DHOBI GHAT Mumbai's biggest Dhobi Ghat in mahalaxmi. Here all types of services provided for durty clothes. Here all types of clothes are washing just like hospital clothes, hotels clothes and biggest clothes. All foreigners and Non Residence of India (NRI) are coming for photo shoot. This is one of the biggest tourist place in mumbai. This is a very large scale business in mumbai. The planning here and the way to manage this business is awesome. People from far and wide come here to know about their planning and management. In today's era, people are coming from school and college knowing the strategy to manage business by reading and writing. The people here have maintained this business strategy since the youth of Baba Adam. Very small business are merged with this business due to which their livelihood is running.

It was so much tourist attraction place of Mumbai it's nearly mahalaxmi railway station and Jacab circles and gadge maharaj mono rail station, it's so much attrective place Some details of Dhobi Ghat :- Mahalaxmi Dhobi Ghat is an open air laundry place in Mumbai, India. It is located at Mahalaxmi railway station in southern Mumbai, it is also accessible from the Jacob Circle monorail station. The washers, known as dhobis, work in the open to clean clothes and linens from Mumbai's hotels and hospitals. It was constructed in 189 Overview:- There are rows of open-air concrete wash pens, each fitted with its own flogging stone. Claimed to be the world's largest outdoor laundry, Dhobi Ghat is a very popular attraction among foreign tourists. It is located next to Mahalaxmi railway station on the Western Railway's Saat Rasta roundabout. It can be easily seen from the flyover bridge of Mahalaxmi station. The Dhobi Kalyan & Audhyogik Vikas Cooperative Society, the apex body that represents washermen, estimates the annual turnover of the Mahalaxmi Dhobi Ghat at around Rs 100 crore. For 18 to 20 hours each day, over 7,000 people flog, scrub, dye and bleach clothes on concrete wash pens, dry them on ropes, neatly press them and transport the garments to different parts of the city. Over one lakh (100,000) clothes are washed each day. Some of the wealthier dhobis have given up on manual cleaning and have now installed large mechanical washing and drying machines. The dhobis collect clothes from all corners of the city, from Colaba to Virar. Their biggest clients are neighbourhood laundries, garment dealers, wedding decorators and caterers, and mid-sized hotels and clubs. Dhobi Ghat garnered a Guinness Book of World Records entry under ‘most people hand-washing clothes at a single location’ in 2011. In 2013, World Records India and World Amazing Records honoured World Record Certificate to Dhobi Kalyan & Audhyogik Vikas Co – op. Society Ltd The Saat Rasta Project is a proposed Public Space Project along the Bapurao Jagtap Road, connecting Jacob Circle to the Mahalaxmi Railway Station. This public space will connect to Dhobi Ghat, which is also a major tourist attraction. Home to the dhobis and their families (around 200 families), the Dhobi Ghat has seen this occupation passed down from one generation to the next. Also known as the Mahalaxmi Dhobi Ghat, it can be viewed easily from the Mahalaxmi Railway station. The best time to visit Dhobi Ghat is early morning and early afternoon. While the dhobis are in action in the morning to take care of the washing load, the early afternoons are an ideal time to see the clothes dry.

Be careful, if you are a non-Indian, you have to find the touristic entrance. Otherwise, everyone will look you as if you are an alien. Also, the neighborhood is a really poor one, be careful and respectful, I’d say. I went through very shady streets and even as a big guy, I wasn’t comfortable. However, inside, the people working there were so nice. As soon as you smile at them, they’ll smile back, ask you where are you from and offer you tea. Worth visiting

Good Experience Mahalaxmi Dhobi Ghat is an open air laundry place in Mumbai, India.[1] It is located at Mahalaxmi railway station in southern Mumbai, it is also accessible from the Jacob Circle monorail station. The washers, known as dhobis, work in the open to clean clothes and linens from Mumbai's hotels and hospitals. It was constructed in 1890.[2] The phrase dhobi ghat is used all over India to refer to any place where many washers are present. Inspired by the Mumbai Dhobi Ghat (then Bombay), the British built Dhobi Ghat in Kolkata (then Calcutta) in 1902[3] and there are other dhobi ghat places all over southern Asia. It is located next to Mahalaxmi railway station on the Western Railway's Saat Rasta roundabout. It can be easily seen from the flyover bridge of Mahalaxmi station.[4]

