This was so fun to visit and watch! On the hour, the little, glass windows at the top open, showing the different apostles/saints rotating behind the clock face. The clock sits in the middle of Old Town Square, so it was pretty busy both times that I went. On the hour, specifically, it was pretty challenging to get close to it as people wanted to watch/listen to the chimes. It's worth it, though! This quirky clock is definitely a must-go if you are visiting Prague.

Beautiful views from the observation gallery. I was lucky enough to visit while the Christmas market was open. Highly recommend going after dark because Prague is beautiful at night. But please try and avoid going during the weekend or on holidays because the narrow gallery gets absolutely packed to the point where it’s nearly impossible to move. Also, IMO it’s not worth paying the elevator surcharge because it’s a pretty easy climb fir anyone even moderately fit.

Prague astronomical clock is located in Old town square with many historical structures like Gothic Church of Our Lady before Týn, St. Nicholas Church and so on. This clock is attached to the Old town Hall and was first installed in 1410, making it the third-oldest astronomical clock in the world and the oldest one still in operation. (Amazing!) It seems it works very complicatedly with astronomical dial, statues of various Catholic saints or so. Hence please refer to any other good sites explaining in detail if you want to know further (^^) What is really famous is that there is an hourly show of moving Apostle figures and other sculptures, notably a figure of a skeleton that represents Death, striking the time. (please check with my movie attached) To see this tremendous performance of the clock, hundreds of people gathered but they soon found that this show ends quite quickly if they just arrived just after show began. (So I think recording it is something mandatory to review it again.)

Nice building inside and out and when watching it chine out on the hour, the crowds to gather quite quickly outside to get the best views (not a lot happens on it but it is fun with the little skeleton pulling on the chain, etc). Inside can be busy and waits for obtaining tickets was a few minutes for us so nothing major. The views from the top of the clock tower were very nice to which you can either use the stairs or there is also a small lift too. The underground tour of the site is bookable and runs at certain times depending on what language you want the tour in. We only had to wait an hour for ours but there is plenty to do in the vicinity of you need to go away and come back at a later time.

This review is only for the workers here, as I couldn't go up to the tower. People so, so rude. There was a system error so you could only buy with cash. They clearly told me there was no problem at all with cash. So I go to withdraw cash to the bank (not a single one close) and when I came back, another worker told me that that was false, I can't buy with cash now. What happened between those exact 20 minutes? Who knows. Maybe they didn't feel like working at all and wanted to go home early (this was 17:30 by the way). Not a single sorry for lying to your face. Nothing. Just a "fork you", we don't care. Update: up to 3 stars, because the views deserve better rating, the rest still applies. It's perfect at sunset, so you can view the area by day and night if you wait. The rooftops at sunset are great to look at. But you get pretty much the same (plus the bridge itself) views facing the Castle from Charles Bridge and surroundings. You don't gain anything extra from the height though.

Unfortunately I didn’t do enough research to fully understand what only a walk by would have me missing. It’s a beautiful building but make sure you take time to walk around and see the clock. Buy the tickets and climb the stairs. This is one of the oldest mechanical working clocks still working today. So fascinating.

An absolutely must see for everyone who's visiting Prague! I highly suggest to go on the top and take photos/videos because you can get a great view of all the city from 4 different sides. The price is 12 € if you choose to use steps instead of elevator (they're very easy to climb). You can also visit the historical interiors of the building.

The clock is stunning, you should absolutely not miss visiting it when in Prague. I also loved the atmosphere created by it, even if some might complain that is crowded because a lot of people will gather to see "The Walk of the Apostles" I think it just adds to it's charm and makes it a really special event to be there and admire its beauty and sanctity. It's the oldest astronomical clock still in function and you can enjoy viewing it while savouring a local beer in the pubs and restaurants located near by.

What a magnificent time piece located in very very busy area of the square. It is an impressive apparatus. I was not aware you could enter the building as there seemed to be lots of groups standing in from of the clock, outside, been spoke to by numerous guides.

