There
were
a
total
of
11
forts
on
the
islands
of
Mumbai.
Among
them,
the
British
built
"Worli
Fort"
on
a
small
hill
on
the
mainland
of
Worli
Island.
This
fort
was
used
to
monitor
and
protect
sea
trade.
The
headland
of
Worli,
the
fort
of
Mahim
and
the
fort
of
Bandra
come
together
to
form
a
shape
similar
to
the
English
letter
'U'.
The
sea
here
is
always
calm
due
to
the
natural
indentation
at
this
place.
Therefore,
in
this
area,
there
is
a
big
problem
of
small
boats,
ships,
and
boats
This
fort,
located
on
the
hill
of
Worli,
has
been
recently
renovated
by
the
Department
of
Archaeology.
So
the
fort
is
in
good
condition.
After
entering
the
fort
through
a
small
gate,
there
is
a
small
bell
tower
at
the
top
of
the
gate.
There
is
a
water
well
in
the
fort
and
next
to
it
is
a
small
temple
and
a
gymnasium.
A
stairway
is
built
to
reach
the
fort's
shore.
You
can
go
to
the
fortifications
of
the
fort
by
this
staircase.
From
the
fortifications
of
the
fort,
the
region
up
to
Bandra,
Mahim
comes
into
view.
Even
outside
the
fort
After
getting
off
at
the
last
stop
of
the
BEST
bus
from
Dadar
to
Worli
Koliwada
(169;118,56),
we
reach
this
fort
after
a
10-minute
walk
through
the
fisherman's
colony.
Since
the
fort
is
small
and
self-contained,
it
can
be
seen
in
half
an
hour.
