Amazing church. Architectural wonder. A must visit in Prague!! There is a booklet you can get for a small fee which tells you the history of the church. I would recommend you to get a copy esp if you are visiting on your own to appreciate the many icons and statues in the church. I visited twice during my stay in Prague. Would love to visit again.

Built in 1347 in gothic style, renovated mid-17th century in baroque. The legend of Our Lady of the Snows, comes from Rome. The Roman patrician John and his wife, who were without heirs, made a vow to donate their possessions to the Virgin Mary. They prayed that she might make known to them how they were to dispose of their property in her honour. On 5 August, at the height of the Roman summer, snow fell during the night on the summit of the Esquiline Hill. In obedience to a vision of the Virgin Mary that they had the same night, the couple built a basilica in honour of Mary on the very spot that was covered with snow. This basilica is Santa Maria Maggiore, one of the most important churches in Rome.

One of those baroque churches where you stand with your mouth opened and feel pious even if you usually don't believe in God in Christian sense of word. Definitely worth the visit. Today's size in only a part of historically planned huge church.

Beautiful church, lovely organ, and an excellent comparison against Bethlehem Chapel as my son learns about the Czech Protestant reformatists… We followed Zelivsky’s path from here to the New Town Hall (we didn’t throw anyone from a window!)… We love walking in the footsteps of history…

Very underrated church, completely empty at the morning (9-10 am), it’s giant and the baroque altar is 30 meter high and very impressive. The building was started by the king Charles IV, and it was supposed to be the coronations church. The size was supposed to be the same as the St. Wit’s Cathedral, but the Hussite wars stopped the building. When the building started again, it was finished in reinessance style. The building remains the tallest gothic church in Prague.

A beautiful gothic church that we first couldn't tell by the exterior appearance. We were so lucky to encourage ourselves to enter the church to find its magnificently beautiful interior.

A high and beautiful church in the Old Town The church was never fully completed. It was meant to be much larger, but in fact the church seen today was only intended to be a section of the originally planned church. However the wars of the late Middle Ages disrupted the construction. The church is quite beautiful on the interior and there are the nearby Franciscan Gardens that are worth visiting as well.

Come here with a good tour guide and you will learn a lot about the different church altar. Do remember to climb up to the second floor and enjoy a bird eye view of the church.

Off the beaten path but worthy a little detour after strolling Vaclavské nám. Not many visitors makes experience more intimate. Interior just marvelous- just look at the photos.

Beautiful place. Worth to go. Entrance is 100 CZK. Be aware that currently there is a reconstruction, so you can visit only one half of the second floor balcony. Also organ was dismantle

Who wouldn’t love having a beer in a shaded churchyard? We saw this Biergarten on a walking tour and had to go back there. The beer was excellent as was our snack. However the atmosphere was the best part.
