It dates back to the 13th century where it used to be the centre of Warsaw’s public life, hosting political speeches and executions. The buildings around it were wooden at the time, but what you can see nowadays dates back the 15th century. Today the market square offers a wide range of good restaurants and cocktail bars as well as street art and souvenirs.

A beautiful part of the city, and when you know that everything was destroyed after World War II, it is impressed that the reconstruction has been made so that it still looks very old-fashioned.

Consider that this is a total reconstruction after WWII, and very well done. While it might look like in ancient times this old town centre is now nicer and cleaner than most others throughout Europe.

Stare Miasto, as it is called here, is the crucial point of the city of Warsaw, a very well-kept historic centre, with buildings in characteristic pastel colours, full of streets with shops and clubs, very popular and lively.

Certainly during the Christmas period, even well into the Christmas period, colors and magic give that extra touch..

I am from Warsaw and have been born less than a kilometer from castle square. How could I not love and recommend this place. Quite touristic during season - warsaws old town is like no other. complete destruction during WW2 let the historians to rebuild and reconstruct in very coherent XVIII century style. All later amendments, additions, styling were cleared to this pure early renessaince form characteristic to this part of europe. Very clean, minimalistic style yet true to historic paintings is quite unique. Must see. Great in spring for fresh air and green vistula river overlooks and in winter for christmas markets.
