Amazing Building Facade. We didn't see it during the night when we arrive but was one of the first things that stood out during the day. The painting on the house was really impressive.

(Translated by Google) The architectural appearance of the house is difficult to characterize with a specific style: it combines the elements of the Czech Neo-Renaissance and Gothic, and the cellars completely retained the features of romanticism. Initially, on the site of the Storkhovy house was a building of the 15th century, which changed many names: At the Black Doors, At the Black Gates, At the Stone Virgin Mary. In the 19th century, it was bought by the publisher Alexander Shtorkh under the name Marshalkovsky House, after which the building got its modern name. In 1896-1897, the new owner of the house underwent reconstruction under the direction of the Austrian architect Friedrich Oman. During perestroika, builders unexpectedly discovered an old Gothic bay window. Despite the fact that this decorative element did not correspond to the neo-Renaissance concept of reconstruction, it was decided to restore it and leave it on the facade of the building. A surprise for the builders was not only a bay window, but also a hidden little Gothic chapel. After the demolition of one of the inner walls, a room was found behind it without a single entrance and exit with a table on which the sword lay. The purpose of the mysterious Chapel of the Storch House is still a mystery to historians. During the Prague uprising at the end of World War II, the building was badly damaged by a fire, but in 1948 it was restored. For a long time, the house was occupied by the printing house and the Storch bookstore, and today it houses one of the many souvenir shops in Prague. The latest restoration of the eclectic facade dates back to 1993.

At number 16 on the south side of the Old Town Square is the ever-popular Storch House (Štorchův dům) aka the House of the Stone Madonna, which boasts arguably the most beautifully painted facade of Prague’s medieval buildings. The medieval house probably originates from the 15th century and was reconstructed in Neo-Renaissance and Neo-Gothic style in 1896-1897 when bookseller and publisher Alexander Storch took over the house. Storch had it adorned with a series of figurative murals. The murals are divided into 4 sections. The bottom part shows scientific and astronomical study, the middle parts contain the seal of the City of Prague squeezed between four windows, and Saint Wenceslas on horseback while the top part shows the Three Wise Men.

I recently had the opportunity to visit the Storch House (Štorchův dům) Ques abode, also known as the House of the Stone Madonna. Built in the 15th century, it was later restored in neo-Renaissance and neo-Gothic style in 1896-1897 by Alexander Storch, bookseller and publisher. The latter frescoed the house with a series of figurative frescoes, divided into four sections. The lower part depicts scientific and astronomical studies, the central parts show the seal of the City of Prague surrounded by four windows and Saint Wenceslas on horseback, while the upper part features the Three Kings.
