One of the best, cleanest and awesome places to have a Gujarati thali. Very systematic, excellent loving service. They feed you like you are a family member. No valet parking plus almost no parking available so keep that in mind. Go on an empty stomach to enjoy it to the fullest. Lunch is preferable to enjoy it more.

I had heard about this place from my brother and this is my review after my first visit at this place. This must be one of the oldest restaurant i have ever been to. The food the good. The service was fast. There is waiting from 40 mins to 1 hour. You may not get parking as the place is congested. Overall the experience was Good but the cost was a little high but it was as per the locality you can say.

A busy and popular place with very friendly staff. We went on a weekday and had a slight waiting time. We were ushered in and seated. Different foods kept appearing. I particularly enjoyed the hot rotis and breads. To help digest all the delicious and rich food, I highly recommend drinking a lot of the cooling buttermilk (chaas). Great place to visit with friends and family. Just loosen your belt before eating!

Absolutely loved it. 5 stars all round. We walked in around 7.30 and nobody was there. We were a little worried. We paid 600 each and the fun began. They brought out so many different curries, flat breads, poppadoms, lassi, mango, curd and lots of dips to accompany them. The staff were so helpful telling us what each were. They would also offer us good advice on different pairings. Everything was delicious and the selection was brilliant. It was like a thali on steroids! Thank you

This iconic, famous place is recognised as an oldest place in Mumbai. Started in British era, specialised in serving patrons with typical taste of the traditional food, use of pure desi ghee, beautiful small alleys in at a premium location, Zaveri bazaar just few steps away, amidst in traffic oriented streets and heart of South Mumbai, are those points which proves why this place is famous in serving since that long. I never found anything to complain. Not a huge place to dine, no sophisticated architecture, simple wall, simple table arrangements, but yet everything was just perfectly placed. Probably the best गुलाबजाम I have ever had. Stuffed with cardamom and pure ghee. Likewise each and every dish made with so perfection and precision. Service was quick. Replenishment time was also fast. Very friendly and polite staff will make your experience worth visiting.

Not often can one like most of the dishes served in a thaali or a buffet, but there are a few places which can stand against all odds. Shree Thaker Bhojanalay is one of those few places. They serve Gujarati Thali, and each of the dishes stand out. I honestly do know the names of all the dishes, but right from the starters to the dessert... You are thoroughly treated to some amazing dishes. You might think the food is their core area, but I think it is their staff. They make you feel welcome and keep offering more politely. It's one of those places I would really like to return and it's worth a return many times. The food is served via a token system, so you have to take tokens first. It could have been 5 stars, but there is no provision for parking, which can be a bummer for a some.

If you want to enjoy authentic Gujarati + Rajasthani Thali this is the place. Awesome tasty food. Very courteous staff. Super quick service. Humble owner keeping check on requirements of each and every individual while eating is something beyond current restaurant trend. Had an awesome time here.

Have been a Thaker patron for years and I am glad to state that this restaurant stands behind its delicious thali which is a smorgasbord of farsan, chutney, dessert and mains. The service is epitome of Indian hospitality and grace. Thanks for serving the Mumbaikars over the years. Will be back🙏🏽

Historical Gujrati Thali restaurant located in streets of Kalbadevi! We went here for lunch on a Saturday afternoon. You have to watch through the street as this place can easily be missed, as it has a small entrance with dining hall on first floor. Place was decently crowded with a waiting time of approx 20 min. Thali was priced at 800₹. Thali here was good with multiple starters including dhokla, Gujrati vegetables, daal kadhi, rotis of bajra raghi wheat, Puri, buttermilk and sweets including Aam Ras and Basundi. Aam ras was next level and among the best you would find anywhere in Mumbai. They also had a fusion kadhi— mango kadhi, which tastes good. Best part I think in their menu is both spicy and sweet Daal and kadhi which you can choose. It makes this place more attractive to people preferring spicy kadhi and daal. Buttermilk and curd were of very good quality. Service is fast. Overall this place is among the best veg thali restaurants in Mumbai! Must visit I would say!

This thali never ceases to amaze you. One of the best Thalis you can have ever and ever. The owner themselves ensure that you are well served and you eat till you drop. The snacks, the rotis sabzi and the deserts; you will wish to have 2, possibly 3 stomachs. Its a real treat to eat here.

