The distinct Gothic twin towers of this church are visible from large portion of old town area. The towers are very ornate with the signature Gothic spires that reached into the skies. It is almost as iconic to Prague as the Eiffel tower for Paris. Visitors are free to enter and visit during the day. It is amazing for a building of this size and scale to be built in 1400s. The furniture inside is Baroque in style, with intricate wood carving altars. There is also an antique organ in the church.

This church is architecturally beatiful. I went to a concert inside the curch and within 1 hour, while listening great music, I was able to look into the details inside the church. There are too many details and if you go for 5-10 minutes, it is hard to appreciate the beauty. Unfortunately visit is not allowed if there are prayer sessions or events. Considering it is built around 14. Century, details are impressive.

Western world has been dominated by Christian theology and had inspired wonderful architecture which is very unique and later dispersed in every corner of the world with Christianity. Prague is no different from rest of the Europe in terms of major Christian city and been designed and visioned by Catholics and Protestants. The city is full of many churches which attests Prague's historical and religious importance in past and present. On of the major church that will attract your sight in Old town square is the Church of Our Lady before Tyn. The Gothic architecture is really very cool and you can recognise that from the top of other building too. This is one of the most important church of the old town and still important part of locals. When I visited Prague in 2015, I tried to see every possible building. I didn't enter in this church as I met a new friend who advised me to go to Prague castle first and then to this church. I clicked few photographs, which I would like to share with you. I hope you will enjoy your vacation in Prague. Stay safe and wear your mask.

Majestic Gothic-style church on Prague’s Old Town Square. Interior of the church features beautiful stained glass windows, vaulted ceilings, and other gorgeous stone elements. Would recommend early visits during the weekday to avoid large tour groups.

(Translated by Google) This cathedral is the decoration of the Old Square. It is especially beautiful at Christmas, when a large fir tree is placed on the square and everything is beautifully illuminated. (Original) Этот собор является украшением Старой площади. Особенно он красив на Рождество, когда на площади ставят большую ель и все красиво подсвечивается.

A spectacular Gothic church with iconic spires This magnificent church towers above the main square of the Old Town of Prague, with two fairy-tale spires. The exterior is one of the most recognisable views of the city of Prague and regardless of the lighting, it is a joy to behold. The interior is reached from the main square by a small corridor past the buildings of the façade. Inside one can see a beautiful Gothic church with mostly Baroque furnishings. One of the most fascinating things that can be seen in this place is the tomb of Tycho Brahe, who was one of the greatest astronomers of his age, and whose observations allowed his pupil Kepler to formulate the Laws of Planetary Motion

Very impressive church, it’s much worth taking a visit inside, it’s fit narrowly between buildings so you can’t see much of the outside, but in the inside it’s really impressive. The visit inside is free which is much appreciated, but you can voluntarily gift €1.5 for the renovation of the church

Tyn Church is the most visible landmark of old town. It looks wonderful during the day and even better at night when it is lit up. Late in the evening after the crowds have gone, it looks like one of the Disney structures. The inside of the church is also very beautiful. Absolutely must see on your Prague visit.

Stunning gothic architecture, you should definitely visit this church If you're visiting in Prague. You can get absolutely amazing views from the main square. The church was built in the 14th century and is 260 feet tall. This is by far one one my favourite buildings in Prague, it has some interesting history behind it that's worth looking into if you're interested.

The Church of Our Lady before Týn is situated in one of the most vibrant and beautiful areas of Prague. The surrounding streets are filled with historic architecture, quaint shops, cafes, and restaurants, creating a lively and colorful atmosphere. The Church of Our Lady in Prague, also known as the Týn Church, is a striking Gothic masterpiece that dominates the skyline of the city. As I approached the church, I was immediately captivated by its soaring spires and intricate façade, which exude a sense of grandeur and spirituality. Stepping inside the Church of Our Lady, I was enveloped by a serene and reverent atmosphere. The dimly lit interior, adorned with magnificent stained glass windows and ornate altars, evoked a sense of awe and tranquility. The architectural details, from the vaulted ceilings to the meticulously carved stone elements, showcased the skill and craftsmanship of the medieval artisans. One of the most notable features of the church is the mesmerizing astrological clock, which stands as a testament to the ingenuity of its time. The clock not only tells the time but also displays the positions of celestial bodies, providing a unique intersection of science and spirituality. Witnessing its intricate movements and rich symbolism was truly awe-inspiring. The Church of Our Lady in Prague is not only a place of worship but also a significant historical and cultural landmark. Its towering presence and remarkable architecture make it an iconic symbol of the city. Visiting this magnificent church is an opportunity to appreciate the artistic and architectural achievements of the past while connecting with a sense of spirituality and history that permeates its walls.

