My rating reflects facts which are underlaid by pictures and the restaurant’s webpage. Overall, the atmosphere is nice and comforting with nice staff apart from one demented waiter (obese with beard). The ambience however does not compensate for the quality of the food which is at its best good, not excellent or astonishing as some reviewers claim. Drinks and wine are simply overpriced without any added value, despite a large selection of wines, which is above average compared to other places. Service was good, yet bringing some extra bread would be a nice plus. For starter AVOID, the shrimp cocktail, it’s simply a fruit salad with ONE SHRIMP cut into pieces. The title on the menu claims shrimp(S) …. Picture shows it all … The main course CHATEAUBRIAND was very good, however, we ordered medium and received Medium rare in the centre not to mention 3 halves of grenaille potatoes. Why does the chef cut already Small potatoes into halves eludes me, but I see some resemblance with the shrimp cocktail. … Picture shows it all For dessert, I’ve ordered a selection of cheeses, which was good, nothing to fuss about. I would definitely not come back to this place, there are far better places to eat. It’s nothing special.

Amazing food and wine with great atmosphere. Lovely waiters that explain everything and can chat a little too. Overall a great experience. They say it is the oldest restaurant in the Czech Republic and one of the best in the country.

Charming atmosphere, excellent food, and wonderful service! Our waiter said he has been with the restaurant for 23 years. I cannot recommend this restaurant highly enough!

Claims to be the oldest restaurant in Prague, established in 1543, the restaurant provides haut cousine food paired with vast choice of French and Czech wines and excellent service. They don't have wine by glass, though. All the wines are being sold by a bottle. Book in advance, it could be challenging to find a s seat Nice paintings on the walls add some medieval atmosphere.

This restaurant is fantastic and the food is extraordinary, hopefully gets a Michelin star soon. The menu is based on French cuisine well combined with local produce and tradition, a great idea.

I eat out twice a week and never regretted trusting a waiter's suggestion… until tonight. We asked for 2 glasses of wine, the wine we asked for was about 500 CZK /bottle. (much) later 2 bottles came, and the waiter suggested one that was much better in his opinion. No price mentioned so you may expect something in a similar range, maybe 10/20% more… Those 2 glasses ended to be… 450/glass, nearly 5x (!!) pricier than the one we asked for, and more than twice the main course... Over half of the bill (1750) was for those 2 glasses of wine. I believe that a suggestion that his so far from the original order should come with some price indication, otherwise it feels disingenuous, or worse. Food-wise it was unequal, some good points, some bad. The worst part was the decorative item on top of the desert that smelled super rancid, like an uncleaned kitchen aspiration; not sure what it was so we just put it away. Good point are the sauces and the duck's cooking. There were just 3 tables for the whole restaurant and it was particularly slow, which I dont mind too much but some people may be less patient… So that place could be great but now it feels sketchy…

Surfait. Too expensive vs quality Nice place, wine are quite expensive (around min 1000Kc) but very good selection. You can even find some Petrus ! Food was not bad but nothing extraordinary.

I made a reservation last minute for my wife's birthday dinner I was amazed by the quality service, delicious food, and excellent price! The food wasn't just delicious it was art! The chef made us special cheese appetizer and a desert with a candle for my wife at the end... Wow. Not sure why there are so many dollar signs on Google though, the meal was only like 40 euros!

I recently went there for a dinner. I experienced some very good things which unfortunately were swept away by the amount of bad things… The list of bad things started with my entree. I ordered a chicken liver (that I love) with pear and brioche. This paring intrigued me. Unfortunately, the dish tasted like gastric reflux. This certainly sounds mean but it was hard to swallow any bite, luckily the portion was small. In short, the pairing was badly executed & disheartening. Another big problem was regarding the decorative coral tuiles on the dishes. These were on the amuse-bouche, the already-disheartening entree, and the pineapple crumble. All of the coral tuiles tasted disgustingly RANCID. It made me wonder how those tuiles are cooked and stored, and most importantly, for how long… The last problem was with the sketchy way the waiter suggested another red wine to us. It was my mistake for not asking to know the price, but I don't appreciate this sketchy move. The initial Pinot Nero we ordered by the glass, was around 500-650 the Bottle (price by the glass not displayed). When he suggested another wine, I expected maybe a 20%-30% increase in the bottle price. The 2 glasses of wine ended up costing more than half the bill. 900CZK for 2 glasses of wine, when all the food we had were less than 800! This is simply a very shameful behaviour.

Went for my birthday, having been recommended by someone. Made to feel very special and looked after - I was even allowed to cook my own dessert! Very comprehensive wine list and extremely delicious, filling, and well presented food. We had: fois gras and carpaccio; venison and quail; curd dumplings and flambe pear. This along with champagne to start, a bottle of Czech red wine and dessert wine to finish, all came to less than 150 pound, which for haute cuisine in the oldest restaurant in the country, as a birthday meal, was good value.

It takes me a lot to write reviews. This place is just special. I was here in 2019 twice and back twice this year. If you want an experience of great food and great service come here. This is an old school classy elegant place. The chef is superb and knows how to cook fish. The duck was amazing too.
