The two-storey basement neo-renaissance villa is not only the dominant feature, but also the real center point of the whole park. Such villas were built in the last third of the 19th century by the business elite, to which Gröbe definitely belonged. The owner chose the architect Antonín V. Barvitius, a graduate of the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts, Eduard van der Nüll and August Sicard von Sicardsburg, to build his villa. The author of the interior designs was Josef Schulz, who also designed other nearby buildings - the Pavilion and the Vineyard Gazebo. The foundation stone for the building was laid on June 1, 1871. After Gröbe's death in 1891, his heirs did not use the complex. In the years 1902–1905, the space was leased to the imperial and royal family of the Habsburgs. For example, Princess Elizabeth, the daughter of Crown Prince Rudolf and the granddaughter of Emperor Franz Joseph I stayed here. Today it is used for renting conferences, seminars and other private events. The whole building has been a protected monument since 1964. Majitel si ke stavbě své vily vybral architekta Antonína V. Barvitia, absolventa vídeňské Akademie výtvarných umění v ateliérech Karla Roessnera, Eduarda van der Nülla a Augusta Sicarda von Sicardsburga. V letech 1902–1905 prostor pronajali císařské a královské rodině Habsburků. Pobývala zde například princezna Alžběta, dcera korunního prince Rudolfa a vnučka císaře Františka Josefa I. Nakonec vilu i s pozemky odprodali v roce 1905 vinohradské obci a ta 16. května 1906 areál zpřístupnila pod názvem Havlíčkovy sady. Dnes slouží k pronájmům pro pořádání konferencí, seminářů a dalších soukromých akcí. Celý objekt je od roku 1964 památkově chráněn.

Lovely large park in nice area of Prague. The concrete grotto is what the Victorians would call a “folly” and is definitely worth a visit. It’s in the middle of the park near the gates at the intersection of Kopemikova and Havickovych streets.

(Translated by Google) One of the coziest and most inspired places in Prague. A place of rest for townspeople, dates of lovers, walks with children, quiet contemplation. Mothers with strollers, athletes on the tracks, companies on the grass. A beautiful villa inside a great park. The villa was in very bad shape after 1989, but has since been carefully restored. Note however that it is not open to the public. The villa is maintained by the Rule of Law CEELI institute. Also note that you cannot drive into the park. If you're going to the villa, take metro to Namesti Miru, then take tram or walk. If coming by taxi, ask the driver to drop you at the entrance to the north-east of the park.

A unique piece of Czech history. I was lucky enough to see it in a private tour. But the park is probably the most fun public park in Prague. Just don't tell anyone or we'll get all the tourists in our neighborhood :-)

(Translated by Google) The villa is very beautiful inside and is located in a wonderful park. There is an observation deck in front of the villa, and the park itself - with lanterns, a pond and a grotto. At night, the atmosphere is fabulous. At night, the park closes. (Translated by Google) The central place in the Gavlichekovsky park is occupied by the Moritsa Grebe Villa. It was built in the neo-Renaissance style, designed by architect Antonin Barvitio. The architect put the forms of summer houses of Italian nobles into the basis of his project. During the last reconstruction of the villa, decorators were very careful about its interior decoration, especially on the first two floors. So, under the pediment, frescoes in the Greek style, depicting the games of little angels, are preserved, and on the second floor there are stucco ceilings. On the lower level of the building is a terrace and a two-flight staircase leading to the vineyards.