Most amazing thali I have ever had! Every item is delicious and best part is Mango kadhi, coconut pulao and aam ras. Best thing is the owners family gives personal attention to every table and even the staff feeds you with lot of warmth and love and force you to eat more. Interiors are great, good AC, decent seating, good washroom. We went on a Sunday and peak time 1.30pm so had to wait for 2 hours. Would recommend to reach by 11.30am or 2.30/3pm for minimal waiting time. The waiting area is open with couple of weak fans and wooden benches but once you eat the food it’s all worth it. ❤️❤️

Everything about this place is brilliant. Starting with the service - I honestly doubt there is anywhere you will get better service than this. The food is superb, and served by a whirlwind of waiters constantly topping you up with warm and fresh food, with a bewildering range of tastes. It is very busy, and it is a feat of organisation to maintain such high standards. I didn't even have time, or the inclination, to stop and take pictures. And by the end, all that was left was the custard, which I was too full to eat. It deserves its high reputation.

Excellent Gujarati - Rajasthani thali. Variety of mouth watering savouries, good hospitality. Sweets served, Aamras and halwa was excellent. Service is excellent. Restaurant is located in a crowded location. There is no parking available anywhere nearby. So better go by taxi. There is no net connection at all. When we used the credit card, amount is deducted from our account, but the restaurant manager insisted that the payment is not credited to their account and will be revered by bank to us. Finally we had to pay by cash. Now we are waiting for the reversal of payment.

Though they say it's unlimited, they refuse to put more than a certain amount of Sabji on your plate. I asked them to put more sabji, but they agreed to put only a certain amount! I was angry because this is not your home, where only a certain amount of a dish would've been prepared, to be shared by the entire family. How can these people restrict the quantity a person can eat!

Food is good but doesn't match the price. 1.They charge Rs 600 for a single unlimited thali, which is on higher side if your diet is average. 2. Contains lot of ghee in vegetables, pulao. 3. Curry and vegetables are sweet (as usual for Gujarati).🙁 4. Seasonal vegetables are not served as much as 4 types of curry (Kadhi). This is too much. However, it's worth trying once if you are fond of Gujarati Kadhi.🙂 Location of bhojnalaya is in crowded part of Kalba Devi.

I have been visiting Thaker Bhojanalay for past 35 year. Clearly remember when Thali was Rs-35 on a weekday. Pay on the ground floor then take a token (billa) and give on second floor dining hall. All the chairs and tables were lined along the wall and no AC. Best Thali hands down no question from all angles Price, service, quality and variety. This continued for couple of decades with price increases within limits and inflation. Things have changed and here is how....Prices have gone up way too much, quality has decreased, service is a hit or miss and variety is just same. So higher price and lower quality, this has become more after COVID. Had a Sunday Thali, definitely not worth Rs-700. Not sure if COVID is to blame but not happy to see this happen to my favorite Thali place. I hope and pray things improve. Will visit again one more time and see where things stand.

I visited this place last month. Two words. Absolutely Incredible! A highlight of my entire India trip. The food is amazing and varied, and with small portion sizes, you have the opportunity to try every dish in the house. It's all you can eat, silver serve style. Big shout out to the owner. I was the only British/western person in there and he took the time to explain every dish to me. Service was fantastic. It isn't just a restaurant, it's an experience! Must try if you're in Mumbai!

Thaker are famous for their food as well as make people wait for hours in line. We have returned back twice without eating . Even in this covid situation they make people wait for more than an hour for take away. We left without out order. I wish they were more organised in planning for huge crowds. Also there is one man who answer call for query is very arrogant.

An absolute flavoursome vegetarian fare, the appetisers, desserts and the buttermilk make it a divine meal. Post the pandemic, we visited this eatery on Saturday and loved every bit of it. Scrumptious Indian veg Thali - For quite sometime, we were thinking to feast on the best Gujarati thali in Mumbai. So finally visited Shree Thaker Bhojanalay, started in 1945 and they serve this unlimited and also one of the biggest Gujarati thali. I was surprised to see their quality and quantity of food, it was simply delicious. For a while, I thought I am attending some big fat Gujarati wedding with loads of foods. Perfect assortment of delicious food in one platter. From Chutneys, Starters, Main course, Indian bread, varieties of rice and yes not to forget the Gujrati desserts, all did justice to each and every penny you spent. So a must visit place if you have a love for authentic Gujarati thali and you are in Mumbai. Price per person - 800 Rs/- All days