In the 11th century, the Old Town plaza area was occupied by a Romanesque church, which was built for foreign merchants coming to the nearby Týn Courtyard.[1] It was replaced by an early Gothic Church of Our Lady before Týn in 1256. Construction of the present church began in the 14th century. The church was designed in the late Gothic style under the influence of Matthias of Arras and later Peter Parler. By the beginning of the 15th century, construction was almost complete; only the towers, the gable and roof were missing. The church was controlled by Hussites for two centuries, including John of Rokycan, future archbishop of Prague, who became the church's vicar in 1427. The building was completed in the 1450s, while the gable and northern tower were completed shortly thereafter during the reign of George of Poděbrady (1453–1471). His sculpture was placed on the gable, below a huge golden chalice, the symbol of the Hussites. The southern tower was not completed until 1511, under architect Matěj Rejsek.

Once you reach the old town area the Church and its spires are one of the first things that you generally see. Looking around it is hard to see if there is an entrance. You need to go through a passageway in between the restaurants lining the Old Town Square at the base of the church. If you follow that to the end you end up at the entrance of the church. The church itself is quite beautiful on the inside. There is a path that goes around in an anti-clockwise direction so you circle the interior of the church. Just remember to put your phones on silent for people who are praying inside.

Iconic church in the Prague skyline and seen pretty much everywhere in the city. Long queues if you're visiting. a Gothic church and a dominant feature of the Old Town of Prague, Czech Republic. It has been the main church of this part of the city since the 14th century. The church's two towers are 80 m high, and each tower's spire is topped by eight smaller spires in two layers of four. the 11th century, the Old Town plaza area was occupied by a Romanesque church, which was built for foreign merchants coming to the nearby Týn Courtyard. It was replaced by an early Gothic Church of Our Lady before Týn in 1256. The lost Battle of White Mountain (1620) ushered in an era of harsh recatholicisation (part of the Counter-Reformation). Consequently, the sculptures of "heretic king" George of Poděbrady and the chalice were removed in 1626 and replaced by a sculpture of the Virgin Mary, featuring a giant halo made by melting down the chalice. In 1679 the church was struck by lightning, and the subsequent fire heavily damaged the old vault, which was later replaced by a lower Baroque vault. Renovation works carried out in 1876–1895 were later reversed during extensive exterior renovation works in the years 1973–1995. Interior renovation is still in progress.

Brilliant church located in the heart of this old town. Iconic, sacred and beautiful. It is fascinating and important from a historical perspective. I bet that's why it is seen everywhere on postcards, fridge magnets and other souvenirs, and it indeed represents Prague somehow. The lighting at night make it more special especially with the xmas market around. Absolutely a must go in Prague.

by stepping into the main square of the old city and looking at this church, you will unconsciously think about the soullessness of our current architecture in European cities and its differences from its past.

We were most fortunate to have attended an evening of classical music held within this magnificent church in Prague, just off Old Town Square. A fitting locale to hear 11 string musicians play their violins, cello’s and a bass as a soloist sang ‘Ave Maria’ and other, moving and beautiful songs. It’s a pity I am limited to only 30 seconds or less of video per scene and it’s difficult to recreate the emotions that were felt in so small a time frame. Enjoy it.

Review for Church of Our Lady before Týn: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Standing tall amidst Prague's historic heart, the Church of Our Lady before Týn is not just an architectural marvel but a source of inspiration that has transcended boundaries. Its majestic spires, reaching towards the heavens, coupled with intricate Gothic details, make it a sight to behold. There's an enchanting tale whispered through the cobbled streets that this very church influenced the iconic silhouettes of Disney Castles. And as you gaze upon it, the magic becomes palpable, a fairy-tale brought to life against the backdrop of Prague's skyline. In a world where inspiration can be found in the most unexpected places, it's essential to have a guiding force to channel that motivation. Just as this church stands as a testament to human creativity and ambition, in my role as an international video personal trainer and life coach, I strive to help individuals tap into their potential, drawing inspiration from the world around and within them. Whether you're standing in the shadow of architectural wonders or embarking on personal journeys, remember to dream big, aim high, and let the world inspire you. 🌍💪🏼🏰.

