Not worth to spend €12. For the unknown reason you can't take any photo of the library. But I saw some private photos in social media taken by people who joined concerts and other gatherings! Wooden stairs on the top floor are very dangerous. I don't think it's very difficult to renovate the wooden stairs by attaching some metal borders/ plates on the foot steps. 360° rooftop view was enjoyable.

Cool place to visit. As a geographer I thought it was really awesome. You can only get inside with a tour. You cannot get into the library, you'll be able to take a look from the room next. It's probably to preserve the books, which is completely understandable. The tour also takes you up to the tower and you get a cool view from the roof and to the place where the astronomers used to work.

Fun experience visiting this absolutely gorgeous and breathtaking library & astronomical tower. We weren't able to go inside the library room itself, as to preserve it. I wasn't aware of that fact prior to purchasing the guided tour, so I was a bit disappointed , but understand why that rule is in place. Still a great experience!

My wife and I enjoyed walking into history and watching these old books dating back centuries. The architecture is amazing and the library is a must see on your visit to the city. Highly recommended

Accessible only with the guided tour. (50 min duration). If you have the chance it's better to book the tour, not because there are too many people but the number of people allowed per tour it's not too big. Inside you can find first a hall, where photos are forbidden, here you have the access to see the library: it's a pity that you can only look at it behind a barrier and don't really walk around. Up we have the meridian hall, if you are lucky you can see the beam of the light in the proper place and it's cool. On the top we have the astronomical tower and the view here it's very amazing as you can see from the photos. The tour is provided in English and the guide was very good. The entire building complex of klementimum is very wide and I don't give 5 stars because I expected a more wide tour instead of the tower only, but it's worthy.

Great place! Full of history. Organized tours with stories about the library. Unfortunately the library cam only be seen from the entrance door in order to preserve books. Great view of Prague from the tower!

The most beautiful library of the world , very very ornated which holds soooo many books and tge view from the tower was great. Only bad thing is I booked the time slot that was narrated by a Czech speaker but on the website it didn't specify which language will be spoken. Also the time is very limited to be there.

A complex containing one of the most beautiful libraries in the world. The Clementinum is a large complex that once was a university, but which now has been almost entirely converted into a library. The famous Baroque library at the heart of the complex can still be viewed, but pictures are not allowed here. The building can only be accessed on guided tours. The Astronomical Tower is included as part of the tour, and the instruments used to measure midday, as well as the old telescopes are on display. The top of the tower gives great views of the Old Town of Prague.

Don’t let Rick Steves fool you, you will not step foot in the Baroque library. Rest assured that it is for the good of the books, as the floors were being damaged by tourist foot traffic and the humidity could not be controlled. Sadly this means that visitors can only look through the doorway. The 300CZK tour includes around 172 steps to the top of their tower for a nice view. The steps are a tight spiral staircase!

Amazing historical building in the middle of Prague. Visited primarily to view the library which was astonishing. No photos allowed at the library site and can only view from a small platform but still took my breath away. An added bonus was the tour to the tower after visiting the library, where the view was fantastic. Lots of stairs though and no facilities onsite which proved to be confusing after asking for directions to the nearest public toilets.

Interesting to visit because of its uniqueness. Mind the fact visitors cannot, in fact, enter the library. Rather, they are allowed to take pictures from the door.

Price is a bit expensive for what you can get from the guided tour but our guide was amazing. She is very friendly and enthusiastic. I enjoyed all her anecdotes delivered with a slide of humour. You can’t go inside the library (which was off-putting for me to learn) but as the guide explained, it is barred from the public for all the right reasons. You can still take a picture or two (no flash) without any problem. Spiral stairs are a bit of a nightmare for me personally because they aren’t only steep but also small. 360 view up top was worth it though!

Really interesting historical place, especially if you are interested in Astronomy. The guided tour in English was good and we had plenty of time to look around. The library was spectacular! And I didn't expect that we were going to climb all they way up to the tower and get to see the view from the top. It was really cool. I wouldn't recommend this if you are scared of heights and also steep (and old) stairs.

As exhibits, it's not a very rich tour. But, with the help of the information provided by the guide, a young lady who spoke a very good English, this gap was filled. Impressive library but, unfortunately, you can only take a look from the doorstep. Also, the views from the astronomical tower are wonderful .

