ABSOLUTELY STUNNING!! This place is a trekkers dream. No matter if you are a beginner or experienced this trek will have something for you. The trek starts with a steep road that quickly goes into a very enjoyable plain where you can see monkeys.

The trek broadly consists of two parts - From start point/base to Peth village and then from Peth till the top. There is a rough road that leads to Peth village from the base. This is not usually motorable although villagers and some folks use SUVs and 2 wheelers to reach Peth village. So better to park private vehicles at the base and begin your hike. This rough road is at a gradual incline till the village. Will take around 1 hour depending on fitness. The village eatery here offers some basic food items. From Peth village, the hike to Kothaligad is steep and rocky taking another 45 mins. At the top there are two cannons, some water bodies and the steps cut into the top spire which is really commendable work. Nice views from the top. Driving from Mumbai takes some 2.5-3 hrs by road...so plan your day accordingly. I noticed that many of these reviews here don't give the true picture of how to reach this place from Mumbai via car. We started driving from thane and took the Panvel, borle bypass route. It takes around 2.30 hours to get there and in Google maps, just put kothaligad fort. It will show you the correct roads to get there. It shows an RZP school pingalas location just before the actual fort village route which is perfect. Now once you reach this location, you will find a small parking spot on the left at a very small incline after you drive for say 200metres. You might also find one two forest guards and a villager at that point. This point is actually the base of the village on the mountains. My very sincere advise is to park your car at this point if you have a low end car like wagon R, alto etc as the drive after this point to the village is very steep and importantly the road is full of stones and gravel. You will unnecessarily risk a vehicle damage as its much too much pressure on the engine and the friction on the tires which is not worth it. But if you have an SUV, go for it and you can drive up to till the base of the village. We started walking from here and reached the village in say 1.5 hours from here with enough breaks and photos in between. It's damn scenic as the village itself is on the mountains, walking is tiring but damn rewarding especially with friends. Then after reaching the village, we took some refreshments and then started trekking to the actual fort which took another 1.5 hours. Now this part is even more awesome as you literally have to walk through thick mountain jungles to reach the fort. At many places, you will need to climb as walking is no longer possible. On the way you can see the remote village life and once you reach the summit, you have a cave where you can relax and a small bhairav temple which feels like natural Air condition.

It was a nice monsoon trek. The difficulty level of the trek is medium It took us 2.5-3 hrs to reach the top, half an hour to 1 hour to explore the top and 1h 45 min to 2h to get down. If you are going from Mumbai to reach starting point you can board a bus from Karjat east bus depot. It is 5 minutes walking distance from Karjat railway station. Catch the bus going to Solanpada and ask the conductor to drop you at Ambivali village. The morning bus time is 8:30 In the evening the bus time is 5:30 pm. You can also go by taxi if you miss the bus. Bus fare is 55 per person. After reaching Ambivali village you can see hotel Kothligad. You can have snacks there and start the trek. When you start there are 2 roads take the first left which is ascending one. Keep walking the road until you reach the plateau. It will take 1-1.5 hrs to reach the plateau. From here where you can see the waterfalls and the Kothligad. It is a nice place to click photos and has scenic views. Resume the trek and after 10 minutes you will reach the base village, Peth. There is one hotel(Bhairavnath Bhojnalay) take the left from here and keep walking the road From here to reach the top it will take another hour. Some part of the trek is muddy so it's recommended to wear proper trekking shoes. Once you reach the top fort base you can see the Cannons and beautiful views 😍. From here there is another small trek having an indoor staircase to reach the top of the fort. When you reach the top just explore all fort the views from the top are amazing. Watching fog, waterfalls and views was a heavenly experience 😇. A must-visit Trek in monsoon.

One of the easiest Trek of Bhimashankar range, the summit can be reached from the base in an hour. Although the altitude gain is quick, it can be done with good breaks. The road to peth village is really bad, right now only off roading vehicles can reach upto peth village, else people have to park it in the plains.

