This monument stands in tribute to Woodrow Wilson, the American president who was partly responsible for the creation of the League of Nations, and whose support for an independent state of Czechoslovakia is a poignant reminder of the state before the terrible events of the Second World War. The monument is a bronze sculpture of Wilson standing wearing a suit with a cloak. Both of his hands are placed in front, palms facing forward in a gesture of peace Behind him is a throne like chair. Stylistically, the sculpture is very similar to sculptures depicting Abraham Lincoln in similar poses, but this one is not quite as monumental. The monument is worth as quick detour as it’s in the grassy area just in front of Prague central station, otherwise I wouldn’t go out of the way to see it.

Hmm.... There is an interesting history of a statue of American President Woodrow Wilson. It was erected in 1928 in honor of his role in the creation of Czechoslovakia. Although much of Prague was spared the total destruction that faced many old towns of Europe during the Second World War, the Germans did manage to destroy this statue in 1941. In 1946, a plaque was erected noting that it was the site of the statue and that it would soon be rebuilt. It took 65 years, but the statue was finally reinstalled in 2011. However, the park is now cluttered with homeless people and you'll find that they like to gather at times at the statue's base.

The original monument to Woodrow Wilson was ceremoniously unveiled at the main (then Wilson) railway station on July 4, 1928, as part of the celebration of the ten-year anniversary of the creation of Czechoslovakia. The author of the statue was Albín Polášek and the architect Bohumil Hübschmann designed the monument. The monument was torn down and destroyed in 1941 by the German occupation army. The statue of the American president returned in front of the station after 70 years - it was ceremonially unveiled on October 5, 2011. The restoration of the 3.5 meter high monument was initiated and financed by the non-governmental non-profit organization American Friends of the Czech Republic (AFoCR). The statue is the work of the sculpture studio of Michal Blažek. (Translated by Google) A stupidly placed statue to look in Prague, instead of creating a natural walkway that would follow the crossing from Jerusalem Street, it will include a statue to the main entrance to the station. It should be moved somewhere and a pavement should be built in its place. Moreover, today's quote about democracy seems more like a cruel joke. Let us remove the statues of politicians for me, just as we removed the statues of Stalin and Lenin (although the Marx are still waiting for us) and let the greenery grow in their place.

(Translated by Google) Woodrow Wilson can finally look at the park without questionable existences. What I was going through now, I didn't see any homeless or other dubious people. A replica of the bronze statue of American President Woodrow Wilson, it was created by the sculpture team of Václav Frýdecký, Michal Blažek and Daniel Talavera. The statue is located on a high pedestal. There are several steps under the plinth. On the side of one of them you will find the text "THE WORLD MUST BE SAFE FOR DEMOCRACY". From the current point of view, the statue is supposed to symbolize allied relations between Czechs and Americans. Although the surroundings of the statue are maintained, it is often not a pleasant environment. The place is located near the main train station and at the same time a metro station. The surrounding benches are often overcrowded with persons of "dubious existence" (by this I do not mean foreigners, but various homeless people, drug addicts, alcoholics, etc.). Therefore, the space here is not so calm and pleasant.

If you access from a Metro station exit on the ground, you will see this long benches with people sitting (looks like homeless people). You don't feel safe to walk though this area nor want to be near even in a daytime.

(Translated by Google) The truth is that it is not possible to stay in these places from the main station. At least not without risk. Do not even think of the risk. So I never really looked at the statue, let alone photograph it. That's why neither the statue nor the statesman really deserve it. Well, what. Visitors to Prague will not resolve this spot on the beauty of the metropolis and local leaders ...? To si tedy ani ta socha, ani státník skutečně nezaslouží. No, co už. Návštěvníci Prahy tuto skvrnu na kráse metropole nevyřeší a místní představitelé ...?

(Translated by Google) The monument is great, but I'm quite worried about the collection that moves in the park. Who did this? The journey from the metro to the tram is my nightmare even during the day, because it never happened to me that someone would not want something from me (cigarettes, money for boxes!). Not really this ... Lots of junkies and alcoholics, it's awful. Not to mention at night!

(Translated by Google) Our ancestors, the founders of Czechoslovakia, thought well that every visitor arriving by train to Prague would see our gratitude to the American president, who finally nodded Czechoslovak independence. They built a beautiful monument. Today, this statue is silently a witness of the worst thing in society you will come across the Vrchlický Set at the Main Train Station, they are disgraceful, they have not done their job any longer, I do not know anyone who would just like to sit there.

Head of the Czech Republic Prague and International Railway Station. Very nice environment, open weather outside, inside market and platform. The service of the staff is very beautiful. There is a metro station just below the railway station above. There are also tram and bus services outside . All in all, you will get all the services of the International Station here.

Was a nice statue. It features Wilson with his arms stretched out ready to spread democracy and his dog size eagle carrying his tool kit. The statue was very high just like his standards. It is a statue outside the train station. Doesn't appear that he ever came to county or did anything here.

(Translated by Google) The sculpture of Woodro Wilson by Czech sculptor Albin Polasek in Prague was re-erected in 2011. The monument was first erected in 1928 in gratitude for Wilson's support for Czech independence after World War I, but was destroyed during the Nazi occupation of the country in 1941.
