Awful, awful pet store. This place needs to immediately be shut down. I wish I could give it 0 starts. The puppies don't even have a place to lay down, they're forced to sleep on the wiring of their cages. Not only that, but one look you can see that they're very ill, dirty, and don't even have toys. They have 30+ rats in this tiny one-goldfish sized tank, no toys, no bedding, no nothing. Even product-tested rats are required to have better living conditions then theses guys do. The ferrets are in this TINY, TINY cage, as a pet owner of two ferrets, I was disgusted to see how they are treating them. They have no toys, and are charged at such ridiculous prices no one would ever buy them. They've probably just been sitting there for years, no toys, no attention, nothing. The birds were probably the worst of all, their "cages" (If you can even call it that) didn't even have a top to them. That means that just anyone can reach in there and grab a bird. There must have been 25 birds coddled together in a container sized cage. The only thing inside their cages was ONE food bowl, and ONE water bowl, nothing else. Those birds were so stressed most of them had resorted to feather picking. I was so disgusted I left before seeing the cats or reptiles. This is animal abuse, and it needs to be shut down and stopped. All this, "pet store" is doing is leaving hundreds of animals to rot away and die.

This place is the epitome of everything wrong in the animal industry. Puppy mills, deplorable conditions, neglect, exploitation. All for profit. What takes the cake is the cruelty of the conditions of Frankie. That poor animal is suffering, they all are, but him especially. How the staff and especially the owner can sleep at night knowing that intelligent creature is being held captive and lacking everything that he requires to thrive, I will never understand. The owners of the store don’t even pretend to care about him or the quality of life of any of the animals there. His aggressive behavior is purely a product of their cruelty and his environment. They can’t even enter the cage without him attacking the staff. When I went here as a child, I thought seeing him was interesting, but as an adult, I now see the pure neglect and suffering that he is going through. I was ignorant and now as an adult I left the store empty handed but walking out with a sick feeling in my stomach that all those animals are living in such deplorable conditions and nobody is doing anything about it. The law may not be on Frankie’s side, but I beg the owners to listen to petitions and surrender Frankie to a sanctuary. If Frankie isn’t released from his prison, I believe it would be more humane to euthanize him than to continue to allow him to suffer for many more years, and potentially hurt or kill someone.

We loved our visit! We were researching info on hedgehogs to help make our decision on whether or not to get one for our 15yr old daughter. Staff was super helpful, patient with us & all of our questions and very knowledgeable! They actually helped our daughter get a YES from us on getting a hedgehog! 🤷‍♀️ While we didn't purchase the hedgehog from the store we decided to take one in that needed to be re-homed. On a side note..... the MONKEY 🥰 it truly was like a visit to a small zoo, we really enjoyed seeing everything! Happy 44 years Pet Stop!!

I honestly wanna love this place but they have a monkey in there, and he always seems very miserable when I go everytime. That says alot..... Besides that the shop is usually pretty clean. Have nice variety of fish and reptiles. I like some of the new staff I've been seeing. Very nice and helpful. But they gotta do better and make the monkey happy, I understand he's probably old but then retire him and let him sunbathe and be around other monkeys.

Pet Stop is my favorite pet store in the Kansas City area. The store has an extensive animal selection. I am most impressed by their birds, rats, freshwater fish, and reptiles. They oddly have a not-for-sale monkey in the middle of the store. The store allows you to interact with and hold the animals, which most stores won’t let you do. My only gripe is the store sells puppies kept in small kennels.

I bought canaries at this store in July. Now we are in November and one of the canaries I bought in a pair has passed away. I take very good care of all of my birds I have. This is the first time I have had a bird only last 5 months.

People are very friendly. But Monkey in the cage seems neglected. He's been there for 8 years I've been going. Dogs...or I should say ONLY Pups that go for $1,000.00 and up. Never see people buy them. Makes me feel like it's a puppy mill. Sorry

Sue was a great help to this fresh water aquarium newbie and took time to explain water properties. I came in thinking I needed better stuff and instead of selling me a bunch of things she took time to explain how a new tank has to cycle. I'll be back for supplies. Peace of mind was priceless.

This is my favorite pet store to go to because they always have everything I need for my fish and it's great being able to see all the pets and it's fun just to look around there.

An old school, locally owned pet store with a little bit of everything. Fish, snakes, accessories, puppies, live rats, mice, fuzzies and pinkies, crickets, a monkey, a nice dog walking around, it has everything. Support local

As my wife and two year old son moved through this pet store, I was educated on everything I was interested in. I really appreciate these guys. This was hands down my best experience in a pet store. And they have a monkey!

Great stop for pet owners and enthusiasts. There are few pets that they allow you to handle before you decide to purchase them like the ball pythons, iguanas and the skinks. Very friendly staff and the animals are decently priced as well. Would definitely recommend this place to get your next pet. Unlike some big store in the game, these guys pay attention to their animals and looks like they are providing what they want.

I am beyond grateful I purchased my Japanese chin (puppy) from Pet Stop. It was truly love at first sight. They made everything so easy, and ensure that pets will be well taken care of by the owners by including a 10-year pet warranty as long as you keep up on routine maintenance. They also offered a $100 in-store voucher/gift card to use on new puppy items. My dog was obviously well taken care of at Pet Stop, as he is properly crate trained and mostly potty trained (save for the very few excitement accidents in the first week). He is healthy and such a happy boy. The staff who helped me went above and beyond. We will definitely be back for many visits and just to say hi to our favorite pet store people! 😊

My kids have been asking for fish for quite some time. I finally broke down and visited my favorite pet store from my childhood! I don't know where to begin with setting up a tank and the young man I asked for help, did so willingly. He answered all the questions I had about starting up. We left with a tank and the things we need to start our tank. We will return in a few weeks to get our fish. Very pleased with the service we received here.

I dunno. Haven't actually been in for years, but the $5k puppies certainly scream puppy mill, but i don't know for certain on that. We have bought 2 pet rabbits for our kids, and one quickly died, the other nearly did, but after 3 days and nights where the very loving vet took him home overnight, giving him meds every 2 hours, he luckily lived. I dont remember how much that cost us, but there was no compensation, just an offer to replace, which we didn't bother with. Handy spot for quick supplies, but ill never buy pets there again...

I found this place online wanting to find new places to purchase fish and to just look at the animals. Everything was clean, the animals had plenty of space. Although the dogs had no mats or anything to lay on. Not sure if their kept in those small cages all the time. They have a monkey in the middle of the store. Was around a really nice place to go! Has tons of cool pets!

Ok. The Pet Stop is one of my favorite places on the planet. The fish I've purchased have thrived. There's a monkey. Jungle sounds and snakes and tarantulas. You can touch a rabbit.. and there's a monkey. It's the best.

The staff are always helpful. I love this store. However it is a little on the expensive end. Other than that I drive 30/35 mins to get here and it's worth it. If you are reading this, say hi to Frankie!