Good trekking experience The view from top is heaven.. On the way u can also enjoy a waterfall Till peth village the way is pretty straight (typical hill station road with lots of turns and slopes sans vehicles). From peth village actual trekking starts. Its an awesome trek from thereon (not very difficult but yes a bit strenuous). We reached the fort (the top) in an hour and it was all scenic view from there, cool breeze taking away all your sweat

Nice trek. We measured 22000 steps appropriately 14kms to and fro base point (gopal sawant hotel) Bike can be taken till a point, but it's better to experience full walk. In between after the Peth village you will get nimbu paani and buttermilk for Rs 20, there is one more hotel at village Peth. But it's better to have it at base. Carry water, shades etc. Some awesome views from the top and some real good info about location.

A sweet easy and nice trekk Has a long walk way and a short crawl up. Vehicle goes up till peth village..but one has to be really experienced with a proper wheel base vehicle..else park at the parking and walk up. The fort up has caves and water tanks.. The carvings are beautiful but worn-out with time.. Amazing views enroute.... Best place to stay over and camp for families and friends.. Best time will be during monsoon to experience the amazing views..!!

Superb trek. Amidst the lap of nature and serene with silence. The temple on the top is of utmost relief and peace of mind due to the cold floor in the mountains. Loved the trek

Mesmerizing view on the top of the hill. You'll have to hike for about 1.5-2 hours to see the beauty and the jaw dropping landscape. It is worth going to the top with friends and family. There are also many resorts near the hills. For the best experience, go during the monsoon season, but take care to not go just after extremely heavy rainfall as some part of the hill becomes muddy.

Cold Air....Dark rainy night... Warm fire.... Bright stars.... And a trek up the hill.... Is all needed to win a fort..... Nestled in the famous Bhimashankar wildlife sanctuary near Karjat, is a small marvel of architecture called Kothaligad. Kothaligad, also known as Peth fort, rises to a maximum altitude of 2,033 ft and was primarily used as a watchtower & ammunition depot by the ruling armies. The strategic location of the hill provides a commanding view of Padargad, Malanggad, Siddhagad, Chanderi fort, Bhimashankar & Matheran plateau in clear weather. On reaching the top of the fort, we see caves carved in huge rocks. Along the Bhairoba cave, steep steps are carved leading the pinnacle. Small water tanks and some cannon balls are scattered on the fort. The first one is the cave of Goddess, besides which is a water cistern and the last one is the specious Bhairoba cave. A flat floor and well-sculpted pillars are specialties of the cave..... The locals say that this is not actually a fort but a sort of lighthouse from where the directions were given to know the advancements of the enemy. In fact, it can be called a watch tower to keep a vigil on the Mawal area in the greater province of the Maratha... Not much was known about the history until the 18th century but as per the carvings seen in the fort’s caves, and temples, it appears to belong to the 13th century. In 1716, the fort was seized by British from Mughals. Later on 2nd November 1817, it was recaptured by the Marathas under the leadership of Bapurao who belonged to the generation after Bajirao...... Its an easy but very long trek, not risky but can be very tiring as its a lot of climb especially the last part. Its actually a beginner trek for people below age of 30 or 35 but its a moderate trek if you are above 35 so attempt only if you are regularly doing treks especially people above age of 35 or so..

My 7th trek in Maharashtra was a pleasant experience, suitable for beginners as well. It took about 3-3:30 hours to reach the top from Ambivali village. The base village of Peth was beautiful, and we enjoyed our breakfast and lunch there. The trail was easy to navigate, with slippery sections at the fort's summit. On the top, you will find water tanks, intricately carved caves, temple, and cannons placed since the 13th century. Surprisingly, the fort was clean compared to others, and the crowd was manageable on weekends. During monsoons, the trek offered glimpses of waterfalls and fog. Highly recommended.

