit for solitude and quiet prayer. Enjoy the lower level gardens, tombs and stations of the cross. I love my times visiting the monastery. I’m 73yrs. of age and hope to be able to continue my visits to the monastery and its beautiful grounds for as long as I able to. It’s like my second home, so peaceful!

Peaceful and harmonic place. What is God? Love, truth, honesty, joy, goodwill, generosity .... all the moral and descent qualities combined. What is suffering? All the opposite qualities of God. When the cause is there, the consequence is about to come. May All be happy, peaceful and liberated.

Words can't describe, definitely worth a visit, especially the simplicity and humility of the low entrance to the replica of the tomb of Jesus. Not all areas are open without a tourguide, but plenty can be seen without. The grounds and church are beautiful and tours are offered frequently. Go there today!

Was invited this place is beautiful got to see a brass band perform in the loud music hall it’s kinda surreal but worth visiting with family and friends helps you understand that things aren’t built over night but a elongation of devotion

Absolutely gorgeous church and grounds. My husband and I come here for Midnight Mass on Christmas Eve when we are in town. The service is always lovely, with the music being a high point. We love to walk through the grounds outside of the church too.

Thank you to Charles who kindly offered an impromptu tour to us yesterday. The catacombs were my favorite part and we wouldn’t have seen them without your offer. The grounds are beautiful and calming and the interior of the monastery is incredible. It is free to visit, donations accepted. We spent about 2.5 hours here. It is about a 15 minute walk from the Brookland-CUA metro stop.

A very beautiful and serene place to get to know more about the Holy and and Catholic religion. This place is truly the best place to visit before going to the actual holy land 😃🙏. Plenty of spots to pray and learn about the history behind the saints and relics, as well as the actual replica of some holy sites. Helpful and friendly staff, parking is available across the street and also the bus stop is just a short walk away. You will definitely enjoy visiting this place and feel the presence of God. Cleanliness and detailed explanations are both present in both indoor and outdoor facilities.

The best kept secret in Washington DC! I have lived here for 30 years and somehow never heard of it or visited. The numerous tile mosaics are absolutely incredible with such brilliant colors-indoors and out. Beautiful gardens and wonderful craftanship, too. The entire complex invites contemplation and peace. You need not be particularly religious to enjoy the beauty of this place.

My friend’s family comes here every year for the Easter service! Beautiful and interesting, especially if you can’t travel to Europe to see one of theirs. The outside garden is quite a steep slope without rails though, just a warning for peoples knees. 10/10 would recommend!
