The Bird Watching Area is closed for 3 months in the monsoon but the salt pans outside flood during the high tide and there are plenty of birds there. I visited it in the afternoon on 13th July 2021 and saw 25 species of birds including a massive number of cormorants, painted stork (adult and juvenile), little grebe, striated heron, green beaters, baya weaver, Asian pied starlings, common kingfisher and the most common - egrets. I was even lucky enough to spot a flock of over 60 flamingos in flight.

Best place to see flamingos through ferry in Mumbai. One can explore the creek in a boat ride where one can observe a large number of lesser and greater flamingos along with various other birds Besides the commonly spotted species such as the common egret, pond heron, coppersmith barbet, oriental magpie robin, weaver bird, golden oriole, common kingfisher and common cormorant, one can see species such as the painted stork, greater and lesser flamingo, black-headed ibis, eurasian spoonbill, black-winged stilt.

Good Place for a walk in Nature. The issue is....come November, Govt starts charging Rs. 50 per person for entry. If you have a camera, be prepared to shell out another Rs 100. To take a two wheeler inside, another Rs 50 and if its a four wheeler, another Rs. 100. It really discourages tourism as Govt has really done nothing to develop this land or the sanctuary. This is the over commercialization that is killing tourism in Maharashtra. I am uploading the latest entry fees as put up by Govt. of Maharashtra.

Bhandup pumping station is an unique biodiversity right in the middle of the largest city of India, Mumbai. The city's geography which is cut by 2 creeks (Thane creek from the south and the Vasai creek from the north) has lead to the formation of a mighty mangroves system. This not only helps the city from being submerged by tidal flooding but has become a breading groud for many different species of birds, reptiles and also insects. Bhandup pumping station is in the heart of this ecosystem and is attracting a lot migratory and non migratory birds over the years. Of late it has also become a must go for photographers and naturalist from all over the city. There is a nominal entry fees of ₹50 per person and ₹50 or ₹150 for taking your vehicle. ₹100 is charged as camera fee. There is also a jeety at the end of the road where you can hire a boat which will take you in and around the creek, the price wary and is upto you negotiation skill. An early morning visit will not disappoint  you at all and you will get to view a variety of birds and reptiles specially in the winters. Few birds which I had the opportunity to click are different kinds of herons, storts, egrets, white throat and common kingfisher, koel, coucal, parakeets, bee-eaters, sunbirds, bulbuls, doves, mynas, sandpiper, stilts, swallows, Gulls, cormorants and of course the flamingos. Other than this lizards, snakes and lot of butterflies. Overall this place has a significant values in whichever way we think and we should do whatever it take to protect it from the destruction caused by human beings.

Great place to spend a Sunday early mornings to witness the migratory birds and enjoy the nature with your family and friends. We have been to BPS several times and every visit brings some surprise. If you are a keen lover of birds, you can budget 2-3 hrs in BPS. Since this place gets too crowded during wkends, you may not even get a parking space. So early visit is always recommended. Since nothing is available here, carry enough water, some mild snacks, dryfruits and most importantly mosquito repellent and be prepared for some insect bites too. Great place to inculcate the habit of birding to your children.

This is not actually bird watching centre. Some birds are coming only in specific season like flamingoes. Otherwise only some eagles and regular birds are seen here. This is located near creek, narrow road is available for going till end. Nice and peaceful area you need your private vehicle to reach till end. Good for just roaming and photoshoot purpose. May be not safe for single person to go there . As it is far from locality. We were visited this in place off season so we just do some photoshoot here. So i will visit here again When flamingo season gets start.

Awesome birding place in Mumbai. Always all year around there is something for everyone. Haven for photographers. Very surprised to find such a place in the middle of India's busiest metro. Early morning visit on weekends is awesome. You will find at least a 100 or 200 photographers, bird watchers, college students.

Very fascinating place. Number of amazing and colorful birds species can spotted here. One of the peaceful and silent places in the city. It takes about 5 - 10 mins to reach from station, walking may take max 15 mins. The entire walk in the bird watching area would take +2 hrs (with spotting and capturing birds). The local boat safari would charge 50-100₹ for a 45min ride. If you are into birding, birdwatching then this place is a must..