    (Translated by Google) Kothligad fort is also known as the fort of Peth. The fort is situated in the Bhimashankar range, about 20 km northeast of the city of Karjat. To reach this fort, take the Ambivali fork at a distance of about 15 km from Karjat on the Karjat-Murbad main road. From here you can take your vehicles to Ambivali village (6km). From here Ambivali to Peth village can be reached by approximately 3 km dirt road. The locals use bicycles for daily commute. So we too can reach this place, i.e. Peth village with our own vehicles. You can also get shared rickshaws from Neral station on Central Railway to Kashele and from there to Ambivali. After entering from Peth village, an eerie sighting is observed at the beginning. From here, after climbing for half an hour, we reach the ruined gate of the fort. Near this main gate you can see the remnants of the ramparts. If you walk further, you will come across the largest Bhairoba cave on this fort. The cave can accommodate 15 to 20 people. The cave has carved pillars carved all over the stone. If you go out, there is a small temple of Bhairoba. Next is the darshan of Gadganapati carved in stone. This is followed by steps carved into the rock from the womb of the fort. After climbing these steps, we reach the highest plateau of the fort. Before that you get to see a well-maintained door. There is a large water tank on the upper plateau. There are also many water tanks around the cave. A total of fourteen water tanks can be seen on the fort. There are also special guard areas on each side of the fort. Apart from this, two cannons can be seen on the fort. From this fort you can see a wide area like Prabalgad, Vikatgad, Chanderi in the west of Matheran range. On the east you can see Bhimashankar Sanctuary, Padar Gad, Dhak and Maval area. The ascent of this fort is easy to moderate and the best time to visit this fort is after the monsoon season i.e. September to March. With a little care, this trek can be great even in the monsoon.

It's simply magical! Stunning views of Bhimashankar , Matheran , several other peaks on all sides. The landscape is breathtaking. We went by car, take the shedung exit from expressway, pass karjat phata and it's a 1 hr drive from there. The first 1.5 hrs of the trek is very easy, just a road and some trails. Do stop at the selfie point for fun pics. Once you reach the village, you are already tired from all the climbing. But that's where the real trek begins. From here there's no road but a mountain path with is steep in patches though not dangerous You can enjoy a beautiful cave with carvings at the top of the mountain, a temple and a shrine. Thete are also two cannons. The last bit of the trek, where the fort begins is steep and slippery. But doable and exhilarating fir regular trekkers. It's a marvel of architecture as the steps have been carved out from a single rock. Trek is not very difficult but quite long. Takes easily 3 + hours to reach the top with halts, another 2 hours to descend. But Nature is at its best and you will be happy to spend the whole day there. Highly recommended!!❤️

This is not the place wherein you can visit during monsoon especially for the actual trekkers. The frogs who comes out only during the monsoon they can visit anytime because there is a difference of purpose between the actual trekkers and monsoon frogs. The reason behind not to visit monsoon because it gets foggy everywhere and you won't be able to explore because of that.No doubt about the nature and scenic view, its astonishing and beautiful. There some waterfalls too but need to be very cautious. If you have a bike or car you would be able to reach at base village and then it's hardly take 45-50 mins to get on top. Beginners definitely can think to start with this fort. There are some cannons and water tanks and temple in a huge cave. The cave acquire big space and people can stay there easily. Lastly it's a beautiful fort to explore history.

Pls note that when you go to kothaligad peoples of forest department charges you 50 or more than 50 rupees to each for as entry ticket or forest maintenance but don't give them more than 20 rupees and don't forget to take receipt from them because one native villager told us that charges are only 20 rupees to each which is decided by both villagers and forest department.

It is a nice trekking route; me along with some of my colleagues rain-trekked the Kothaligad; starting point to tip of the fort distance is 6.5 km; there are some very stiff patches in the route, specially at the end. Nature’s beauty is abundant here. Clouds, rain, green trees, small water springs all were present along the route. We did cleaning-drive while returning from the peak. We collected so much of used plastic water bottles from the roadside. So I request all who are planning to go to Kothaligad or any other place, please don’t litter the place with plastic garbages.

