The
planetarium
was
established
on
3rd
March,
1977.
Nehru
Planetarium
is
a
part
of
Nehru
Centre,
it
has
been
named
after
India's
first
Prime
Minister
Jawaharlal
Nehru.
It
is
a
domed
shaped
building
in
which
images
of
stars,
planets
and
constellations
are
projected
for
education
and
public
entertainment.
The
planetarium
has
become
a
centre
for
scientific
studies
of
astronomy
and
space
science.
You
can
meet
different
scientists
and
scholars
for
discussions
and
lectures
at
this
centre.
The
centre
conducts
regular
pragrammes
which
include
public
shows
like
Stars
&
Wonders
of
the
Universe.
These
public
shows
are
conducted
in
Hindi,
English
and
Marathi.
Nehru
Planetarium,
Mumbai
show
timings
are
12
noon
(Hindi),
1.30pm
(Marathi),
3pm
(English)
and
4.30pm
(Hindi).
For
convenience
you
can
book
your
ticket
one
week
in
advance
at
the
planetarium's
booking
window
between
11am
to
5pm.
You
can
also
book
your
ticket
through
their
website.
The
ticket
rate
for
an
adult
is
Rs.
50
and
for
child
between
4
–
12
years
age
is
Rs.25.
The
centre
offers
student
concession
for
a
group
of
minimum
25
students,
the
concession
is
available
only
after
submitting
school
authority
letter.
The
planetarium
is
closed
on
Mondays
and
public
holidays,
like
holi,
ganesh
chaturthi,
dassera
and
diwali.
Programmes
and
facilities
available
at
Nehru
Planetarium
in
Mumbai
Nehru
Planetarium,
Worli
conducts
number
of
stellar
and
astronomical
events
periodically.
These
programmes
are
built
to
inspire
students
as
they
include
science
quiz
contests,
astro-painting,
science
elocution,
astro-poetry
and
astro-quiz
competitions.
Jawaharlal
Nehru
Planetarium
are
located
at
major
cities
in
India,
including
Mumbai,
New
Delhi
and
Bangalore.
The
planetarium
also
conducts
free
live
sky
observation
programmes
using
telescopes,
provided
the
sky
is
clear
and
objects
are
visible.
These
programmes
are
held
only
on
Sundays
from
7
p.m.
to
8
p.m.
from
November
to
May.
Since
its
inception,
the
planetarium
has
generated
around
28
astronomical
presentations
using
Carl
Zeiss
Mark
IV
Universal
Projector.
To
keep
the
center
updated
with
new
technology,
they
have
installed
Digistar-3
Planetarium
equipment.
This
new
equipment
sends
information
to
six
high
resolution
video
projectors
that
cover
the
entire
dome.
The
planetarium
also
offers
a
certificate
course
of
one
year
in
astronomy
and
astrophysics.
This
course
is
collaborated
with
Nehru
Planetarium
and
University
of
Mumbai.
The
planetarium
has
a
seating
capacity
for
500
persons.
Visitors
are
asked
to
report
at
the
auditorium
before
15
minutes,
as
the
center
does
not
allow
anyone
to
enter
the
auditorium
once
the
show
starts.