The sanctuary is around 23 kms from my place and is situated near Bhandup Pumping Station. Entry fee is Rs. 50 per head. No camera fees. Cycle, bikes and cars are allowed inside, cycles are free, bike Rs. 50, car Rs. 100. Time required for sight seeing is around 1 hour 30 mins. Common birds seen during winter are Greater flamingos, Painted Storks, Stilts, Cormorants, Greater Egrets, Pond Herons, Purple Heron, Night Herons, White and Black Ibis, Spoonbill, Sea Gulls and other birds which are usually spotted in marshy lands. Bulbuls, crow pheasant, drongo, coppersmith, bee eaters, munia etc. can also be spotted. Overall a good experience.

Awesome place for Birder in and around Mumbai. The place is located close to the Eastern Express Highway, and is below the aroli brigde. One can take a entry from highway traveling towards Bhandup from thane. It's 10-15 mins walking from Nahur Railway Station (Central Railway) or travel by bus and get down at pumping station stop. From the main gate the sewage treatment plant is 2-2.5 km inside so it will be more convenient if one has his own vehicle (two wheeler will be a better option) and the other walker can enjoy the salt pans located on the left side of the road while walking in and beautiful flower garden on the right side. The best season to visit the pumping station will be after the end of monsoon from October to Mid February. And the best time to visit will be early morning i.e. strating the trial around 6am from the main gate. The place has more than 291 species of birds and various types of garden lizards and arthropods including butterflies can be spotted. Best place for the nature trip or for short excursion for students of zoology and wildlife. One should carry plenty of water and some light snacks or food (please do not litter around) and if possible should carry binoculars and a check list of bird and any birding book on indian subcontinent. I will suggest Grimmett birds of Indian Subcontinent book which very well illustrated and handy.

This is such an odd place to visit, very remote. When you speak to locals that are non birders, they would be shocked at why you would want to spend the day out here. But I have been twice now and I can tell you that it is very much worth a visit for the whole day. There is an abundance of birds here in various spots so well worth walking around a few times looking for the various birds out here. My suggestion is not to be dropped off at the end but to be dropped off just after the houses and walk the rest of the way, there are an abundance of birds to be seen on the walk along the road. I myself have seen many small birds like Barbets, bee-eaters, weavers and many other smaller birds in the trees along the road before getting to the ponds. There is also some paths that run off to the side of the road at the bend where it will take you to close to the smaller ponds that are behind the main lake. Here I have seen a couple of kingfishers and a few different types of waders at a close range.

Heaven for Bird watchers / Photographer in Concrete Jungle of Mumbai !!! Located on outskirts of Eastern Mumbai Suburb.. A. How to Reach.. By Train : Get down at Nahur Station on Central Railway. Go to East Side. You will get shared Auto upto Eastern Express Highway (EEH). From there you have to walk for 10 mins to reach the entry point. By Road : It is just on EEH. B. Entry Fee : Initially it was free. But nowadays there are below charges Entry Fee : 50/- Car Parking Fee : 50/- for 2 wheelers, 100 for 4 wheelers Camera Charges : 100-200 C. What to watch As per Ebird site, there are 241 bird species observed till date. Main Attraction is Flamingos. Bird of Prays. There is boat ride available. But need to book one day before. D. When to go Generally Winter season (Nov-Feb) is good for watching all migratory birds. Check tide timings before going. i.e. two –three hours before high tide, for this is when the birds come closest to the shore, where they feed. Otherwise you will missed. Go generally Early morning (6:30 onwards) to avoid afternoon heat. E. What to carry A Good Hat, 2 Lt water, A good Walking shows as you need to walk almost 2 km to reach the main spot. Binocular Camera Take small snack with you as there is nothing nearby to eat. Enjoy the nature, Do not make noise and disturb the bird

It's a paradise for bird 🐦 watching. Migratory birds usually come in large numbers during winter season. The magnificent of all the birds, Pink Flamingos 🦩 are also spotted here. It's a nice forest trail walking of abt 1 to 1.5km from the entry gate. It's free entry for morning walkers upto 8pm otherwise rs50/person is charged. One can take cycle inside and enjoy the ride in beautiful forest. Early morning is the best time to visit this place. Request you not to carry ur vehicles inside the forest as it disturbs birds and drives them away from sighting.