I recently had the pleasure of embarking on a one-day trek to Kothaligad, also known as Peth Fort, located in the Karjat area of Maharashtra. This trek is an ideal choice for beginners and offers a simple and easy trail that can be completed in under three hours, making it a great option for those seeking a quick adventure amidst the stunning natural beauty of Maharashtra. Kothaligad's base village shares its name with the trek itself, adding to the charm and authenticity of the experience. If you have a vehicle like a Thar, you can easily reach the base village directly. However, if not, you'll have to walk until you reach the village, which may add some extra time to your journey. Once you begin the trek, you'll find the trail to be relatively easy, making it suitable for beginners and those with limited trekking experience. The marked path ensures you won't get lost, and the gradual ascent allows for a comfortable and enjoyable hike. As you ascend to the summit, prepare to be captivated by the breathtaking views that unfold before your eyes. The panoramic vistas from the top of Kothaligad are simply mesmerizing, providing a stunning display of Maharashtra's natural beauty. The lush green valleys, rolling hills, and the distant skyline create a picturesque backdrop that makes the entire trek worthwhile. One of the highlights of the trek is reaching the pinnacle of Peth Fort. Standing atop the fort, you'll feel a sense of accomplishment and awe as you take in the magnificent surroundings. It's a perfect spot to catch your breath, savor a packed lunch, and marvel at the sheer beauty of nature. In conclusion, the one-day trek to Kothaligad, or Peth Fort, in Maharashtra is a delightful experience that is well-suited for beginners and those looking for a relatively easy trek. The trail can be completed in under three hours, ensuring a manageable and enjoyable adventure. The base village, although requiring a walk if you don't have a suitable vehicle, adds to the authenticity of the journey. The stunning views from the top are a sight to behold, and the overall experience is certainly worth the effort. I highly recommend this trek to anyone seeking a memorable outdoor adventure in the scenic landscapes of Maharashtra.

Fantastic place for a one day picnic. The trek level is moderate according to me and there are 1-2 spots which were dangerous. Reaching the place you can either get down at Karjat or Neral station. We got down at Karjat station from there we walked to the ST stand and got the Solanpada bus scheduled at 8:30 from ST stand you can also easily get a taxi/tamtam. We got down at Ambivli from the bus and started our trek there are multiple restaurants at the start and even in the middle of the trek from which you can order your food. There are waterfalls in the middle of the trek where you can relax and have good views. It takes around 3-4 hours to get to the top and 2 hours to get down. There is a cave and temple at the top and from there the trek to the peak is a bit dangerous. While returning you can also catch the bus to Karjat station which is scheduled at 5:30 or a taxi/tamtam. Overall you must visit it once during the rainy season you will love it.

To reach till the base villlage of kothaligad there is nice road ahead of karjat. You can take your car up on off roading route if you have high ground clearance car or else you need to climb/walk that distance which is a long route. After the village on plateau there is a climb again. Best part is the stairs engraved inside the thumb shaped pinnacle. Those stairs are steep & narrow (bit risky for newcomers). As we are in clouds, we can't have a nice view from top but the feeling is worth all this effort. There are stalls of lime water & maggi in between the trek. Also a Cave before the thumb part. You can change your clothes at the base village, they charge 20rs per person. Overall a nice trek to go in the rainy and winter season.

We visited this place on a weekend. The maps will show you ride till the base camp, but your regular two wheeler becomes tough to climb on the ghat kind of road, a 4 wheeler will reach till it. We parked our two wheeler 3kms away from the camping site and walked further. The trek is easy level, you have stalls in between for water/lemon water, as the trail is from a small village in between. The top view is good. Would recommend to go in rainy season for better view and trek as it was too much sunny for us in December too.

Nice for one day trek. It is very difficult to stay in the caves on top due to BATs. Very smelly and can not stay inside for long time. Cave is sufficient for 25-30 or even more people but in the dark RATs and BATs makes it very difficult to stay there.

The place is wonderful only weather should be in your favour and easily you can reach, but who has breathing problems should be taken care of. Please wear only those shoes which has good grip while trekking.

