Awesome place, nice greenery view from top of this hill. This historical site is maintained under the Geological Survey of India. And the entry fee is taken by them for travellers is 25 rupees for each. It's another name is Kondivite Caves. This Buddhist monastery consists of total 19 caves, out of which 15 caves are in line & to the south-east side and left 4 caves are opposite side of that small hill. The largest volume of the cave is cave 9, where lord Buddha and some fellow figures are sculptured but all are mutilated. A Buddha stupa is in there also. It is the most holy place out of the all the caves. The whole place is very neat and clean and there are drinking water place, bio toilet and sitting chairs also available in the green garden in front of the caves. From the evening time they do not allow any traveller to stay inside the caves area.

I was expected a mahakali temple there. It will be a beautiful place if the tourist officials and authorities give a little more care. There are many caves under ground as well as in ground levels which is designed like different rooms. Now that place is not good for a solo visit. I couldn't see a temple over there. The road to the place is not in a good condition. But bus transportation and autoriksha are available there. Now it is a place where couples can use to spend for their private moments. And I really didn't want to spend my time there more than a half hour. No entry pass. No security and not safety at all. But the place is beautiful

Centuries old cave complex which happened to be an eminent Buddhist monastery. Not much of the artifacts are intact as they are taken away. Few carvings are still visible and the architecture of a Buddhist prayer hall and the Meditation cubicles are still there. The beautiful view of powai area is mesmerizing from the hill top. One has to scan a QR code to take tickets which is just Rs. 20/-

The place is known as Kondivite Caves or Mahakali Caves. These caves are there since the time of the Ashokan Empire. These very famous caves from Mumbai are a group of 19 rock-cut monuments built between 1st century BCE and 6th century AD and served as a Buddhist monastery back in those days. These beautiful caves are carved out of a solid black basalt rock. The 9th cave is the largest cave from this group which has seven depictions of Buddha and figures from Buddhist Mythology. There is a Buddhist stupa situated in one of the caves. There were the writings on the wall in the Pali script and some wall sculpture but most of them have been damaged with the time. The caves and the surrounding greenery of these caves is very peaceful and pleasantly beautiful. Drinking water and washroom facilities are available inside. To visit these caves, there is a provision of direct buses by the BEST from Andheri railway station. The place is open on all days to visit. Visiting Timings: 09:00 AM – 05:00 PM. Entry Fees: Rs. 20 for Indian citizens. Clicking photos and videos with mobile phones are allowed inside.

Great architecture which is 2000 years old. Great initiative by the government to preserve the heritage site. Must visit this place once with family and friends. The shiva linga is the point of attraction and stands almost 10 ft in height.

There are beautiful carvings here. There are Buddhist stupas in a cave. There are online sites where we can get a ticket just at 20 rupees . Best season to go there is winter because in rainy season a path is very slippy.

I recently had the opportunity to visit the Mahakali Caves, and I was amazed by the ancient beauty of the place. The caves themselves are a wonder to behold, with their intricate carvings still visible on the walls. It is hard to believe that these caves were created over 2,000 years ago and yet they remain standing as a testament to the skilled craftsmanship of our ancestors. The natural beauty of the surrounding area was also a highlight of my visit. The peaceful atmosphere and the greenery that surrounds the caves make for a perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of modern life. Although there was no guided tour available during my visit, I still found the Mahakali Caves to be a truly captivating and enriching experience. If you have an interest in history or ancient cultures, or if you simply want to find a peaceful place to escape to, I would highly recommend a visit to the Mahakali Caves. It is an experience that you won't soon forget.

It's pleasant to visit these caves at any season and any weather. These single store carvings of caves, rooms, Homes, Halls, Statutes and every thing using a single rock. It's a brilliant piece of art from the ancient Indian society which looks likes it was being designed by an architect having every thing well planned and proper on its place. Ticket is 20 Rs. Per person and you can book at online by scanning the QR code displayed at entrance gate.

It has total 22 caves. It is nice experience. It has stupa in it. Some caves are there is a room inside it. It's little deserted sometimes, may scare few. Overall experience is good for history readers, history explorers, a piece of history in sight. A top view of the surrounding area from up the caves (climbing on the caves is forbidden 🚫). And sitting also.

A perfect example of how a heritage site should be maintained; Clean & Green. You have to book the entry ticket online via scanning the QR code at the gate. The charge is Rs.20/-. Cash is not accepted. There is no official parking space, but you can park 2 wheelers to the right of the entry gate. The caves are maintained well. I was happy to see no plastic clutter or garbage. The garden adds a beautiful contrast to the caves and offers a good vantage point for SEEPZ and Powai. You can spend about 30 mins exploring the caves and rest of the time relaxing in the garden. It is not crowded and very peaceful on weekdays. Though the official closing time is 5:30 pm, the gaurds close the place by 5:00 pm.

This place is located around 3 Kms away from Western Express Highway Metro station. There are BEST buses servicing these routes. This is an archaeological place which preserves the monolithic caves built and used by Buddhist monks. There are series of caves in this location which are partly destroyed. Some of them are reinforced to prevent further destruction.

The suburbs of Mumbai hide several groups of unique monuments – ancient rock-cut temples. One such monument is the ancient Kondivite Caves, later known as Mahakali caves. Mahakali caves are 19 rock-cut caves, built between the 1st century BC and 6th century AD. They are cut in black basalt. Unfortunately, the caves are on the verge of collapse. The Caves For, Two Rows:- 4 caves from 4th to 5th century AD on the northwest face of the long hillside. 15 caves – towards the southeast The largest cave (cave 9) has seven depictions of Buddha and figures from Buddhist Mythology. This Buddhist monastery is located in the eastern suburb of Andheri.

The Mahakali Caves, also known as Kondivita Caves, are a historical and archaeological site located in the Andheri area of Mumbai, Maharashtra, India. These ancient rock-cut caves date back to around 1st century BCE to 6th century CE and are of Buddhist origin. The caves are carved out of a basalt rock face and represent the Hinayana tradition of Buddhism. They consist of Buddhist viharas (monasteries) and chaityas (prayer halls). The architecture displays intricate carvings, decorative motifs, and pillars, reflecting the craftsmanship of the ancient period. The site has 19 caves in total, but not all of them are well-preserved. The main cave, Cave 9, is the largest and most significant, showcasing intricately carved sculptures and chambers.