Very nice place for bird watching for Mumbaikars. If you are professional, please reach there before sunrise 6:30am or 7:00am. Avoid going on holidays and weekends. To understand complete area, you need to visit at least 3 times. Mark your spot to capture them in-action. Best for Bird watching. Firstly try to reach there early morning, preferably before 7 a.m. if you are clicking pictures, as it becomes too hot later on and the images also don't appear good because of the harsh light. A paradise for Bird lovers. Many species under one roof. Try to park your bike or cars at the start and walk and enjoy the the nature, as you might scare the birds away.

It’s an amazing place to visit, also ferry something is started. Only problem is the roads(route) are bad and small and it’s very silent place. It’s a place where you find animals which are in the verge of extinct like leopard. There is a a safari that is organised by the national park. But you will hardly find any animal. But it is a huge park and anyone can take a nice troll in the park. In a place like Mumbai it is very difficult to find such a huge space. There is also one lake inside the park and one can take a boat ride there. Many few people know about this place which makes it very clean and peaceful but it’s unsafe for women alone to go there and there is low or no network and no one to help in case of emergencies. One can spot white rare birds, some places there stink but it’s a good place to do chill with friends or loved ones. Carry enough water and food. In mumbai it is hard find a hugh park so if you love nature some treaking within a city then give a try to this park. I personally love the park you can hire the cycle aswell in rent. While cycleing you may be encounter the small animals romaing opeanly on the street and jungle. Green lungs of Mumbai One of the best places to visit if you are fond of nature... My gateway to relax and absorb the beauty of nature. One has to keep left on highway and take left before the service road starts and enter into a small road and continue till end until you see electricity board gate and take a left from there into the jungle to reach that place, roads are small but smallcars and activas are preferable. Remember it’s always hot there and no other facilities are available so be prepared. It’s not even a bird sanctuary but rather a sightseeing point where once can spot such birds, which is rare in this polluted city. Also once has to be brave to travel to a place which is silent and scary sometimes.

Super 👌 place for quiet stroll and birding. Its getting popular so can draw crowds on holidays. It smells in some areas (but that's to be expected). It may not be very accessible post rains as there is a portion of the way that's a dirt track and so close to the marshes its likely to be flooded. There is an entry fee (nominal and a good idea too). No food, water or facilities once in.

Magical view of sunrise and all kinds of birds. A walk in the mangrove forest is possible and is recommended to have a closer look at the habitat and the flora and fauna.

  • 5/5 Nabeel A. 4 years ago on Google
The Beauty and bird life is priceless. But only avoid a weekend if you want to not be around picknickers, photoshoot gang, and college gang who just came to hangout there. The lake is very rich is waders and sea birds, but the mix habitat of bush, wetland and swamp is a treat. Highlight of the trip today 12/01/2020 was the Eurasian Marsh Harrier and Lesser Flamingo. Although the strength was very few and in a juvenile stage. Try go before sunrise so that you get the place to yourself and with avid birders. It's great to see the numbers of birders increasing and feels good that people are picking up this hobby. It is a spot in this city which needs to be preserved.

Place is peaceful however government has started entry charges of RS50 from November 2020. Which as per me is not worth it. If you are changing then ensure there are public toilets and cleanness of the entire place is maintained.

Very easily accessible from Eastern Express, the trail is next to the Creek. You get to see many birds including egret, kingfisher, baya, harriet, bulbul. It is a popular trail with birders. The trail leads to a jetty, from where you can get a boat ride to watch flamingos. Plan for at least 2 hours for the trail and another hour for the ride. Carry your water and snacks, there are no shops at all. No restrooms either.

I visited this place on two consecutive days in winter - once during the morning low tide and once nearing evening high tide. Reasonably decent approach road (except for a small stretch). There is a ferry service that also supports bird watching, but it plies only during the high tide. I did not use the ferry. The canal that runs parallel to the main road also supports some bird species. While I expected a lot more bird activty here (considering it is supposed to be the best hotspot in suburban Mumbai), it was a little disappointing. That said, there were about 60 species like flamingos, gulls, terns, spoonbills, a few garganeys and teals, stilts, godwits, sandpipers, kingfishers, golden orioles, warblers, barbets, etc on both days which was still a good experience.

One of the birding hotspots in Mumbai. It has got varied habitat. Grassland, saltpans, little forest patch and creek shore. A birder can make checklist of 50 birds in a visit
