Gaondevi Temple beside Gilbert Hill

Tourist attraction Hindu temple

👍👍 Gaondevi Mandir is one of the two temples built atop the Gilbert Hill, a 61-metre high monolith structure in the Andheri West area of Mumbai formed over 60 million years ago from the deposition of moldten lava. It is in the danger of getting collapsed due to the unplanned erection of buildings here... People often mention temple, hill, Mumbai, steps, view, visit, Andheri, good, Temple, climb,

Gaondevi Mandir is one of the two temples built atop the Gilbert Hill, a 61-metre high monolith structure in the Andheri West area of Mumbai formed over 60 million years ago from the deposition of moldten lava. It is in the danger of getting collapsed due to the unplanned erection of buildings here. The Gaondevi Temple is on top of this hill can be accessed by taking stairs that have been carved out the rock. The beautiful temple, made all in white, is dedicated to Goddess Durga and also has a garden with lush green grass. It's a perfect place for peace seekers in the heart of the bustling city. The views of the whole city in a complete panorama is ideal for some nice clicks too.

This temple is located on top of a 66 million year old rock hill called Gilbert Hill in Andheri West. There are about 100 steps to climb to reach this temple of Goddess Durga. Also worshipped here are Lord Hanuman and Lord Ganesha. The sunrise and sunset are a beautiful watch from here. The place is not crowded as of the year 2019. You may find flowers to offer to the God at the first climb of the hill. The neighborhood is unkempt and non very developed.

A MUST VISIT place in Mumbai. Location: Andheri West just 5 mins walk from Recreation Club to the base of the hill. The Gilbert Hill is a geological wonder as it was formed 66 MILLION years ago. It is about 200 ft high but has good steps to reach the temple on top. The approach road from Recreation Club or Bhavans College is really bad. There are 2 stalls selling Pooja Thalis. The steps were not very difficult to climb & were just like the steps in buildings. We climbed the steps in 20 minutes taking many breaks but young & fit people can climb in 10 minutes. On reaching the top of the hill, all the exhaustion of climbing simply vanished on seeing the beautiful temple. The temple is simple & surrounding area is peaceful & well maintained & has washrooms too. The temple itself is well maintained having Gaon devi, Durga Devi, Ganpati Bappa & Hanumanji. The view from the top of the hill is AWESOME. You can see the sea of Juhu, both the operational metros, literally the WHOLE Andheri, Jogeshwari & even some part of the airport & planes taking off too. Actually you even see the Kohinoor Square of Shivaji park during sunset when the reflection of Sun's rays fall on the glass of the building. Overall, it is a MUST visit hidden gem of Mumbai.

The only reason I'm giving 4 🌟 is because of the way leading to it. The road that connects to the hill is pathetic, don't walk pls take an auto. But once you start climbing up you'll feel amazing. The temple is beautiful. Surely it's my favorite temple in Mumbai, me being an architect by profession always feel very peaceful at this temple. It feels you're In Mumbai as you can experience flights taking off from the airport, the building, the sunset but the peaceful vibe this temple has is something definitely not experienced in Mumbai. The staff ( panditji ) are friendly and always positive. You can easily spend 1hr here... The ambiance is amazing the trees planted are very well maintained. I love this temple. And I'm happy it's underrated.

A very nice experience, in the middle of the town, a temple on a black hill. I took a path through an almost Islamic neighborhood, quite an essence of Mumbai. The quite on the top of the hill is the opposite of the dinamic life of the neighborhood.

Just near Andheri station 850 m from Andheri station, Durga Devi temple is so beautiful and the view also. Only 100 to 150 steps to reach top. Temple is on Gilbert hill one of the oldest hill in Mumbai, formed when molten lava was squeezed out of the Earth's clefts during the Mesozoic Era about 66 million years ago. You can enjoy sunset from here. Please keep this place clean 🏞️

If you have to believe what is written and read about this monolith which is 6.6 million old, then it is awesome. Just 200 ft height. And there is a temple of Gaodevi right at the hill top. There are good nicely built stairs. While interacting with flowerist, I was told that appointed days are Tuesdays and Fridays where a large number.ber of people visit the temple. There are two ways to reach there - one opp Bhawan's college and other is from SV Road side.

Very nice place. One can relax for the day here. Nice mild breeze is there through out the day. The mandir is in nice condition, very well maintained. The nearby area is also good. They have made water arrangements for the visitors as well. The temple closes at 12pm in afternoon and again open at 4pm. Down the temple you can get all you want.

While I hate to give only "2 stars" to a large basalt rock that is supposed to be 65 million years old, it's just because the road to get there is dirty. In addition, the steps that lead to the temple at the top of the hill have broken due to the heavy rains so there is no access. The guard at the foot of the steps said there will be no access for at least a year

A nice peaceful temple atop one of three monolithic mountains of the world! The temple is neatly maintained, there is a cold drinking water basin. The view from up here is simply awesome. Experience it to feel it.

Amazing place after a tiring climb of steep stairs for atleast a height of 250 feet. The views from the above are good. The other good thing is the 66 million old rock near to it which is unknown to many. Some temples can be very crowd but thanks to the steep and difficult ride there seems to be less riders.

Getting there may be cumbersome with some walking along narrow densely populated ones and a steep climb of stairs. However it’s serene and calm at the top. Can spend time. Nice temple. Nice view. Worth visiting.

Temple premises and steps Excellent and clean. However, the slums before the temple steps start and an eyesore. The stench is unbearable. The government should do better to make this heritage site by making a better clean access road. Then mataji will bless all.

Great historical and spiritual vibes of the 6.6 billion years old heritage. You will find a clear view of Mumbai City from top of this hill as it's surrounded by slums and buildings all around. The place is well maintained. When I had went the place was under renewation so I prefer to visit mostly at the end of year 2020 because may be by that time the work would have completed

The access to the top of the hill is currently restricted as a part of it has withered away due to rains in Mumbai this year. Climate change or BMC. You decide.
