Worthwhile to visit if you are a Kafka enthusiast but perhaps boring and expensive for someone who doesn't know much about Kafka. The museum includes Kafka's hand writings, earlier editions of his books, and a lot of photos and information about his life. This information also helps you locate other interesting destinations in your Prague trip, e.g. different houses where Kafka lived in, or his favourite bars, etc. It takes about one hour or more to visit the museum.

It’s exciting and super nice to find a museum dedicated to such a dark, great personality of literature. We enjoyed learning more about him and his life, and there’s plenty of English texts and translations so even as a tourist you’ll understand. That being said, for the price (300 CZK for 1 adult), the museum could offer more, especially storytelling wise. Most if the info is in ‘pieces’, shards of the context and not said in a storyline that would be easy to follow. I’d appreciate more explanations, more context, more user-friendliness in general. The museum is a good idea but kind of counts on the visitor to already know the basics and to put the pieces together in their head, and not always that felt easy. Which is why I think fir the money it’s for 3*** and not more.

Beautiful place to see but if you don’t know Kafka’a work then this museum is not for you and it’ll not be interesting. I think that ticket price is not so suitable because museum is small.

Note: for bookworms and those who read more than "The trial" or "Metamorphosis" if you want to truly understand everything and achieve full experience. If not, you won't be satisfied with "papers, books and lots of notes written on the walls" Anyway, For CZK 260 you get a beautiful, artistically styled museum with lots of visual and sound effects. They even created a gloomy atmosphere to represent Kafka as close as possible. A perfect opportunity to dive into Kafka's mind. There are several of his personal belongings, lots of documents and his handwriting. Even some sketches when he was in his artistic era! And of course, lots of mind-intriguing quotes from his books.

The Franz Kafka Museum opened in the summer of 2005 in the remarkable Herget Brickworks building on the Lesser-Town bank of the Vltava River. Franz Kafka was born in Prague on 3 July 1883, died in a sanatorium in Kierling on 3 June 1924, and was buried in the New Jewish Cemetery in Prague This long-term exhibition takes us into the world of Franz Kafka (1883-1924), born in Prague and one of the greatest figures of 20th century world literature. The exhibition presents: most of the first editions of Kafka’s works letters, diaries, manuscripts, photographs and drawings never before displayed in Prague 3-D installations audiovisual pieces and a soundtrack specially created for the exhibition

Went there because I’m a fan of Kafka ♥️🖐🏻 It depicts Kafka’s life in a quite detailed way, that visitors can understand more about Kafka in terms of his personal relationship with Hermann, his lovers and work life. Although I’m not quite sure what the peeing statue has to do with the museum

It's a little expensive for now small the museum is but they do have an incredible amount of Kafka works, letters, and diaries. All the placards are available in English. If you have any interest in Kafka's works/life this is definitely a good visit.

It was already closed when I got there so I only visited the store. The location is really nice and easy to find. There are so many books and souvenirs you can buy. A bit expensive tho. Not just Kafka’s but also Mucha’s. Really liked the statues in front of the building. So cool!

(Translated by Google) The museum is located in the building of an old brick factory. The most interesting thing here is a sculpture of two men peeing on a pool with the outline of a map of the Czech Republic and a large K in the courtyard of the museum. The museum itself is gloomy, dark, for big fans of Kafka's work and who did not regret 200 crowns for the entrance.

Small museum, but I liked it because I knew Kafka and his work before. I think it could be a free museum. Not 150 Korun one. The two men peeing in the yard were very interesting for the tourist.

Not worth the price. This is an exposition of facsimile and reproductions of old documents and pictures. A/c was off in warm weather, the lights were turned off 15 mins before closing time and we had to cut the tour short. Sure, there is a lot of information there and for Kafka fans it might be interesting, but paying to read texts behind glasses isn’t my thing.

As a personal fan of Kafka I loved everything about this Museum. The price is fair, the souvenir shop awesome and the exhibition was marvelous. Every Kafka fan should visit this place, just be aware no pictures are allowed, but considering how chilling it is to experience this museum that's reasonable.

The museum was okay, they provide good overview on Kafka’s life and the influence of Prague in his writing. However, some manuscripts are roughly translated in English and it could be quite a struggle to understand them. The original German manuscripts were beautiful and I wish this would be at least decently depicted as well in the English one, even though there would surely be unavoidable miss-in-translation pieces. In addition, the museum was rather short, mostly discussed about Kafka’s personal life, and did not really delve into what his work pieces were about.

I came here because I am a fan of Kafka writings. I read some of his works back in college for an existential philosophy course. No other writer has entered the vernacular in the current age like kafka. The term kafkaesque accurately describes the themes in kafka’s own life. The museum it self resembles an existential nightmare. This is a must see if you in Prague and enjoy Kafka’s work.

Do not waste your money. Incredibly, there is nothing original about Kafka inside this museum. Just long texts that you could comfortable read sit at home and badly displayed replicas. The most interesting thing to see here it two urinating statues outside, which are free!

GREAT MUSEUM ABOUT KAFKA This museum has a lot of great information about Kafka from his birth to his death. There is also a great gift shop with many different items to choose from. The area around the museum is easy to walk and I enjoyed sitting near the river.

It is forbidden to take pictures in the museum, even if you could, is so complex that it wouldn't represent a thing. The statue in the front side of the entrance is quite peculiar, it moves and even write messages if you send an SMS. It's a deep travel into Kafka's mind, his demons and an experience of his desperate need to figure out life. Even not knowing that we'll his work, it was a wonderful experience to approach to it. Totally recommendable! The lady in the reception of the entrance is very lovely and helpful!!!