So basically it's not a fort it's a postguard According to me it's a nice place to trek during rainy season ⛈️. It was nice and good experience to trek here it take us around 2 and a 1/2 hrs ⏲️ to climb till the top and 2 hrs to climb down at a very slow pace. the mountain so if your planning trek to kothaligad🏕️. try that you start climbing the mountain in the morning so that you can enjoy the most beautiful view at that that I wish I could give this fort 5 start but at the top there is not much monument it just have 2 cannons at the top beside that it's a good place to trek From the top of mountain you can see Views ✅ Cleanliness ✅ Clouds✅ Monuments 🆗 Shops ✅ ( only during weekends they are open ). Thankyou I Hope this review is helpful for you .

This was supposed to be a monsoon trek but unfortunately that day it was hot 🔥climbing all the way up.due to no rains situation..Fortunately some parts due to heavy vegetation and the mountains around Provided relief in the form of shade. All around it was a feast for the eyes with different shades of green draping the mountains and the earth below. A fantastic experience requiring medium endurance...and definitely some amount of physical fitness especially towards the last part of the climb. A must trek for nature lover. There was bottled water, limbu sherbert and kokum juice available.all along the way so one does not need to carry it along. All in all a very good experience 👍

Bikes can reach the base village but Riders need to be skilled and careful during monsoon season. There is a lot of mud and loose stones on the road.

More of an outpost than a fort but good trekking experience and view from the top. Peth villagers take of providing refreshments at a price along the route. Apparently the old water tanks are supported by mountain springs and never dry up.

Kothaligad is best for beginners who want to start Trekking. no much risky , you can also visit this place with your family. Don't try to stand at edges of this fort , as we all know this fort is more than 300 years old. there is chance to slip from edge of this forts. stones are not tightly stucked. Forest are taking 50 Rs / Person but not maintaining this fort.

A watch tower and an ammunition storage fort is Fort Kothaligad. It was occupied by Shivaji Maharaj during his regime. The view from the top of the fort makes one mesmerized the pinnacles of other forts in the region. 2 canons from the history are preserved and repaired and can be seen here. An old Kal Bhairav temple is located in the main cave of the fort.

Peth (Kothaligad) is small fort near Karjat, on the top of the fort there is a pinnacle. Pinnacle is carved from inside and has steps to reach on the top. View from the top is amazing.

It is actually a Trek for beginners, but worth visiting.During old times it was a base for storage of weapons. If you are planning to stay in the night, it is possible as there is a big cave room here. Also there is a village at the base where you can have your lunch.Overall a great trek.

Very good experience . I would say it is a easy trek for a beginner like me. Not entirely easy though. Just normal walking and no tough terrain paths. At the top , there will be a climbing challenge and it won’t be for faint hearted if you look down . Apart from that everything else is easy. Small shops for refreshments throughout the trek. Very beautiful scenery and even better if it rains a bit.

(Translated by Google) Kothligad (Peth Fort) is an important fort located at a distance of fifteen kilometers from Neral. During the reign of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, this fort was used for making weapons, hence it is called the arsenal of Swarajya. The climb of the fort is easy and there is still a lot to see on the fort .. The ramparts that stand as a testimony to history ... Mahadarwaja ... Those bastions still stand in their beauty. Friends, if you ever have time, visit once. If you are fond of off-road riding then you can cover about 40% of distance through vehicle & get to the village directly. If four wheeler (4×4) recommend.

One of the best treks to go in rainy season and very close to Mumbai. trek is very scenic and covered with greenery everywhere around the fort. In the Base village you have good options for lunch, they serve both Veg and Non veg food. Its a 3 hour trek but a moderate one, you will definitely love the place. do visit in Monsoon season.

    (Translated by Google) The fort is huge, it is small but it is very strong. Recently a new entrance has been installed on the fort by Sahyadri Pratishthan Karjat.

Kothaligad is very good for treaking during rainy days and winter days, you get very beautiful view of Sahyadri, Padargad and Nature. At fort you will see caves, stone stapes, and fabulous stone art (दगडातील कोरीव काम), every treaker should must visit Kothaligad for his beauty,
