Absolutely stunning show of modern art, with Franz Karla’s head rotating in many different places and pieces every hour for 15 minutes, attracting many many tourists and providing the head a view in every direction. A must see for anyone even remotely interested in art, creativity, or a good time! And…it’s totally free to enjoy and film. A must do in Prague. One of the highlights after castles and amazing old town buildings.

Definitely a piece of art you shouldn't miss out on! The head moves for 15 minutes every hour. Get there 10 minutes early to get a better spot, because it does more than just rotate - it performs. And it's a great piece of engineering! The most futuristic piece of art I've seen in Europe. Yes it's fun to see it on a video, but live Is better!

A must visit in Prague - it's easy to get hypnotised by the strange movements of the rotating blocks, conjuring up all sorts of facial arrangements you couldn't imagine! We were taking a walk on our last morning here and used this as our destination. It’s somewhat hidden away in a square outside a shopping center and it's crowded all the time!

Well worth the visit; 42 layers move for about 15 minutes staring at the top of the hour. There’s a nice cafe next to it so convenient to enjoy the weather and this impressive sculpture.

Nice and modern metal sculpture. It moves for 15 minutes (every hour). Nearby there are cafes and a shopping center, so you can wait for the show

I don't know the exact history behind this rotating head but according to me it's not a must visit place. You can skip this place if you want, its just a head which has some layers and rotates, nothing else. If you have some extra time and want to eat some good food then you can come here because there's a mall just besides this Kafka's Head, in the meantime you can also watch this head rotating every hour.

Interesting for the first 5 min. It is just a spinning head. Don't expect there will be music along with the spinning because it will be great if it has. Anyway, it is a great experience and great piece of art. Salute to the maker. 👍

Very nice experience. The head moves in different directions creating a lot of different perceptions. The place was not so full, so it was perfect to observe. You can spent several minutes enjoying many different motions.

A modern and elegant installation. The plates that construct the head rotate 360 degrees starting every hour for 15 minutes. There are coffee shops and restaurants nearby to pass the time. Definitely worth to visit.

Frank Rotating head starts every beginning of hours for 15 minutes. So if you showed at 10:20 for example., there will be no movement till 11:00. Franz Kafka's work is characterized by anxiety and alienation, and his characters often face absurd situations. He is famous for his novels The Trial, in which a man is charged with a crime that is never named, and The Metamorphosis, in which the protagonist wakes to find himself transformed into an insect.

I had seen a video of this statue long back and I didn't even remember this was in Prague. When listing out the places to see, I suddenly realized that this was in Prague! This sculpture is made of 42 rotating steel panels depicting the Bohemian-German writer Franz Kafka by David Cerny!

I actually really liked this landmark (attraction?). Another thing that you would definitely not see anywhere else, which is why I had to go see it. Just make sure to get there just before the hour, as the head will start moving on the hour, every hour, for 15 minutes.

Nice piece of art to look at and take pictures with, would recommend visit the place when the head is spinning and when it’s daylight. Would not purposely go visit this place though.

all fans of Kafka and fans of art house must visit. The head works the first 15 minutes of every hour and puts on an interesting show. Near shopping centers and cafes where you can wait for the show to start.

Very impressive work of art, located right in front of a shopping center. It's made of 42 independently driven layers and weighs about 45 tons. The statue moves every 15 minutes so make sure to wait and not to miss that.

Iconic! Loved the sight of it. So it happens every hour for fifteen minutes and the head moves 360 degrees. Exceptional example of modern technology integrated with architecture. Worth a visit.

Worth the wait. The statue moves and depicts the internal struggle of Kafka. It used to be a hidden gem but now is quite popular. Don’t forget to click pictures in the mirrors at the bottom of the head for your instagram. It is mesmerising to see all the layers turn, so please bear with the wait and don’t miss this attraction.

This statue is good if you’re able to look at it when it’s rotating. Pro tip: it rotates every hour so try to reach 15 minutes day before 1PM so that you can see it rotating at 1PM.

Kafka rotating head does a choreography every hour, it lasts 5-10. Is waiting one hour worth it? I’d say it depends on your tastes, anyways there’s a shopping mall a few meters away (surpriise) and maybe grabbing a quick snack/drink while you’re waiting isn’t that bad. BEWARE: there are a lot of p1ck pockets waiting for you to look at the rotating head so that they can get a chance to buy snacks with your money.

