In terms of the monastery itself there are several cathedrals that are free to enter in Prague that are just as nice and you are able to walk more inside and are not restricted to just looking in through a few meters past the opening entrance such as here. You need to pay for a pretty expensive ticket I think like €13 each to see the gallery/library. The gallery has some cool chalices/staffs and older paintings, but the library although it looks very nice you are again restricted from only seeing at the entrance and not able to explore inside. If you have seen the Trinity College library in Dublin you would not find this impressive. I think if you pay more money you can get a tour where you can actually walk inside. And you have to pay more money for photos as well. There is a really cool observation tower and nice views nearby the monastery though so I do recommend walking by this area but unless you have unlimited money to spend I don’t think it’s worth the entrance fee at this monastery to be honest based on what you can see for free elsewhere in the city.

A lovely place! One of the best views of Prague from the terrace under the monastery (free of charge). The library inside with the beautiful paintings and thousands of ancient books is absolutely stunning. It is often labeled as the most beautiful library in the world. Pro tip: The regular tickets include just a quick peek to the library from the corridor. If you want to go inside and see both library halls in detail you need a prior reservation of a private tour.

If you can get a private tour in advance, book it. The library is incredible. We could only see it from the outside, but it still looks amazing. Luckily they also have lots of pieces outside for you to see, along with signs in English. The ceiling is the thing to notice and admire, along with the books of course.

The walk is an uphill journey on cobblestone streets with amazing views, cute shops, restaurants and souvenirs and you get to come across some breathtaking architecture and views of the city on the walk up. The library is one of the top five most beautiful libraries in the world. They have bibles written by hand before the printing press reached Europe. Very Cool to see in person.

It is preferable to get a ticket for three locations at once as it turns out to be cheaper. Unfortunately, everything can be viewed from the entrance doors. It’s all fenced off. There is a fascinating exhibition of antique books in the library. An interesting art gallery is also available. There is an incredible courtyard next to the gallery, a captivating view of the city. Additionally, there is a pub on the premises where you can grab a bite to eat. I recommend trying the ribs in a sweet marinade. However, make sure to tally up your bill independently as they tried to deceive us.

When we arrived at the entrance / ticket selling reception, we were told that the tickets are now sold outside next to the bus station, which is time wasting. They should have put up a sign way ahead so that visitors would know before they walk all the way to the entrance, and they would not need to walk back out and buy tickets and then walk back in again.

This looks great in principle but it's a waste. I felt conned when I had to pay for 2 entrance tickets and a photo permission (50ckz) . Although beautiful from the outside everything is so strictly controlled. Below are all the photos I took from what you could look at as the library itself is closed off and you cant walk around. Save you money and look at the photos. Rather go have a beer at the monastery bar...

It is a beautiful place, we have bought a combined ticket to see the art gallery, the church and the library. I was disapointed not to be able to see the church and the library, as you are only allowed to watch the inside from the entrance, there isn't even a small corridor inside for people to take a closer look, which is a pitty because both the church and the library seem very impressive.

A small but very nice collection of things in the museum. The two library halls are really stunning. You can't enter them but make pictures from the entrance. It's not crowded.

(Translated by Google) I have long wanted to get here, came after a walk through the Prague Castle. In principle, there is nothing special to see, the most interesting is the view from the height of the hill to Prague and a visit to the beer restaurant at the monastery. (Original) Давно хотел попасть сюда, зашли после прогулки по Пражскому граду. В принципе особо смотреть нечего, самое интересное - это вид с высоты холма на Прагу и посещение пивного ресторана при монастыре.

Astonishing. One of the most beautiful libraries in the world! 😍 Instead of taking the normal tour, make sure to book the private tour in advance (more info is available on the Monastery website) so you can see properly this wonder!! 👏👏👏

Uphill walk, reserving a tour recommended. When we were there, all the globes were unfortunately lined up so it was difficult to see them all. The lady in the gift shop was very friendly. She had a stamp for visitors to mark their cards. I asked if she would stamp my journal. She just handed me the inkpad and the stamps and told me to go ahead. Great experience. Do visit the art gallery. Many rooms, great art, quiet, might not be the best place for small children. Pictures below.

Hi we visited here but we didn't purchase any entry tickets to view the library or picture gallery. There is access to the chapel at the monastery and it's an impressive building as per the pictures. There are a number of bars and restaurants outside that sell beer made in micro breweries on the grounds of the monastery. If you fancied a pint. I have included pictures of the St Norbert bar we went to. Who said they were the only bar that actually brewed their beer on the monastery and the others are brewed somewhere else. So don't know who is telling the truth really. The scenery from the monastery is amazing also. As it gives you a view right across Prague.

Amazing place to go to, it won't take long to walk around but it is well worth going. It is a bit far from the centre of Prague and up a very difficult hill to walk up if your not great at walking in which I case I would recommend public transport.

The monestary church is very beautiful, but the library collection is actually what drew me to the site. It is well worth the extra money to book a private guided tour. My guide Ivana was wonderful. The private tour allows one to immerse oneself into the history of this still operating abbey. The collection is simply amazing and a national Czech treasure.