PRAGUE is my Mother city ...what can I say except it takes your breath away with versatile architecture, from Medieval through to Baroque, Gothic, Neo-classical, and much more. Like a crown is the famous Castle perched high on the hill overlooking the whole city which emanates a magical fairy tale quality. I know Praha like the back of my hand as I have lived there with my half-sister who was born there and speaking fluent Czech makes Prague my second home...I will share some pictures from my many stays which should wet your appetite enough to visit this ambient city with amazing food, beer of course, and the Czech jazz musicians either in Night clubs or in town squares ,or on the famous Charles bridge are world class! There is so much to explore and discover !

The Prague Astronomical Clock is an absolute gem that should not be missed if you find yourself in this magical city. As a lover of history and architectural marvels, this intricate timepiece left me in awe from the moment I laid my eyes on it. Located in the heart of Prague's Old Town Square, the Astronomical Clock is a true masterpiece, combining both scientific precision and artistic beauty. Its construction dates back to the 15th century, making it one of the oldest functioning clocks in the world, and it has become an iconic symbol of Prague. Every hour, onlookers gather around the clock to witness its captivating performance. As the clock strikes, various figures come to life, depicting the passing of time and the movements of the celestial bodies. It's a delightful spectacle that truly transports you to another era. The intricate details and craftsmanship of the clock are simply astounding. From the meticulously designed dials indicating the position of the Sun, Moon, and stars, to the mesmerizing procession of the Twelve Apostles, every aspect is a testament to the skill and dedication of its creators. The Prague Astronomical Clock is not just a timekeeping device; it's an embodiment of the city's rich history and cultural heritage. It's remarkable to think about the generations of people who have marveled at this marvel over the centuries. Be prepared for crowds, as this attraction rightfully draws many visitors. However, the experience is well worth it. Take your time to observe the intricate details, soak in the atmosphere of the square, and appreciate the intricate engineering that has kept this clock ticking for centuries.

The free guided tour in English was excellent. The guide was very knowledgeable. The tour brought you to the cellar, where you can enter only if you’re on guided tour. The whole tour was fascinating and the guide gave us a great overview of some of Prague's history. Come early to get 50% off entrance fee. Guided tour is free. You have to pay small sum of money to take lift to the clock tower, but the view from the top is amazing. Overall worth the money.

Brilliant views of the old town from the top. They have put in a modern ramp to go up so it is no cramped and easy on the legs. The clock is great - had a short guided tour which helped understand it! Also the rooms in the building are quite nice to see.

If you are interested in old architecture, this area is incredibly exciting to visit. It is nice, clean and cozy here. There are a lot of restaurants in the area, cafes and bars, so there are many places to sit and relax. There is a good atmosphere here, but also many tourists. 5 stars from me. ☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️

This clock is absolutely amazing a true historical wonder. The place is always packed with tourist who are trying to get photos with the clock. The clock is in the heart of the city. The astronomical clock tower gives you some beautiful views of the city and is worth a visit. You can get a good deal for about £8-£9. The clock tower has a lift or option do walk up so if you have children in a buggy you don't have any issues going to the top of the tower. There is also medieval underground you can visit well worth a visit. There are lots of food places around the astronomical clock and food is pricey around this part of the city. So it is worth checking out prices before buying food. Overall 5/5 the astronomical clock is breath taking.

The Orloj is mounted on the southern wall of Old Town Hall in the Old Town Square. The clock mechanism has three main components — the astronomical dial, representing the position of the Sun and Moon in the sky and displaying various astronomical details; statues of various Catholic saints stand on either side of the clock; "The Walk of the Apostles", an hourly show of moving Apostle figures and other sculptures, notably a figure of a skeleton that represents Death, striking the time; and a calendar dial with medallions representing the months. According to local legend, the city will suffer if the clock is neglected and its good operation is placed in jeopardy; a ghost, mounted on the clock, was supposed to nod its head in confirmation. According to the legend, the only hope was represented by a boy born on New Year's night.