Clementinum, located in the heart of Prague, is a true treasure that seamlessly blends history, culture, and intellectual pursuits. As one of the largest and most impressive historical complexes in Europe, it is a must-visit destination for those seeking to immerse themselves in the beauty of Prague's heritage. Upon entering Clementinum, visitors are greeted with a sense of awe. The stunning architecture, spanning various periods, creates a harmonious ensemble that showcases the cultural richness of the Czech Republic. From the elegant Baroque-style buildings to the Gothic splendor of the Mirror Chapel, every corner holds a surprise waiting to be discovered. One of the highlights of Clementinum is its breathtaking library. The Baroque Library Hall, adorned with intricately carved bookcases and ceiling frescoes, houses an extensive collection of rare books, manuscripts, and historical documents. Walking through this hallowed space is like stepping into a world of knowledge and intellectual curiosity.

Register online to do the English tour (lasts about 30 mins) and not only learn more about the Klementinum's construction but also about the library and the astronomers. Gorgeous city views from the top of the tower. Stair master glute work out!

A must do when in Prague. The tour guide was extremely good and the views from the Tower are great. The library is a must see although you can only really get a photo opportunity more than a walk around, as it's closed of to the general public. The view from the Tower is worth it. Great value for money and weirdly not busy even though in the city centre!

We were so glad we visited! The views were amazing and the library was beautiful. Book ahead or stop by in the morning to reserve tickets. We went to grab tickets one afternoon and the remaining timeslots were somewhat limited. The steps at the top are super steep, I have a hard time with heights and coming down was a little slow-going for me.

One of most historic landmarks in Prague, the library is old and has many old books one of them from the third century!! You cannot go further inside one two meters and take pictures without flash because they have to maintain certain temperature and humidity! Another cool thing, you can go up to the tower and enjoy the view of the old town from above! Must Visit :)

Great historical place to see. The library itself can only briefly be seen from the outside, but to prevent any damage to this legendary library, this is the right thing to do. The rest of the tour with the astronomy tower, including the view over Prague from the top was breathtaking. Two thumbs up as well to our guide Miro!

When you see the picture you will think that it was in a movie or fictional. But nooo: this is simply the most original and unique library I have ever visited so far in my life. So take a guided tour, you will enjoy the experience definitely. Our guide was super friendly and explained in details the place and the contents displayed or archived there. Try to go in daylight if possible to enjoy the observatory view of all of Prague

  • 4/5 Pieter P. 2 years ago on Google
The library was interesting to see. We had plenty of time on top of the tower to enjoy the view. The tour itself went a bit fast but on the way down there was more time to look at the exhibits in the rooms.

Save your money. You can't take a picture of the main attraction which is the library. Groups of 25 which is a lot during this time of covid and you have to walk up flights of stairs to the top. You get some good views but you might as well go up to the castle and get photos of the city for free.

The baroque library is beautiful but you really do only get a little peek from the door. The tour is interesting, be prepared to climb narrow spiral stairs (a BIG no-no if you’re scared of heights); that being said, they were kind enough to let me take the lift to the the first few floors. Great view from the astronomy tower if you’re okay stepping on to a narrow ledge with fellow tour members jostling/ pushing for a better view / shot...

Great to learn some history but unfortunately you cannot go into the library or even take photos. However they do bring you all the way upstairs to a great view of the city! Beware… do not take the tour if you have vertigo or have trouble going up stairs (there is a very steep staircase and over 190 stairs to climb)

Beautiful building with a baroque library. The tour guide was good and gave good information. Just wished we could have entered into the library, but understand that's for the conservation of the books. The view up at the tower is great.

One of the best touristic spots in town. It is right into historical center of Prague and historic complex of buildings. Inside of Klementinum, you can see baroque library where is amazing. The tour is always guided and takes about 45 minutes. In tour you also visit the tower with a wonderful city view.

Highly recommended to visit. The guide was very explicit. And the view from the astronomic tower stunning.

  • 4/5 Laura O. 1 year ago on Google
Neat place. The library is stunning, although you can only see it from the entrance. You aren't able to walk in at all. The best part in my opinion was the view from the tower. 360 degree view of beautiful Prague. The tour was okay. A bit light on information but what was there was interesting. Beware lots of steep stairs to climb to the tower. There's an elevator to the library, but not the tower. Large tour group size. We just bought our tickets in person. Note that there's no bathroom here.