Kafka Rotating Statue One of the best ways to explore cities is just walking around without any plans; of course not late at night. I stumbled upon this amazing piece of art and excellent engineering feat in 2017. I enjoy watching it change. It’s definitely worth a visit. And very close to it there are several shops and restaurants.

Pretty nice if you happen to be in the area but not worth a long walk for - also take note that it runs from on the hour to quarter past the hour only. It also appears to be slightly broken as one piece didn't rotate at all and another was out of line with the rest.

the rotation of the starts at the beginning of every hour for 15min. pretty cool to watch but once you’ve seen it you don’t need to see it again. unless the sky is different so it can reflect on the metallic sculpture a different way.

Fazit: absolut sehenswert!

Franz Kafka's head ...İt is a master of engineering artwork. One of the most visited attractions of Prague city by the tourists. It's just behind the shopping mal Quadriol where there are quite a number of descent shops and restaurants in there. You can easily reach this place by tram. Trams 22-23-9 all pass infront of the mall 50 meters from the statue. You can just come round and take a few pictures and then enjoy a while at the mall or have a break :)

Great mechanical outdoor sculpture from David Černý depicting Bohemian German-language writer Franz Kafka. It consists of 42 panels which individually rotates. It's 10.6m tall. Installed in 2014. It's a relaxing artwork which you may enjoy from nearby cafés. It used to rotate all the time but now it's active only for 15min each hour which may not be worth the wait for many.

This is one of the most intriguing statues i have ever witnessed. It well turn every hour, for 15 minutes with a wide variety of patterns and actions. It would most likely have been a 5 star if not for the fact that at the time i visited it, 2 of the plates were broken.

Rotating head. I couldn't be bothered to wait in -1 degree weather for it to rotate all the way, but as I was walking away, I looked back and it became a head! So I walked back and took another picture of it as a fully formed head lol. It's cool, but Prague has way weirder and cooler statues than this. It's basically a treasure hunt to find them all and this is definitely on the treasure hunt map!

  • 3/5 rutu m. 10 months ago on Google
First of all it is not always rotating. It has 15min show after every hour. So 1st to 15th min of an hour is the show time. It is nothing much here. Artist had done a great job creating it but now it's just and social media attraction. Instead of show after 1 hour it can be made 5 min show after every 20 min with some music in background.

Franz Kafka Rotating Head : It's well worth the visit; 42 layers rotate for around 15 minutes every hour. There's a lovely mall next to it, so it's easy to have dinner or lunch after watching this, and if you're early or late, don't worry because it moves every hour.

Located in a busy shopping center in Prague, this twisting and reflective sculpture depicting the head of writer Franz Kafka is the latest kinetic artwork by controversial Czech artist David Cerny. Installed in 2014, the enormous mirrored bust is comprised of 42 independently driven layers of stainless steel and weighs in at some 45 tons. The piece brilliantly reveals Kafka’s tortured personality and unrelenting self doubt that plagued him his entire life. The layering of objects is a common motif for Cerny who built a similar rotating head that also functions as a fountain titled Metalmorphosis. (thnx, Chelsea & Diana!)

The spinning head of Franz Kafka is absolutely stunning, every single piece is turning in separate with a perfect combination, so it turns around in 360 digress and you can see it from every place around, this is absolutely gorgeous attractive attraction to see in Prague, very much recommended 😍 don't miss it.

Make sure you visit just before the hour to see the full performance, and check ahead to ensure the head is on! Well worth a visit, you can even enjoy a coffee in the adjacent shopping centre to get an arguably better view of the head as it makes its 15 min routine.

After seeing so many pictures and videos of this piece of art I was still pleasantly surprised by its size and movement. It is situated outdoor so no ticket is needed and it rotated every time I was passing by. Very original and pleasant to watch.

  • 5/5 Mira D. 6 months ago on Google
Loved this rotating head experience. It’s soo random. It turns every hour, so get there at full hour. It takes around 15 minutes. It gets better towards the end, so watch it all. TIP: next to Kafka’s head is a retail park, if you get there early, go to toilet, buy some food, do some shopping, get a take away & then get out & watch the head turning. One to experience, kids loved it too. No sitting places really, will have to stand up or sit on the pavement. A fairly big crowd watching. No tickets, it’s free.

  • 5/5 Birgit 6 months ago on Google

  • 4/5 Aida Akhmetova D. 9 months ago on Google
The show is performing from 9 am to 9pm each hour and lasts for 15 minutes. In front of the statue you have Starbucks, and I advise to take your coffee and have a look at the show. But it’s not the place where I will spend my time for the second time. It’s free of charge, so no need to book in advance.