Wonderful experience! Looking at the statues moving, at the top of the hour is a wonderful experience . The panorama from the belvedere of the tower is stunning and the guided tour of the dungeons was great. Kudos to Jan, the guy who walked us through, really appreciated! Only one note to the tickets purchasing spot on the ground floor, where the info point is: it would be great if the people working there would be able to properly understand and speak English. Overall it's absolutely recommended!

It is a really cool experience. Every hour there is a "show" from the clock. I'd really suggest you study a little before going because if you just go with no back study, it will be hard for you to figure out time 😂. But whenever the hour strikes, there are so many moving parts that it makes you want to go back for more to pay attention to everything. Not only that, the clock is on the main square of Prague, so either way you are gonna pass by it. Enjoy you TIME and Prague.

The Prague Astronomical Clock is an extraordinary marvel that effortlessly blends history, art, and science. Its intricate design and impressive functionality make it a must-see attraction in Prague. The clock's mechanism, dating back to the 15th century, still operates flawlessly, enchanting visitors with its accurate timekeeping, intricate astronomical displays, and the mesmerizing procession of the Twelve Apostles. Witnessing this historical timepiece in action is truly an awe-inspiring experience. However, due to its immense popularity, the clock area can get quite crowded, so it's best to plan your visit accordingly. Don't miss the chance to marvel at the Prague Astronomical Clock; it's a true gem that embodies the genius of human craftsmanship.

If you go to Prague it is mandatory to go and see it. It is already wonderful from the outside, the ticket price is negligible compared to the view it offers over the city. For those who suffer from vertigo I recommend taking the lift up, otherwise everything is perfect. If you go up on foot it's a bit of effort but it's worth it.

7th of October 2021. Basically, it's a medieval clock in the old town hall (a replica of the old clock after building the new after the WWII). Every hour the clock beats and the statues of the 12 Apostles appearing. It is definitely worth a visit for the beautiful architecture. Just remember to go upstairs to enjoy the nice view of the city. PS: We went at 18:00 (because it says it is open until 20:00). After we paid the entrance fee, they informed us that we can not go to the underground cemetery.

Prague Astronomical Clock or Prague Orloj at Prague Old Town Visited on 24/9/2019 Whether it is day time or night time, this medieval astronomical clock attached to the Old Town Hall is just magnificent. Our touring companions wait very patiently for the clock to chime on the hour, every hour from 9 am to 11 pm. The clock is one of the oldest mechanical instruments in the world. It is a combination of clock and projection of sky. I have to admit that it is too difficult to decode what all those circles, Roman numerals, lines, colours are.

This beautiful old tower is located in the old city main square. You can sit in a nearby cafe, restaurant or a bench and watch it. Every certain time (30 minutes or 1 hour) you can see the figures moving out from the upper part. It’s a very known tourists attraction. People are waiting there to catch that moment with their cameras. All the area is full of restaurants and shops.

The place is a mandatory place to visit for me when i go to Prague. The clock is beautiful. You have to check when the small puppet of apostles will walk in the clock. I love being there. It was very very very crowd and a lot of people there, made us difficult to take picture properly. But i can understand and i still love the place. The atmosphere is so different and unique. Maybe it will be good idea to come there in weekdays.

Seeing from the outside is one thing, but make sure you pay to climb it and see the stunning views from the top. There is a lift (may cost more, though) or stairs. The views from the top are amazing, with plenty of space and chances to take good photos. 100% recommend.

An essential destination. This gorgeous and historically important structure is simply a must do when you visit Prague. The Old Town Hall is located on the busy and diverse main town square. Note that the crowds get heavier near the top of each hour as people gather to view the astronomical clock presentation. Inside, you can purchase a ticket to go to the very top, where you will enjoy an incredible, panoramic view of Prague. Here are a couple of helpful hints. First, spring for the few extra bucks to take the elevator to the very top, skipping the stairs. You will save LOTS of time. Once you arrive at the top, go LEFT on the viewing platform, NOT TO THE RIGHT as the signs indicate. Slowly work your way counter clockwise around the tower and you will be treated to some of the best views you can imagine.