(Translated by Google) There are two library rooms in the Norbertine monastery in Strahov - a theological one from the 17th century and a philosophical one from the 18th century. Many valuable and interesting collections, as well as the interesting history of the library itself. In the theological room - a compilation desk with movable inlaid shelves. Such a computer from centuries ago. In the corridor, there is a study of curiosities, and in it, among others. xyloteka - a dendrological library containing monographs of tree species. The book covers are made of the bark of the tree in question, with a herbarium inside. W korytarzu gabinet osobliwości, a w nim m. in. ksyloteka - biblioteka dendrologiczna, zawierająca monografie gatunków drzew. Okładki książek wykonane są z kory omawianego drzewa, w środku zielnik.

Wonderful monastery, containing three diferent areas (all on one ticket) the chapel, the library and the convent The chapel was closed for a service so we could only enter into the rear area. This still provided great views. The next section is the most well known area, the library. The libary is made up for two stunning area's. Unfortunately you can only stand at the door way and not actually enter. It is still non the less unmissable. The last area seems to be missed out by the other tourists visting when I went. The convent is situated a short walk away from the other two areas. It is over two levels, the ground floor allows access to the original rooms of the monastery which are stunning and left me in awe. There are also toilets which may provide relief to people wanting to continue onto the castle or observation tower. On the second floor is a vast and varied art collection. These are mainly religious art works but are of a great historical significance.

It is indeed beautifull, but very crowded and actually you don't get to see inside the library only if you have a reservation and a guide. We only payed the tickets and did not had acces in the library. We have seen it from outside the door, it was majestic either way. A place you will want to visit.

I consider this a tourist trap. You pay a full ticket for the library but you cannot access it. 6 euro just to see 10 old bibles in a 10m hallway. Very disappointing. They only tell you that after you purchase the ticket

If you entendu to visit the library, you better start the day with this visit cause it opens at 9h30. You'll probably need about 1h. Then from the monastery to the castle you need to take the tram for 2 or 3 Station.

This is wonderful place all together, we walked here from the castle and it was fun. The chapel, library and convent can be done in one ticket. The chapel visit depends on the time. The library was really beautiful and the convent was amazing. All together it takes about an hour to finish everything.

The organization deserves 0 stars. If you don’t book a tour guide, you can pay the ticket but without visiting the library (which it was the reason I went up there). They explain you at the ticket office, but anyway, it doesn’t make any sense. Ridiculous!

It could be much better if they let people walk inside the library main salons. In a regular visit they just let you have a short visit through the entrance door, you can stay there for a few seconds and take few pictures 😑

(Translated by Google) It is located in Hradčany, very close to Prague Castle and Loretta .... Its construction began in 1140 by the King of Bohemia Vladislav II, and was originally wooden, but after a devastating fire in 1258 it was rebuilt in Gothic style. The monks are of the Order of the Capocins, founded by St. Norbert (known as the Norbertines or White Horsemen) .... The monastery was closed during communism, and some of the monks were imprisoned. Its activities were restored after 1990. Now you can walk around its park or see some of the landmarks that are on his theory ... the Church of St. Roch, the Church of the Assumption (where Mozart is said to have played in 1787), the Strahov Library, the Art Gallery and of course the Norbert Brewery. Plan enough time to visit. It is still open to external sightseeing even after the official closing time of 5-6 in the evening. The on-site restaurant bar claimed to be 800 years old is a great place to grab a bite and splash it with some excellent draft beer (lager, dark and even IPA). You can choose to sit deep in the cellar or on the outside terrace with very nice ambience.

I went to the Strahov Monastery this past week on vacation in Prague and the views did not disappoint. They have a little restaurant that allows you to try the beer that the monks made (I tried the blueberry) and it is very good! I’m not a beer fan normally but this went down easily. But the main attraction at the restaurant is the incredible view of the city. The food was great too (I got the salmon tartar appetizer). Check this out if you want a unique meal with great views

A very nice place to visit near the castle. The view to the city is fantastic, there are small shops where you can buy food and drink and small souvenirs. It is only crowded if there is a tourist group. Worth to visit.

Is it worth the money? Yes and no. The library is very small and limited to one corridor. You won't see much. The gallery, on the other hand, has much more to offer. Be prepared to pay extra for being allowed to take pictures. There's restaurants in the vicinity so that's good. Overall, the place is peaceful and quiet. You can pay by card.

Very beautiful library and definitely worth a visit. However, it's a pity that you can't take photos inside for free (extra cost of 50 CZK) and that you can't actually enter the library room. You can only look through the door. Anyways I'm happy that I've visited the library and the (luxury) monastery.

(Translated by Google) If you're okay with morning drinking, it's also recommended to go around 11:00 for brunch. A lot of people come from lunch. All three draft beers are delicious and thick. The view is really good if you drink beer and walk down the walk.

(Translated by Google) The entrance was only to one hall where there were a few old books, an exhibition of sea shells and apples behind the window. The entrance to the main attraction - the library was closed. The service does not correspond to the price at all. I do not recommend this place (Original) Вхід був тільки в один зал де було кілька старих книг, виставка морських мушлі і яблука за вітриною. Вхід до головної атракції - бібліотеки був закритий. Послуга взагалі не відповідає ціні. Не рекомендую це місце

Lucky enough to book the private tour. I am the only person in the tour. Ivana was brilliant in explaining the meaning of the paintings and information of the libraries and use of some furnitures. I would definitely recommend doing a private tour.

OK, the library is indeed beautiful, but other than that it's not worth the price - we couldn't see the temple at all - only through glass and two(!) grids, standing at the very entrance. It's much better to just walk around the park.