Dhobi Ghat is the world's largest open-air laundry. Here, hundreds of washermen and women – dhobis, work their shifts through the day to wash clothes. Porters bring dirty clothes from all over Mumbai and they take them back in their fresh, crisp and spotless state. The system is well-optimised, and each cloth is coded to be traced back to the client. This laundry was set up by an association of 50 washers in 1890. And today, around 700 washer families live here. And although some have installed washing and drying machines, most still carry on their work manually. Dhobi Ghat has maintained much of its old charm and washing methods.

If you have seen Bollywood movies you know Dhobi ghat. And even if you have not, Dhobi ghat is pretty famous in the world for a unique colony where thousands of clothes are dyed, washed , ironed in a day. All done by hundreds of workers working amazingly hard to keep up the pace. A lot of photogenic places around wih varieties of coloured clothes hanging and columns of water where people are seen washing clothes. It is approachable from the local railway station nearby and is 1 min walking from the overbridge. Do recommend you to visit once if you want to see this traditional colony of Mumbai

Definitely a must visit! The people staying there are extremely polite and helpful. However, I went there with my friend from Switzerland and at the entry-gate we were being asked to pay an entry fees for him. That wasn't the best to witness but nonetheless, the experience there and learning about that place was amazing!

Overwhelming amount of labor being done here. Washing in one machine, spinning in another, carrying the laundry in, moving the wet laundry to the drying lines, ironing. Everything gets a tag tied to it identifying the owner. Amazing.

Dhobi Ghat in Mumbai is a bustling and iconic laundry district that truly encapsulates the city's vibrant spirit. The sheer scale of this open-air laundromat is awe-inspiring, with rows of clothes hanging to dry and dedicated workers tirelessly attending to each garment. The authenticity and cultural richness make it a must-visit spot, providing a unique glimpse into Mumbai's daily life. While the infrastructure may seem basic, the efficiency and dedication of the dhobis contribute to the charm of this historic location. A visit to Dhobi Ghat is an immersive experience, allowing you to witness the heart of Mumbai's laundry industry in action.

Incredibly interesting place. This is how you feel the local culture. It's good to understand how things are done here and it's actually really interesting sight. Very known place on Mumbai and, if you ask me, a must go in India and this area.

Beware of guides guarding some entrances retrying to force you to pay. This is a mafia and these guys are NOT endorsed by the local workers. We went in without pay their fee and it was OK. Parasites like this are the scourge of India. Walking around and watching the work is fascinating. Don’t get in people’s way and don’t mind getting your feet wet.

It's very interesting to look at but only available from a distance. I realise that it's a workplace but there must be a way of mixing a visit experience as well - and potentially earning good income for the ghat workers. The juxtaposition of those enormous apartment blocks just beyond the laundry is quite interesting.

"Dhobi Ghat" is one of Oldest place in Mumbai which has historical background. This place is situated near Mahalaxmi station. Cloth washers and dryers are daily washing and drying clothes here. Dhobies are collecting clothes for washing Across South Mumbai and washing as well as drying here. Many families are earning from this, whole family is involved in this whole process. Many tourists also visiting this place. During Mumbai darshan it's definitely visit. I request everyone to visit this place and show to our family members. How whole family is doing hardwork here. Now traditional practish of washing clothes is changing, now many of them purchased washing machines and they started it from last 5 years. Changing dhobi ghat is one of the attraction here. According to me change is good. I hope you will visit this place and enjoy.

Hard working people, that’s for sure. And friendly. As travelers, we often hand wash our own laundry. But that’s not even close to what goes on here. Humbling experience to see this. We took a guided tour by one of the patriarchs. It’s all family-owned businesses doing laundry for any accounts they snag— like for hospitals or factories that need first washings. In return we made a “donation” of 500 rupees.