Gorgeous views from the clock tower as well, with a panoramic view of the old town square.

The Prague Astronomical Clock, located in the Old Town Square of Prague, is a marvel of medieval engineering and artistry. Its intricate design, historical significance, and the hourly "show" where the figures of the Apostles appear are commendable. Visitors admire the clock's craftsmanship and its connection to astronomical measurements and the passing of time. However, as some reviews mention, the hourly spectacle can draw large crowds, making it challenging to get a good view. Overall, it's considered a must-see attraction in Prague for its historical and cultural importance.

Old fascinating mechanics. At the full hour, the apostles turn and the rooster crows :) You have to see it in prague ;) You can eat across from the town hall, but it's a bit expensive and tastes average. For a coffee and wait for the full hour Show it's ok :) Attention, many people try to get your money out of your pocket with pictures, flowers etc. Negativ: Many people without a face mask !

The Prague Astronomical Clock is awesome! It is hard to believe that it was built in 1410 and it still runs!!! It is really cool to see. Everytime it goes out the entire world stands still and is quite to hear everything go off, it is really interesting to hear and be a part of it. We visited Prague two years ago and it was undergoing a slight restore, so we were happy when it was fully restored this time. We also did the tour of inside the building and got to check out the inner workings of the clock as well as go to the top of the tower to get a gorgeous view of the entire city. one thing we liked about the tour is seeing the underground and learning why the city is might higher than it used to be when it was first founded (helped prevent flooding). Basically everything that was on floor level became a basement. It is amazing to see how people figure out how to found solutions back in the day. The tour guide was very friendly and helpful to tell us all the ins and outs of the clock, and the old city. The price is very nice as well for what you get.

(Translated by Google) The visiting card of the city of Prague is the astronomical clock. They are about 600 years old and magically beautiful. There is a clock on the building of the City Hall on the Old Town Square. On the main square of the city. And, of course, they are called the Prague eagle (Pražský orloj) or the Old Town Eagle. It is difficult to imagine a tourist who, being in Prague, never saw the Prague Astronomical Clock. Crowds of tourists are waiting for the clock to play music and the figures begin to move. You can look at this watch for a long time and still find more and more new details. It is difficult to surprise a modern person with any watch. But this watch has been working and working for itself for 6 hundred years. In addition to being beautiful, the watch is also a technically sophisticated gadget. Not every modern person can figure it out on the fly. Prague Orloj is not only clocks, but also calendars. The clock shows everything that was vital for the people of that time. For example, according to the lunar calendar, the time of planting of plants and crops was recognized. And not a single astrologer, especially in Prague at that time, can do without the lunar calendar. The watch also showed important dates and holidays instead of the modern calendar. The watch dial is divided into 24 hours. On the left, the time is from midnight to noon, and on the right, from noon to midnight. Light blue is daylight, orange is dawn. It is noteworthy that the signs of the Zodiac move both in a circle and along their axis, making a full revolution. When we look at Orloi, we see people and animals, mythical gargoyles, angels, etc. For us, these are often just sculptures decorating buildings, but imagine that for people living in the Middle Ages, this was very meaningful and understandable. People have always, and especially in the Middle Ages, believed in supernatural forces. Therefore, many ancient buildings are decorated with protective amulets in the form of sculptures, miniatures, etc. The Prague Eagle did not escape this either. Especially considering that the clock was not on the temple, but on the secular building of the city hall. So the grace of the temple did not extend to him. So you need to defend yourself. The watch decorations from time to time were supplemented, replaced, restored. And so on for many centuries. Therefore, it is difficult in our time to talk about a single idea and clearly interpret sculptural allegories. 1410, October 9. This is the date from which the Prague chimes, or Orloj, begin to count down the centuries. This watch is the fruit of the work of three masters, about whom, by the way, there were many mystical stories. The astronomical dial was designed by the mathematician and astronomer Jan Schindel. The watch mechanism itself was made by the watchmaker Mikulas from Kadani. The Czech sculptor and architect Petr Parlezek made unique sculptures for the dial. According to old documents, Mikulas was paid 3,000 Prague groschen at a time for his work. For comparison - this amount is equivalent to the cost of 95 cows in prices of the beginning of the 15th century. Plus 600 Prague groschen annually and another house at the Havel city gate. In 1490 the watch was improved. The Prague watchmaker Jan Rжеže (Czech. Jan Růže), also known as the master Hanuš (Czech. Hanuš), repaired the mechanism. He added the lower calendar dial and the first moving figure of Death. Jan Taborski was appointed watchmaker in 1552. He not only repaired the watch, but also improved it. Jan Taborski also compiled a detailed technical description of the watch. Unfortunately, he attributed the authorship of the Prague Orloj to Jan Rouge. For centuries he has been regarded as the author of these exceptional watches. In 1962, the error was corrected by the Czech historian and astronomer Zdenek Gorski. According to the legend that has existed for a long time, the author of Orloj, master Hanush, was blinded by the order of the Prague City Council so that he could not repeat his masterpiece. Surprisingly, the watch is actually the only one in the world then and now. And the legend is just a legend, since the master Hanush was not really the author of the Prague chimes, but only repaired the mechanism of the clock and improved it. They also advised to visit the obligatory half-kilometer bridge over the Vltava, which used to be the "Royal Route" is considered a symbol of Prague.