They say that places that serve delicious food often have simple surroundings. Located right opposite a school, Shree Thaker Bhojanalay is in a cramped building off an extremely busy street. Amongst all the boards, you’ll spot this one easily though. Walk into a fairly old and dingy alley, and take a flight of narrow stairs to the first floor to reach the restaurant. Once inside, you’ll forget everything that you saw outside the restaurant. Air-conditioned restaurant with ample seating space. However, the crowd will make you feel otherwise. You’re greeted with a huge wall of celebrity photos who’ve dined here. A confirmation of their quality food. Talking about the price – I’ll be frank here – it costs Rs 600 per thali. I was actually stunned to hear the pricing for a simple Gujarati Thali. The Gujarati Thali at Shree Thaker Bhojanalay costs Rs 600. The flavours, they were authentic. Each and every dish felt homecooked and the masalas were mellow. I judge a Gujarati Thali by the consistency of the Gujarati Kadhi and this was spot on. Even the sweet dal was perfectly done. The curries were rather simple but complimented the dal and kadhi perfectly. Bowl after bowl and phulka after phluka, I relished each and every morsel of phulka with kadhi. Worst experience! We found a stapler pin in the meal! It terrifies me what if one of my family had injested the staple pin! & When we complained to the staff, no one said sorry nor replaced our thali, but they insisted their quality is good, & they even charged us for premium thali! Devoid of any unwanted flourish, Shree Thaker Bhojanalay is a canteen-style eatery hidden in Kalbadevi, South Mumbai since 1945. Serving what is arguably the best thali in the city, come for their vibrant homemade Gujarati delicacies. Chang and Ansari begin with Dal Baati doused in Ghee (a traditional Rajasthani delicacy of oven-cooked wheat balls served with lentils), followed by Surti Undhiyu — a concoction of root vegetables, eggplant, banana, dumplings, coconut and fenugreek, garnished with fresh green garlic. Attentive servers pool ladles of vegetables and dal into multiple bowls, the pit of which will play hide-and-seek throughout the meal. Their Aamras and Khichadi have earned them accolades — undo your belt buckle and dig in.

We had lunch here after almost two years ! The first bit of good news was the poster announcing that Surti Undhiyu was on the day's menu !! The thali lived up to its reputation. Superb food ( some of the best Undhiyu I've tasted !!), Very courteous service, food served "as much" and an effort made to serve it hot ! The decor is simple and unpretentious, but seriously ,who cares? It's very clean, the food is tasty and the service is of a high standard. Two years later, still an awesome experience!! Not waiting two more to go back !

The vegetarian fare was very spread out and diverse, with actual varying tastes of each item. Usually places that specialise in Thali system have a common taste of almost all items, but this place was wonderfully different. The staff was also efficient and brisk. We read that many celebrities have dined at this place... Do go if you get a chance

This restaurant located in lanes of Kalbadevi & they have best of Ambience with near and clean tables & they welcome with traditional namaste and smile on face.Entire staff is very helpful & they serves you with smile & make you eat more then your diet😜. Food quality is more then 5 star as you will feel that you are having home made food which is very lite & yummy. The spread of thali is vast with lots of food options from welcome drinks, starters, main course, sweets, etc sorry can’t write about food taste as each dish was very yummy so it will be unfair to to give some particular dish more points. Best place with best of best food & varieties.Must visit

Excellent food, lovely service and ambience is typical for an old gujarati thali place. They've renovated and is now quite big. Lot of variety in the thali, as also the sweet version and the non sweet (a little spicy) version. Of course, it is well air conditioned and has clean and decent waah area including wash room facility. Social distancing would be a challenge in a restaurant, but they're there with the masks - up, most of the times.

We reached there when it was time for them to close during afternoon. We were the only family in the entire restaurant, that too ordering just two thalis. However, they warmly and patiently kept serving and made us feel comfortable even though it was well past their closing time. Food: Well above our expectations. Impeccable preparation, great variety and authentic taste. Ambience: Nothing too posh, but clean environment with a rustic old city feel.

Beautiful Thali - extremely good service - rates are surely on the higher side - reaching the place is an uphill task - fail to understand why don't they change their location - recommended place for Thali lovers 👌👌😍😍

Excellent gem in mumbai. Traversing through the narrow and hustling and bustling streets to get there is an experience in itself, reminiscing the old trader's Mumbai it was back when I used to visit as a kid. The food, the people, the service is another level up. If you are vegetarian, you have to go. If you never had Gujarati/Marwadi/Rajasthani style good, you have to go. If you appreciate hospitality, you have to go. Check out the rating and pictures if you need further proof.