Knew it already from postcards etc, but we visited a week ago, in the snow, and its truly magical in the snow, funny how the snow falls of the roof, and many people slipped next to it, the church also strangely looks a bit creepy like a harry potter style tower, also doesnt look like anything else in the world, impressive architecture, also i think that spires on a spire is unique, and how they are orange like lighted is really adding something in my opinion! my advice is to visit prague before christmas time prague is really stunning!

The church that looks like a castle with its turrets and spires! It's almost haunting! It's the main church in the Old Town Square of Prague. Entry is free although it is customary to drop an offering. You're not allowed to take photos inside. Also, the church is closed on Sundays and Mondays. One interesting fact is the Danish astronomer Tycho Brahe is buried here.

One of the best churches in Prague. A must-see located right in the centre. Spectacular main altar and side altars. Beautiful chapels, with a historic church organ. (Translated by Google) Gothic three-nave basilica, the main parish church of the Old Town with a tower height of 80 meters and where the vault of the main nave rises to a respectable 30 meters. The temple was built 160 years ago. Many prominent figures in history are buried here, today we would say VIP. One of them was Tycho Brahe, originally named Tyge Ottesen Brahe, a prominent Danish astronomer, astrologer and alchemist. Sometimes we see his name with the nickname de. He was a nobleman, but in his homeland the name was not presented in this form. Today, the temple is connected by a telephone operator's transmitter (it is located in the south tower). Je zde pohřbeno mnoho význačných postav historie, dnes bychom řekli VIP. Jedním z nich byl Tycho Brahe, původním jménem Tyge Ottesen Brahe, význačný dánský astronom, astrolog a alchymista. The effect was accentuated because it is surrounded by low houses. It has all the appearance of an enigmatic place and, therefore, so attractive. It looked like something out of a detective novel or a thriller. All the info on my blog at elisanievas (.) (Translated by Google) . The Church of the Mother of God in front of Týn is one of the most important churches in Prague. The original Romanesque church belonged to the hospital of merchants in today's Ungelt. In its place was in the 13th century. built an early Gothic church. In Hussite times, the church used to be the main bastion of the Hussites. Church of the Mother of God in front of Týn - the original Romanesque church, first mentioned in 1135, belonged to a hospital of merchants and got its name from a fenced place, Týnský dvor, which was also called. The temple in its current form began to be built in the middle of the 14th century. It was not until 1457 that a truss was made over the main nave, and in the following years, during the reign of King George of Poděbrady, the construction of the western gable took place. In it was erected a king's statue with the inscription Veritas vincit - Truth wins and above it a large golden chalice, into which four gauges of grain fit. The chalice allegedly dates back to early Christian times, but was said to be even older. Although Catholic priests paid several times well to thieves to steal the chalice, no one succeeded. The rare chalice fell into the eyes of the storks, who set up a nest in it and deposited a large number of earthworms, snakes and frogs. The vermin then fell down into the square and the snakes crawled into the streets. The Hussites would like to remove the chalice, but they could not do so for the sake of faith and also for the ridicule of Catholics. The solution was found when the storks flew to warm regions, the Hussites covered the chalice with a large plate (Original) . Vzácný kalich padl do oka čápům, kteří si v něm zřídili hnízdo a nanosili do něj velké množství žížal, hadů a žab.

Breathtaking cathedral, immense and sacred and full of gorgeous art. My only question is why anyone could build a modern building onto the front of a medieval cathedral?

Entrance to the church is free but you can’t give money as a charity to help the church. Inside of the church is for bidden to take photos but of course we didn’t hiding our phones and this is the only place where they didn’t allow us to take the photos at all. Usually they don’t allow to take photos like flash or they don’t allow it to take photos of some saints things. To answer the church must go through the passage in the building and make sure you check when the church is open and when the praying it’s not happening.

No matter how many times you will pass by, every time it will be a breathtaking view. The first floor is a free entry, just go and ask, usually, there is no queue. The church inside is amazing, and the outside architecture is mesmerising.

On the site of a Romanesque hospital church, construction of the Týn Church (Kostel Matky Boží před Týnem) began in the mid-14th century. The church was completed during the reign of King George of Poděbrady. On the shield was a statue of King George, known as the Hussite king, and a large chalice, the symbol of communion in both kinds. In 1626, the sculpture of the king was replaced by one of the Virgin Mary, and the chalice was melted down and made into a halo.