Very nice museum at a great location. All you need to know about Franz Kafka is there. Decoration & atmosphere are made to suggest the stressful bureaucracy or the beyond understanding human environment. I had kind of trauma at my 18’s by reading The Castle. I got some answers during the visit and more questions then to be considered as a good session !

If you’ve an interest in Kafka it’s worth checking out. Two floors, floor one sets the scene for Prague as it was in Kafka’s life, sharing letters tie lovers and a more decorative floor inspired by his work

Honestly, I was rather skeptic about this museum despite loving Kafka. After all, he was a writer and there's not much to show apart from his work. And yet, they manage to help me connect even more with his writing. You'll see pieces of his diary, some sketches and work related papers, but is totally worthy. The exposition manage to stablish a great narrative that catch you from beginning to end.

Tells the story of Kafka's life, how he became the writer he was and a bit about his creation. I think is was well put together to reflect the feel of his work. I took the time to read and explore and enjoyed.

An atmospheric journey through the world of Franz Kafka and Prague from the beginning of the 20th century. The museum concerns the writer so there’s a lot of materials and quotes to read in three languages basically - Czech, German and English. So if someone doesn’t speak one of this languages efficiently, the museum can be a bit disappointing…However it’s an unforgettable experience for Kafka fans! As an addition - in front of museum entrance - another controversial sculpture by the ubiquitous David Černy.

The museum provides the visitors with a great experience. You get to learn a lot about kafka's life in a very poetic way. What seemed a bit off is that they didn't have all kafka's books at the museum shop - which I would expect to find in a museum dedicated to the authors life.

  • 3/5 Charlie P. 1 year ago on Google
Well organized with his background and history on the top floor and details on his works on the ground floor. The museum was hot as hell when I visited. Some of the lamps don’t work so you can’t read some plaques in the dark hallways. Also, some of the notations are written in white on a transparent label above a display case, no contrast so some you can’t read. The lady at the entrance is disinterested and unfriendly, just like some subjects in Kafka’s novels.

Was disappointed in this museum. I always try to accentuate the positive and maybe my expectations were to high. This was a very dark exhibit literally and some sections I couldn't read the information as it was white and were backlit about 25%of displays you can't read I will try to help you with some information to make it easier for you. 1. When you get to entry area you will a see Statue with 2 men peeing. (See pics)Look to left you will see museum shop. That is where you buy tickets for museum. Our cashier was not very friendly or helpful. 2. Upon exit of shop go directly across the courtyard to museum entrance. 3.The entrance has storage lockers for you and they will take your tickets. 4. Follow arrows to displays. There here is a section where arrows backtrack in first section. There is an area showing movie. To the left of this area is a WC in corner. Behind the movie you will see glas tables with arrow to follow. 5. Main focus of museum is his life and family in Prague.

Well structured museum, especially if you are already a fan of Kafka. Worth a visit if you are interested in an insight in his complex life and relationships with people close to him. I have to add that the ground flour is not heated, which suggests that it's quite cold. Therefore don't leave every piece of clothing in the lockers at the entrance!

In my opinion, the Kafka Museum might not be the most captivating attraction to visit. While it provides insight into the life and works of Franz Kafka, the overall experience might fall short of expectations. The museum's presentation and exhibits could benefit from more engaging elements to truly bring his legacy to life. If you're not a die-hard Kafka enthusiast, you might find other attractions in Prague more worth your time and interest.

The Franz Kafka Museum is dedicated to the life and work of the famous Czech writer. It is located in the Old Town of Prague, in a former insurance agency building that Kafka worked in for a time. The museum has a variety of exhibits, including original manuscripts, letters, and photographs of Kafka. There are also interactive displays that explore Kafka's themes of alienation, bureaucracy, and the absurdity of modern life. The museum's permanent exhibition is divided into three sections: Kafka's life, Kafka's work, and Kafka's legacy. The museum shop sells a variety of Kafka-related merchandise, including books, posters, and souvenirs The ticket price for the Franz Kafka Museum is 260 CZK (about €11) for adults, 170 CZK (about €7) for students and seniors, and free for children under 6

Neat museum about Franz Kafka - would recommend if you’re a fan of the writer / staying in Prague for awhile. Otherwise don’t think it’s as enjoyable without much initial interest and there are more renowned tourist destinations that are better use of time / money (entrance ~$10) Also home to the urinating sculpture fountains.

My attention was attracted by the sculpture at the entrance. It was amusing and funny. I got a perfect chance to take a photo with it. It probably somehow indicated my next journey into the Kafka Museum! I am very interested in his work and his life experience since school time, and this museum has carried out a brilliant job of presenting what we know, and what we don't know about this great, complex and fascinating guy. The whole experience is well worth the entry price (if you are truly a fan of Kafka). I spent my time walking around and reading those narratives about him including his diaries - I also realised it was not only about him - it was about some interesting history OF PRAGUE as well! I would highly recommend this place as a place to go in Prage. I enjoyed this journey very much and I hope you do as well!!

Few places evoke the mystery of philosophy of man, than the bureaucrat lawyer turned writer, Franz Kafka. A life cut short and in only a disobedient last minute act by a surviving friend, where his writings ever to be made public and available to give generations contemplation on the meaning of life. (Translated by Google) Highly recommended stop in Prague for Kafka readers. The setting is very innovative and plays on the shadow / light contrast, with some hints to the experiential practices of the most up-to-date museology. The documents are mostly in reproduction, as the originals are kept in other structures: it is therefore possible to see papers and books at the same time that would otherwise be scattered in different places, not always easily accessible. All captions are also present in English, which allows you to easily overcome the language barrier (Kafka wrote in German, as is well known). The ticket office is in the bookshop, therefore in front of the actual entrance to the Museum. Next door is a café for relaxation after the visit.
