MY
TRYST
WITH
COVID@KOHINOOR
HOSPITAL,
MUMBAI
I
wish
to
recount
the
sordid
saga
of
3
weeks
fighting
this
pandemic
as
my
key
vitals
had
touched
depths
of
despair
to
the
shock
of
doctors
and
interventions
extended
by
hospital
staff
in
a
timely
manner.
Improvement
areas
for
the
administration
to
improve
upon
their
staff
behavior.
During
my
3
week
in
the
hospital,
like
to
encapsulate
the
amount
of
interventions
in
the
form
of
injections,
steroids,
antibiotics,
supplements,
thinners
and
insulin
the
under
the
supervision
of
doctors/nurses
who
ensured
that
these
were
administered
in
a
timely
manner
ο§ I
was
also
put
on
course
of
Remdesvir
and
administered
the
life-saving
injection
Tocilizumab
400
mg.
ο§ 200+
injections
either
directly
or
indirectly
(intravenous)
with
different
steroids,
insulin,
thinners,
vitamins,
and
other
medicines
were
being
administered
3-4
times
a
day
ο§ Was
on
oxygen
support
@50-70%
on
the
BIPAP
machine
at
intervals
and
remaining
on
normal
oxy
@10-15%
The
hospital
staff
were
an
epitome
of
service
with
a
smile.
They
were
relentlessly
taking
care
of
patients,
despite
facing
staff
shortage,
facing
the
rants
and
ire
of
the
patients
but
were
patient
with
only
one
motto
in
their
mind
βhealing
of
their
patients.
Special
mention
to
RAVI,
a
Welfare
officer
to
take
care
of
the
issues
of
patients;
and
he
was
there
for
all.
He
is
truly
a
KOHINOOR
of
the
hospital.
Few
names
at
the
top
of
my
mind,
Anish,
Rosie,
Deepa,
Aditi,
Nimisha,
Nisha,
Harkirat
and
Sukpri.
Amongst
doctors,
Sumit,
Pushpa
and
Ashwini,
Dietician
β
Vidisha
and
Physio
β
Samrin
&
Christi
would
like
to
place
a
heartfilled
thanks
and
gratitude
as
they
looked
after
me
during
the
days
of
the
cytokine
storm
that
I
went
thru.
Also,
special
mention
of
thanks
to
Ram
Mama,
Hitesh,
Satya
and
Mohd,
who
were
there
at
your
beck
and
call
supporting
you.
Apologies,
if
I
have
missed
anybody,
it
is
not
intentional
but
my
thanks
to
all
the
staff
of
Kohinoor
Few
instances
warranting
a
feedback
1) Non
availability
of
wet
tissues
when
highlighted
had
this
nurse
walking
up
to
me
and
starts
howling
at
the
top
of
her
voice
in
the
ICU
as
to
why
the
escalation
was
done.
2) Another
incident
which
was
nerve
wrecking
for
me
was
when
the
BIPAP
machine
was
accidentally
switched
off,
I
was
gasping
for
breath
and
found
it
difficult
to
unstrap
the
mask
from
my
face.
3) One
of
the
ICU
doctors
who
was
high
handed
in
his
approach;
instructed
his
staff
to
put
me
on
RT
Pipe
basis
the
other
patients
who
were
on
it.
I
was
quiet
appalled
a
shocked
at
this
behavior
and
this
was
in
direct
contradiction
to
what
my
consultant
doctors
instructions
was.
This
definitely
left
a
sour
taste
in
my
mouth;
but
as
a
respect
for
the
work
being
done
by
them,
I
will
still
THANK
THEM
and
do
not
want
to
shroud
the
good
work
by
the
larger
staff
Finally,
heartfelt
thanks
to
my
dear
Dr.
Chetan
Velani
for
getting
me
out
of
this
pandemic
thru
timely
interventions
and
Atul
Modak
for
his
support
during
my
stay
at
Kohinoor.