The gardens were beautiful with lots of winding paths. The wooden Orthodox Church is especially beautiful, but the path shown by maps isn’t really an official path, it leads up the the back of the church, and it was quite muddy due to the rain. There is a more central, official path that leads to the front of the church, but it wasn’t displayed by maps. The memorial to the victims of communism is also worth seeing. It’s a nice place to walk around and just enjoy the nature in the city.

The clock is located right in the centre of the city and is a great tourist spot. Everyday at 12:00 noon there is a small display of movement of the characters placed on the clock. One of the busiest places to visit in Prague, especially if you want to see what happens on the hour. We were lucky enough to time it just right and see it strike at 12:00. The crowd was quite large and it can get a bit pushy, so may not be the best for smaller children. There are a couple of cafes located in front of the clock face with out door and undercover seating, so I'd recommend getting into on of these to watch from the comfort of a seat instead of being in the crowd. There are plenty of local shops around the clock that sell clock tower souvenirs and gifts, as it is one of the main sights in the city. Great to see one of the great astronomical clocks still working!

Lovely building. Incredible old interior and you can also see the workings of the clock. View is sensational. Tip: buy tickets from the official site and head in at any time on the day of purchase. When you reach the floor which has the entrance to the tower, ignore the line that may stretch down the stairs, as that is for buying tickets there. You can head straight past and show your ticket to the employee with the ticket scanner and go right up.

  • 5/5 Beth K. 1 year ago on Google
A lovely clock from the outside, but I would definitely recommend buying tickets for the tour inside and to go up the tower: the view is gorgeous. The tour includes access to view the mechanism inside of the clock as well as the underground rooms beneath the town hall and is well worth the money. When ascending the tower you can pay extra to take the lift, but I wouldn't bother as there is a spiral ramp as opposed to stairs which isn't particularly challenging or lengthy to climb. You can buy tickets on the third floor but may need to come back another day for your tour, as they book up quite quickly.