This place shouldn't be rated five stars as no slump should be. From a touristical point of view it's interesting to see and certainly impressive to see the worlds biggest open air laundromat. Nonetheless, the poverty one sees when wandering in Dhobi Ghat is terrible.

The place is a popular tourist spot and the previous government has made ample provisions to install a viewing deck overlooking the dhobi ghat space. Mahalakshmi station is right next to this place and is well connected. There is no parking space available nearby, so plan your travel accordingly. The viewing deck is small and will get crowded if large groups gather around.

One of the most memorable experience was to visiting the iconic Dhobi Ghat in Mahalaxmi. As soon as I arrived at this bustling open-air laundry district, I was struck by the sheer scale of the operation and the organized chaos that surrounded me The first thing that caught my attention was the vibrant colors of the clothes hanging everywhere. It was a feast for the eyes, with rows and rows of clothes hanging on lines, creating a picturesque scene. The different hues of t-shirts, sarees, and bedsheets brought life to this otherwise industrial areas A salute to all the hardworking dhobis (laundry workers), each one was fully engrossed in their work, showcasing years of experience and expertise I was amazed to learn that Dhobi Ghat caters to not only individual customers but also to hotels, hospitals, and other institutions, providing laundry services on an immense scale. It was fascinating to witness this vast operation happening in one place, with clothes being sorted, washed, and dried in an organized manner One of the highlights of my visit was getting a chance to interact with a few dhobis and learn about their lives and experiences. They shared stories about their families, the challenges they faced, and their pride in being a part of this age-old tradition. It was touching to hear about their dedication and hard work, which often goes unnoticed. Their commitment to their craft was truly inspiring As I left Dhobi Ghat with a newfound appreciation for the work of these unsung heroes, I couldn't help but feel privileged to have witnessed such a unique and vibrant slice of Mumbai's culture. The experience left a lasting impression on me, reminding me of the countless stories and lives that intertwine within this bustling laundry district Visiting Dhobi Ghat in Mahalaxmi was not only a visual treat but also a humbling experience that allowed me to gain a deeper understanding of the city’s rich heritage and the people who play an integral role in maintaining its fabric. It is a must-visit for anyone seeking to explore the authentic side of Mumbai and witness the indomitable spirit of its hardworking citizens

Interesting place for sure. If you are in Mumbai, you definitely should go there. We visited twice, unfortunately both times (11 am and 1pm) we could see only several people hanging the laundry. I suppose, if you want to see handwashing, you need to go there early in the morning.

Dhobi Ghat is a unique and fascinating open-air laundry in Mumbai that has been in operation for over a century. This 140-year-old laundry system, located in the heart of Mumbai, is a hub of activity and a testament to the hard work and dedication of Mumbai's washermen, or dhobis. The dhobis, who come from different parts of India, wash thousands of clothes a day, using traditional methods that have been passed down through generations. The clothes are soaked, scrubbed, beaten, and hung to dry in the sun, and the end result is fresh, clean clothes that smell amazing. Visiting Dhobi Ghat is a fascinating experience, as it provides a glimpse into the daily lives of the dhobis and their tireless work. The sight of clothes being washed and hung to dry on lines stretched across the ghat is a sight to behold. The ghat is a bustling hive of activity, with the dhobis moving around with their bundles of clothes, and there's a constant buzz of activity. The ghat is also a great place to take pictures, and the vibrant colors of the clothes against the backdrop of the ghat make for stunning photos. There are also plenty of street vendors selling refreshments, snacks, and souvenirs, making it a perfect spot for a quick snack break. It's definitely worth a visit for anyone interested in seeing a slice of everyday life in Mumbai.

It's a fascinating spectacle, looking down on row upon row of open-air concrete wash pens, each fitted with its own flogging stone, where Mumbai's dhobis [Washermen], around 200 families, work together relentlessly cleaning the dirt from the city's garments in a timeless tradition. Known as the world's largest outdoor laundry, the municipal Dhobi Ghat in Mahalakshmi is where Mumbai's traditional washerfolks provide a wonderful service, collecting dirty laundry, washing it, and returning it neatly pressed, all for a very small fee.
