A very nice garden to sit and relax in the middle of the city of Prague. It’s a hidden park that if you don’t know about it you don’t believe something like that can be found in the middle of all the busy shopping streets of the city center of Prague. It’s a beautiful garden, full of flowers and benches all around, to sit and enjoy the sun and the birds whistles. Good place also for children, there is a spot for children to play. Nearby there are cafes in 1 entrance and in the other entrance a passage with shops, cafe, ice cream salon and more. Nearby metro is Mustek, A, Green Line.

(Translated by Google) A cozy, secluded garden, hidden in the very center of Prague by massive houses all around the perimeter. A small, several hundred square meters of the garden is more like an internal green courtyard. It should be noted that in 1347, when the garden was laid, its purpose was to be part of the monastery of the Carmelites, suitable for monastic needs and inaccessible to strangers. The garden was used as a subsidiary site of the Order of the Carmelites. In the first half of the 15th century, the Czech state embraced the Hussite movement, which affected the characteristics of the inhabitants of the monastery. The territory came to desolation and in 1604 it was transferred to the Franciscan order. The followers of St. Francis of Assisi repaired the temple, and in the monastery garden they grew fruits and vegetables, greens and flowers, medicinal herbs and spices. Strengthening the Franciscan order in the second half of the 17th century allowed the opening of a bakery and a pharmacy, a hospital and small crafts on the territory of the monastery. After the Second World War, local authorities decided to transfer the Franciscan garden to the city. Since then it is open to visitors. And after the reconstruction, which was carried out in the 90s of the 20th century, the park was renewed with new fountains and acquired a new look at the expense of garden plantings.

Beautiful garden area and very relaxing zone. These gardens were done by the priests and nuns long time ago..you can see the monastery next to the garden. Also there are plenty of coffee shops/restaurants next where you can enjoy a sandwich, salad or some coffee with sweets.

Beautiful gardens in the heart of Prague, well kept, with lots of settings and close to everything. Come here to calm down, enjoy your takeaway lunch or coffee, or have that difficult conversation you are avoiding.

A beautiful green spot where you can rest after roaming the streets of Prague. You can almost not belive that such a place exist after walking through the highly urbanized city center. The entry is free, it i has a play space for kid, shadow, lots of flowers and birds. It can be crowded as there are many ho grab something to eat and come here to have lunch but still worth the visit.

The Franciscan Garden and the Church of Our Lady of Snows can be visited together if you like. Although most people from the area will go mostly to the garden for a takeaway lunch or ice-cream during a work break. The Prague Franciscan Garden WHAT’S THE HISTORY? You have to go back to 1347, the year of the coronation of the famous King Charles IV, Holy Roman Emperor. The day after the coronation he ordered that this land be given to the Karmelites for the purposes of building him a coronation church. As it was outside of the fortified Old Town most of the original church was detroyed during the Hussite wars of the early 15th Century. In 1604 the Franciscans took over the area, repaired the church and added the monastery. THE FRANCISCAN GARDEN Although redesigned several times in it’s life and largely destroyed during the Hussite Wars of the early 15th Century. by the mid 18th Century the Franciscan Garden was now in it’s present French Baroque form with ornate hedging, sculptures and a chapel in the centre (now a craft shop in a herb garden), but it was still privately owned. It’s not until 1950 with the communist takeover and forced arrest of the monks that the Franciscan garden was opened to the public. It was replanted with fruit trees, rose gardens and renovated in the early 1990s but was never returned to the Catholic Church and today remains the property of the city Prague 1 district. WHERE IS THE FRANCISCAN GARDEN? Unbelievably it’s less than 100 metres from Wenceslas Square. The map below shows how it can be accessed in 6 different ways: 1) From Wenceslas Square via Palac U Styblu
2) From Vodickova via the Palac Svetozor
3) From Vodickova via the Mysak Gallery
4) From Palackeho via the Poliklinika
5) From Jungmannova via Teta Passage
6) From Jungmannova Square via the corner next to the church

Small and busy garden in summer. You need to visit this garden because it's fantastic and located in the city center. There are no many parks in the city center of Prague, and this one is great.

You can easily miss the entrance if you do not look carefully but once you are in, the gardens are beautiful. Just in a few minutes from the old town center, and apart from the gardens you also enjoy the playground if you have a minor as we did, although the facilities could be renovated.

Lovely garden tucked away from the crowd. We went in late November and there were still roses in bloom! There is a cute playground for kids with a lot of modules to play on.