You have to see this astronomical clock during your visit in Prague! It's the oldest clock still in operation. Between 9 am and 9 pm, there's an hourly show that we call "The Walk of the Apostles". As you can see in the pictures, there are two doorways above the clock. Every hour, they open up and you can see statues of the apostles moving behind. It's very interesting to see it in person! There's a calendar below the clock which has the names of 365 saints. It moves everyday so the pointer can move to another name. I recommend getting there early, around 8:45 am. We were the first to be there at that time and we waited in a great location in front of the clock. This way we enjoyed the 9 am show. Right after the show, you can get inside to be one of the first to check the apostles from inside the clock. You can also be the first to climb the tower and enjoy the view of the city.

The clock is located on the Old Town Hall in Prague's Old Town Square. The clock is decorated with intricate astrological symbols and figures. The rooster is said to crow to warn people of the end of the world. The clock is a popular tourist attraction and is one of the most photographed landmarks in Prague. The clock tower at night is stunning, be sure to visit both day and night !

The crowd can be equally as interesting to look at as the Astronomical Watch itself. The clock chimes every hour from 9:00 AM to 11:00 PM. People gather and eagerly wait to witness the watch’s captivating performance and document the moment. This attraction is undoubtedly super touristy, but it’s absolutely worth visiting. It allows you to experience and understand firsthand that Prague is visited by millions of tourists every year. Once you go there, you’ll find lots of other fascinating things right next to it to see and explore. The area surrounding the Astronomical Watch is filled with historical landmarks, vibrant markets, and charming streets, offering a glimpse into the rich culture and history of Prague. It’s an excellent opportunity to dive deeper into the city’s enchanting atmosphere and make the most of your visit.

Very beautiful tower watch. A must see in Prague. The Prague Astronomical Clock, also known as the Prague Orloj, is a remarkable medieval astronomical clock located in the heart of Prague, Czech Republic. This intricate timepiece is situated on the southern wall of the Old Town City Hall in the Old Town Square. Here's a detailed description of the Prague Astronomical Clock: 1. **Main Structure**: The clock consists of several components, including the astronomical dial, the zodiacal ring, the mechanical clockwork, and the "Walk of the Apostles" figurines. 2. **Astronomical Dial**: The clock's face is a stunning representation of the universe. It features a large outer ring with Roman numerals representing Old Czech Time (also known as Italian hours) and an inner ring with Arabic numerals indicating Central European Time. The dial is adorned with intricate details, including golden stars and symbols. 3. **Zodiacal Ring**: Encircling the astronomical dial is the zodiacal ring, showcasing the twelve zodiac signs. The position of the Sun in the zodiac is depicted, allowing observers to determine the current astrological sign. 4. **Mechanical Clockwork**: The clock's movement is driven by an elaborate mechanical system. The clockwork includes gears, shafts, and other mechanisms that enable the clock to display the time, date, astronomical information, and perform hourly displays. 5. **"Walk of the Apostles"**: At the top of the hour, a captivating show takes place as the "Walk of the Apostles" begins. Twelve wooden figurines representing the Apostles appear from small windows above the clock dial. The figurines move in procession, while Death, depicted as a skeleton, rings a bell. The Twelve Apostles' Parade is one of the most iconic features of the clock. 6. **Calendar Dial**: Below the main dial, a calendar is displayed. It features medallions representing the months, with each medallion depicting various activities associated with that month. 7. **Inscription and Decorations**: The clock's frame and surrounding area are beautifully adorned with decorative elements, including statues and motifs that reflect the medieval beliefs and culture. 8. **Historical Significance**: The Prague Astronomical Clock dates back to the 15th century and is one of the oldest astronomical clocks still in operation. It holds immense cultural and historical significance for Prague and is a symbol of the city's rich heritage. 9. **Tourist Attraction**: The clock is a major tourist attraction, drawing visitors from around the world who gather in front of the Old Town City Hall to witness the hourly show and admire the clock's intricate design. It's important to note that the information provided is based on my knowledge up until September 2021. For the most accurate and up-to-date details about the Prague Astronomical Clock, I recommend consulting current sources or visiting the location in person.