Great place to have authentic thali, a mix of Gujarati and Rajasthani delicacies. Everything is served piping hot. Easily beats all the other Thali restaurants in Mumbai. Simply the best, that's why many celebrities still continue to visit this place. Just remember there is no parking and also the approach road is very congested. It's about 500m from Metro cinemas. So would recommend parking at khala ghoda parking, then take a cab who will charge you 100rs to this place which is 15 minutes away.

Kalbadevi visit is incomplete without treating ourselves to a Gujrati thali but it was only recently that we got to try the super famous one at Shree Thaker Bhojanalay. One can easily miss the humble entrance amongst the many food joints nearby, so keep your eye out for it. However, once inside you'll be surprised with the comfortable seating area and the crowd this place attracts. The exhaustive thali has a wonderful spread with multiple namkeens, vegetables, types of chapatis, sweets, dal, two types of kadhi, chaas and what not. The waiters are on their toes and serve you with care and attention. Be prepared to overeat. We paid 800 INR for one thali since it was weekend and also Ganpati celebration time. Seems steep, yes, but one doesn't have such food everyday and it's an experience to remember. Happy to have ticked it off my list!

Best place for lunch if you crave for the variety of dishes and are super hungry😋. Most of the time cuisine is Gujrati+ Rajasthani. Must try if you are with family and fond of multiple options (like food served in king size thali)

On a lazy Sunday morning when it was pouring rather heavily outside, I decided to travel to the other side of town to visit an iconic place, @shreethakerbhojanalay which had been on my must visit places for a long time. Travelling through the narrow congested lanes of Kalbadevi, I battled with mixed emotions and kept questioning my decision. The excitement of finally visiting the place with fellow food lovers and getting a hot homemade meal served to me overpowered my concerns- Will the food be oily or sweet? What if I ended up wasting food?etc We arrived first to avoid the crowd and sat in for a rather early lunch. The large empty thalis were intimidating for someone with a small appetite. Yet the posters of ''avoid food wastage" intrigued me. For many food joints that serve unlimited food put them up but actively did nothing about it, but this place was different. The service started with a wide range of flavourful papads, chutneys & pickles. Then came the 4 sabzis ranging from dry, semi-dry to gravies. 2 types of dals and kadhi- sweet or savory, followed by different rotis- phulkas, puris, bhakri, and biscuit roti. Lastly, we had the classic white dhokla and pakoda along with the desserts- shrikhand, amras and moong halwa. Surprisingly, none of the food was oily or super sweet ( not even the desserts). In fact, each of the items was unique in flavour, aroma and textures, so much so that apart from the occasional incidents of guessing certain ingredients in a dish, there was hardly any talk at the table. But here was the best part- the food was served in a certain order and just enough to tingle the taste buds and that kind of helps you decide what one liked, thus reducing wastage. The staff asked for preferences ( sweet or savory), especially when it comes to dals, kadhis, desserts and they remember them. If you ask for a second helping, they get a fresh and hot serving. Lastly, nothing was forced upon or rushed. It was a memorable experience with empty plates, full tummies, content hearts & a lot of food for thought & conversation.

This is an institutional restaurant for some of the best Gujarati thali in the city. It’s been around since the mid 1940s and continues to serve some really authentic and absolutely delicious Gujarati food. If you’re visiting, come really hungry. You might have to wait a bit depending on what time of day you’re there. Usually gets busy between 1 and 2 pm on any given day. Though things move pretty quickly and systematically here. The service is warm and friendly and they always make sure to check on you to see if you’ve eaten well. Don’t make plans after this meal, as you’ll most likely want to go take a long afternoon nap soon after!

I was thoroughly delighted with the lunch I ordered from the hotel. The flavors were exquisite, and it's clear that the chefs put a lot of care into crafting each dish. The presentation was impeccable, and the food arrived at my doorstep still warm and fresh. The portion sizes were generous, making it a satisfying and fulfilling meal. It's evident that the hotel values not only the taste but also the quality of their food. I'm truly impressed by the seamless delivery experience and the attention to detail in every aspect. This meal from the hotel was a wonderful culinary experience that I'll eagerly look forward to repeating.