The library and view are wonderful. I could stay in the library for hours and hours, it’s a shame you can only look in and can’t really enter into it. Our tour guide was mediocre at best, he didn’t really know anything and suggested if we had any questions to google them or go to the National Library next door. The library as genuinely one of the most beautiful places I have ever seen, so it’s definitely worth seeing, just don’t expect much from the tour.

We went to a classical music concert in the church (Vivaldi's Four Seasons) and had the best time. The orchestra was amazing and the acoustics of the church made the entire experience that much more impressive. The ticket was more than reasonable for the hour long concert. I recommend it, if you have the time for it.

  • 4/5 Esti R. 9 months ago on Google
You can’t enter by yourself, you have to pay 300 Krone for a tour that you have to schedule before. The guide was amazing and she described perfectly everything, the library was amazing to see even though you can’t enter. You have to climb a lot of stairs but it pays of in the view above.

  • 3/5 1 2. 8 months ago on Google
I found it overrated. The sightseeing tour lasts only 50 minutes. The tourists are not allowed to enter the library and have only a few minutes to take a look inside. And it is rather dark inside, so you won't see a lot. The overlook terrace is nice, but very narrow, and you have only 10 minutes to take pictures.

I can't describe enough the beauty of this place. ❤️❤️ I was looking for a place to attend a concert as I found no tickets for the opera. And I came across this during a guided tour. To start with, there is a Vivaldi's four seasons concert that happens everyday with 2 different programmes. And it's absolutely not expensive compared to other countries. You can get a discounted ticket as a student for 400 crowns. The sales lady on the counter speaks English and is so friendly. You can pay by card too. The library; the interior is scupper beautiful with a mesmerising baroque art style that actually left me speechless. I can't describe in words the beauty of this place. The ceiling was such an incredible work of art. The music played was heavily. We also had an opera piece. I loooooved it. Please please please visit while in Prague. Don't miss this beauty and of you can get inside the library itself, that's a huge plus. However, there is always a queue for the library during the day.

Be aware of the “first hour 50% off discount” because they only do it if there are sufficient people in the first hour!!!!! Kinda of a scam but okay. Regarding the price it’s okay, not super cheap but at least a nice view and explanation of the library and astronomical tower

It was hard to find this place using google maps. We asked the lady in public library. But it was very interesting. To see this presevrd beauty of 13 century. Awesome. And the view from the tower is great too.

An in-depth guided tour gave us the history of the library and the building. Climbing a steep staircase, on each floor we stopped and our guide would talk if through the purpose of that floor through history. The main library room is heavily restricted as it is extremely well preserved which means it can only be viewed from a small area inside the doorway and the lights are dimmed to help with the presentation. It is no less beautiful though. The view from the top of the tower is one of the best. Tickets sold out very quickly so make sure you book in advance.

Very interesting and cool tour. It lasted about 50 minutes. You get to climb a tight spiral staircase as you learn about the history of astronomy in Prague. You get to see some old astronomical tools. Also key is getting to peek into the library. Unfortunately you cannot enter but you get a good look at the globes and books there. Also, you climb to the top of the tower where you get 360 degree views of Prague. Our tour guide definitely did not like when people took pictures when told not to. Please respect the tour guide.

We were in the Clementinum yesterday and we would say that you should visit it only if you don't have anything to do in Prag. The price is way too high for the things you get: the tour (mandatory) is done by people that you notice that don't have really idea of what they are saying. Our guide said one time "historical stuff". Although Corona is still around, large groups are being crammed into the tiny spaces so that you cannot keep any distance in some parts. Also they have no toilets. The 1 min view on the library and on the town are beautiful but not worth the money and stress. Better use that money in couple of good beers :)

  • 1/5 Sarya S. 3 years ago on Google
So you pay 300 Kc to go up the tower and go down 20-30 min max Filled with random things. Most things there are replicas or don’t even belong to the building Guide was friendly but his English was bad (usually I don’t care for language nor accents but in this case I needed to understand what was going on) I believe seeing it from outside was more than enough :)