The clock might be quite beautiful from the outside but don't miss the guided tour through the five buildings of which the town hall is constituted. The original ground was also quite fascinating, as the current floor is about 8m higher than the original ground because they raised the street level to prevent flooding. Overall a really nice tour of about 1 hour which is well worth the money. There are certain time slots though which may lead to larger groups and a slightly less pleasent experience.

Very worth the visit with the view from above on Prague and the church. Go at the first hour of opening for an early bird half price ticket. Be aware that you can't visit the undergrounds without a guide which is free but they don't tell you that. We decided to go with the Czech guide but they didn't want us foreigners at first, we said it eas only for viewing the undergrounds. Anna the guide was comprehensive and very kind.

Very beautiful and ornate public clock that does not really tell the time (as far as I can tell). There is a smaller actual clock on the right of it. Attracts crouds as every hour there is a small show of figurines (saints) displaying on the 2 little windows that open. A bit overhyped but nice none the less.

This place is visited by pretty much everyone visiting Prague's old town. This is the center of attraction and for the right reasons. The astronomical clock will take you back in history and this is a well-preserved marvel of architecture from the old world. Various parts of Prague have their history well preserved and this is one of them. You can also climb this tower and views from the top will give you a completely different perspective on this town. Although there are other places to get these views, this one is the best of the lot.

I must say, this astronomical clock is truly impressive. The level of craftsmanship and design is really something to admire. The way it still manages to look so elegant is remarkable. I'm genuinely taken aback by how great it is. If you want good picture, go early in the morning

Beautiful clock but less spectacular than expected. Expectations were higher. Best point of view is watching the audience. I do recommend visiting the tower to have a nice overview of the city.

The view of the city from the top of the clock tower is absolutely stunning, and I highly recommend purchasing tickets to go up if you can. Students can also get a discount, so don't miss out on this opportunity.

Fascinating clock, very pressing to look at. It can be funny learning how to read it. Every hour on the hour the figures around it animate so people will flock to the little space available in front of it to see. If you find yourself there just a few minutes before, go for it. Otherwise just watch a video because it is nothing to write home about. The rooster on top animates just at certain hours.

I went at the night as there is very less waiting time. The night view of Prague from the astronomical clock is too beautiful. We can see the architecture and the old walls from inside as well as the clock. It was really a memorable experience.

This was worth the wait and lived up to the hype. Located in the old town square in Prague this clock has been running for centuries. It was interesting to see all the parts moving and how it was made as this wonder of scientific progress but they still made it ascetically pleasing.

Majestic 600+ year clock in Prague’s old town square The clock not only shows the time but also indicates the positions of the suns and moon. The hourly ‘Walk of the Apostles’ parades twelve figurines. You have to stand directly in front of the tower as the figures don’t actually come out of the doors. I’d recommend coming during the weekdays and/or grabbing a drink / bite at the restaurants facing the clock. There’s usually a crowd gathered ~15 minutes before the hour.

Visited this clock multiple times you will find that on your trip to Prague if you don’t end up back at Charles Bridge then you’ll definitely be back in the centre on the old town at the astronomical clock. This clock is only accessible by foot as its an almost market square area. Beautiful visit, please visit this clock on an hour as you will get to see a little show (no spoilers here). No tickets needed to visit it is free unless you want a guide (local) or I believe you can enter but that would be charged at the clock. ☺️

Visited the Prague Astronomical Clock and was genuinely impressed by its architecture and engineering – a true testament to the ingenuity of the past. The clock itself is a marvel, combining intricate design with historical significance. However, while the clock is undoubtedly a must-see, I found the hourly ‘animation’ a bit underwhelming considering the hype. Be prepared for the area to be extremely crowded, especially just before the clock strikes the hour. If you’re keen on getting a good view of the animation, you’ll need to arrive at least 15 minutes early. However, in my experience, the gathering and wait didn’t quite live up to the expectations set by the clock’s fame.
