Since
the
end
of
the
war,
this
place
has
been
called
Partizan
Square,
i.e.
"Partigo",
because
several
guys
from
here
ambushed
a
German
army.
The
train
at
Strašnické
nádraží,
my
grandfather
also
took
part,
so
I
have
it
firsthand.
It
was
a
patch
of
land
where
we
played
football,
hockey
and
tennis
as
children.
Later,
when
the
subway
was
being
built,
we
experienced
horror,
because
the
workers
wanted
to
make
money,
so
pneumatic
hammers
hammered
the
pylons
all
night,
they
did
not
work
during
the
day.
We
couldn't
sleep
all
night.
After
completion,
they
completely
changed
the
profile
of
the
park
and
built
subway
vents
in
its
center.
Before
that,
the
old
ladies
and
the
old
ladies
used
to
meet
here,
each
of
them
knitted
something,
they
played
football
for
me
and
the
car
drove
by
once
in
the
morning.
And
suddenly,
years
later,
I
read
in
the
newspaper
that
the
square
was
named
after
someone
whom
no
one
here
knows,
no
one
knows
what
he
is.
Why
didn't
they
just
officially
name
it
as
it
was
called
for
years.
I
have
nothing
against
him,
but
this
is
simply
how
people's
memories
are
erased.
That's
why
only
one
star,
my
hometown
deserves
better
treatment.
