The gigantic Metronome occupies a symbolic spot on the map of Prague. It was directly on this spot that a gigantic monument to Joseph Stalin overlooked the city. It was demolished by dynamite in 1962, many years after his death. The seven-ton Metronome was installed in 1991 and was meant to be a symbol of the new era. The area surrounding it is now a paradise for skateboarders.

Very cool and huge metronome with a great view of the river and the city. The park surrounding it is very nice too.

Metronome is not currently working. Cannot find any explanation. Metronome is a simple mechanical design - ie no engineering or artist talent was required. Very unspectacular. Area covered with graffiti with a threatening atmosphere. Don’t bother.

(Translated by Google) To see from the bridge Two solutions go up on the site to take advantage of the view over Prague. Otherwise to see the metronome stay on the Cechuv most bridge. The metronome has replaced the huge statue of Stalin. For which symbol, mark perpetuity over time (Original) A voir du pont Deux solutions monter sur le site pour profiter de la vue sur Prague. Nice place with impressive view. In summer evening are happening culture events. There are located beer pub Stalin, for drinks. Entrance is free and available for every one. For my prague visit, this was the most memorable place and event. Place is not visited by tourists and it's possible feel local vibe

Free city view! You have to climb up many steps to get to this place. Metronome does not seem to be in working condition but it provides a place fir people to hang out. Lots of people at night so it is safe. People drink and talk here. Sometimes they play movies here too so it can be a movie night. I thought the Charles bridge will light up but it did not probably due to construction. Regardless, still a great view of the city!

The metronome itself isn't worth the trip, it doesn't seem to work and it's fairly run down. The view here however is what really makes it worth to come here, it definitely has one of the best views in all places in Prague. The park itself is very communism like, very big but empty and now in very bad state, graffiti everywhere and it seems like skaters have set up some ramps. If you have the time left, then drop by for the view, otherwise skip out on it.

The monument itself is unique but not beautiful by any means. You should come here for the fantastic view of the city, it’s worth the climb up!

Amazing sight to see, but it did not appear to be working while we were there. The graffiti was distracting and unfortunately took away from what could have been a lovely ambiance overlooking the city.

(Translated by Google) To the metronome you need to walk a little up from the stop. The park itself is not in the best condition ... A plus is the observation deck, which offers a panoramic view of the old town. (Original) До метроному потрібно пройтись трохи вгору від зупинки. (Translated by Google) The time machine on Letná, known to many only as the Metronome or the Pendulum, counts down the time in Letenské sady at Edvard Beneš's left-bank embankment directly above the mouth of Čech Bridge. From 1955 to 1962, an infamous monument to dictator J. V. Stalin, mockingly called the "meat front", stood in this place. Its value was 140 million crowns at the time, for which 42,000 cars could be purchased at the time. He stayed here for only seven years, in November 1962 he was only with great difficulty and was shot three times. In 1991, the Metronome, created by the sculptor and professor of the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design Vratislav Karel Novák, was installed on this position. Although it really resembles Mälzel's famous reverse pendulum metronome, its mechanical construction is completely different. The metronome, which the author named "Time Machine", is almost 25 meters high and weighs 7 tons. The pendulum could not be installed by crane due to concerns about the disturbed statics of the pedestal after the blasting of the Stalin monument. That's why he was replaced by a giant helicopter. The mystery remains according to which rules the metronome sometimes swayes and sometimes does not. The place under the metronome is especially popular with skaters and skaters who like to train here. The best way to get to the giant pendulum is from the Čechův most tram stop (no. 17, 26) and further up the stairs to Letná. Or from the Sparta tram station (No. 1, 25) and then on foot through the Letná park. You can also get to this place from the Chotkovy sady station (trams 12, 18, 20, 26), but then you have to cross Letná over a short footbridge.

It wasn’t moving which I thought it would be but this must be a specific event which you should come along for. However, the walk up is hard work but worth it for the great view of Prague. Up the top is an area great for skating if you are interested or just to watch the athletes do their thing. The metronomes size and history are impressive and worth a visit!

An unusual monument but I can't say it's a a beautiful one. Until 1962 there was a huge statue of Lenin here. The place seems to be a meeting point for locals, especially young people, to hang out. Talking about beautiful views of the city, there are several points in Letna Park that offer a much better view.

The Prague metronome is located at the Svatopluk Čech Bridge just a short distance from Old Town Square and Paris Street. There is a pendulum and a beautiful view of Prague and it towers, Vltava, Hradčany, Prague bridges. Beautiful place and very romantic, so for lovers it is very ideal for a walk.

A very beautiful place. The ascent over the stairs is hard but is rewarded by a wonderful view over the city and the bridges. I can really recommend that.

Fantastic view over the city center from this high point of view! A lit of teenagers skateboarding there which was a bit annoying when we wanted to cross from one side to another and just about every wall if covered in a big layer of graffiti, which is a shame!

This is a vibrant place with overflowing youthful energy. It's hands down the best spot to hang out on a summer evening with a beer and watch how the city transforms from day to night. The Stalin bar below serves drinks. In summer you can even enjoy musical performances here. At night it can get quite crowded here. As a visitor I'm very happy that I just randomly came across this location. Highlight of my Prague trip!!!

Not that much to do, but a very nice view, we sat under one of the fire pits all the way up next to the metronome. Drinks are pretty cheap up there at the bar and a lot of alternative skate culture there!!!

The climb is short and the reward(view) is grand! Come up here for a nice panoramic view of the city and its bridges. It is definitely worth it. There’s a bar playing techno music so you can grab a drink here too.

One of my favorite public spaces in Prague. If you go to the museum of communism you can see what the site looked like prior to the metronome and learn more about the history.

Its a fantasic viewpoint looking down Parizska street to the old town square. The metonome was where once the Monument for Stalin was erected. It was built 1962 to remind the Czechoslovaks who the real leader is. The Statue was blown up and 1968 the UssR invaded. Now its visited by skaters and teens having a good time or two!!

  • 4/5 Le Ngoc Anh N. 10 months ago on Google
The view from here is breathtaking. You can see all of the Prague 1 e.g. Old Town Hall and to Žižkov to the Žižkov Television Tower. However, I feel that the place is bit unkempt and in a bad condition. There is litter lying on the ground and there is graffiti everywhere. It's a kind of art, but I think it really ruins the impression of the place. It would be nice to clean it and replace it with some other graffiti that might be related to Prague for example or just leave it clean.

I had a great experience visiting Metronome in Prague. The journey there was really chill and easy, making it convenient to reach. However, I would note that it can get a bit hot during summer days. Despite that, the overall atmosphere was fantastic, and the views from Metronome were breathtaking. It’s a must-visit spot for anyone looking to enjoy the beauty of Prague and its iconic landmarks. I highly recommend checking out Metronome for an unforgettable experience!

  • 5/5 Lea 11 months ago on Google
The metronome is a super nice place to go to, especially in summer. It offers among the best views, if not the best, over Prague. In summer it’s super nice to just hang out there, bring some friends and drinks and enjoy the view or watch the skaters. At some point during summer there are also DJs playing there (no entry fee or anything, it’s just on the lower part of the viewpoint), which is also worth a visit. A small minus would be that the monument itself is nothing spectacular and the area, as others mentioned, could be a bit more cared for - but I guess that’s also part of the character of the place.
