I've been to a lot of county museums. Most just have displays of items that various people donated in hand-me-down display cases. But this one is really well-designed. Very large displays take advantage of the large space of this former bowling alley/skating rink. I was delighted to see the main theme being a 50's and 60's suburbia. The feature is a model all-electric house they somehow brought inside. Price is very reasonable. Plan on an hour.

That was such a hidden gem! We were driving through the state and just needed our kids to move around a little bit. Turned out to be an absolutely incredible place both for adults and kids! I can’t believe it’s $6 only! Loved it! Thank you so much for your work, we loved every minute here.

It is a very nice museum to learn a bit of local history. It was $6 for adults, and not very busy, so I didn’t feel rushed going through the exhibit. The electric house inside the museum is very nice as well.

I don't think we've been more impressed with a county museum than this one. We know more about Johnson County than the one we live in and it has an impressive history, especially in race relations. They had a wonderful exhibit on "Red Lining"; see it before it closes. The KidsZone was fun for our kids but it was because of playing with other kids. I'd say no older than 10, and that might be a little much.

Small but interesting museum. Definitely great for kids and adults. I would say it’ll take 30 mins, up to an hr if you like history and look at all the displays. If the kids are done early, there’s a kids play area so you can continue looking while they play.

They have a military rate but when we got there they stated that they are blue star so for us it was free for the summer. They have a super colorful very hands on museum that the kids loved while we got to read some of the information. Then they have a very nice kids play area! No strollers, drinks, or food allowed in the kids area. They have a family restroom with a changing table right by the kids area. My 2 year old was in heaven playing in cars, trains, being a dr to babies, and shopping for apples at the market! But older kids were there having fun too. It was clean and fun.

Spectacular! I’ve been a resident of Kansas City since 2005 and I’d never before been to this museum. It wasn’t really even on my radar. What a treasure this is for Johnson County. So much history and insight into how the area developed. The 1950s all-electric house was great, and the exhibit on “redlining“ was very interesting. So all I can say is, “RUN! Don’t walk!” Go check this place out.

A THROWBACK IN TIME & FUN EXPERIENCE. This entire building is fun, interactive, and immersive as soon as you enter the front reception area. NOTE: This building includes the (1) Overland Park History Museum (2) Johnson County Museum (3) and other spaces for other services. The museum contains a full sized replica model home that sits as the main installation of the exhibit. You're able to walk through the front door, passing by a front yard that includes iconic Americana house goods. Walking through the house sends you back in time. The entire exhibit is covered in signage and packed with items from history. It's a great learning experience and visually put together. PARKING: Park right out front for free. ALSO VISIT: Overland Park History Museum on the inside

Very interesting museum. Great variety of displays. The indoor house is very nice and historically accurate. The miniature train is very cute and a delight to watch go around the track. The blue vehicle by the house is very well detailed and taken care of. This time period of prosperity was interesting to read and learn about. Overall, a great museum to visit for all ages.

I learn something new every time I visit, and the rotating exhibit space tends to have some really interesting slices of history. Especially if you're a JoCo transplant, it's incredible how much this area has transformed over a short period of time. The museum's exhibits and programming are an insightful and engaging way to explore how Johnson County's history has unfolded, both glamorous and ugly, and consider the possibilities for what's to come.

3/16/2023. I read online that they have a kid area and it's "free day" so I decide to come for the first time and bring my 2 kids (6yo and 4yo). Arrived at 2:30pm. I was told by front desk that because it is free day, they have limited entries to Kidscape. The current one was at capacity and the next entry would be at 3:30pm. I was told I could walk around to check out the actual museum exhibit and then come back to the front to get a wrist band for my kids for the 3:30 slot. So i did exactly that. I got to the front desk at 3:30 and was told it was at capacity AGAIN. But they did give me a "free pass" to come back another day when it's "less chaotic". On free days- PLEASE let parents know ahead of time to come to the front desk and get a wrist band SEVERAL minutes before the entry time. I still don't know why i wasn't given a wristband the moment i walked in , that way i would've had it with me to go into Kidscape as soon as the time came. The JOCO museum itself is great. I need to come back without my kids to really take the time to read everything. My favorite part was the 1950s electric house. It was amazing. Reminded me of my grandparents house. Nostalgic.

Went to Kidscape with our 1.5-year-old grandson. He had a blast. Also took time to walk through the museum and learn more about the history of Johnson County. This is a great place to visit. If there's more than four of you, you may want to consider the "family" ticket, which is less expensive.

This was an awesome museum! A nice timeline of the history of the area. The model 1950s all electric home was fascinating. The children's area was super interactive and varied for the amount of space they had. We had a lovely time.

Great value for ticket price! Excellent background of Johnson county history! Fantastic children's interactive play area! Great for all ages! Rotating display section! Plenty of parking. Not crowded at all!! Full size 50s house and car to explore!

This is a refreshingly unique building located in a repurposed recreational facility. The museum is located downstairs after paying a small entrance fee at the front desk. The museum is easy to navigate and is accessible and accommodating. On the weekend it wasn’t even busy and took about an hour to read each of the facts about Johnson County. This was a cheap and fun outing I’d recommend to history buffs and non-history buffs alike.

This is an amazing place for kids to express themselves and inspire imagination! The membership (at $60 for the family) is absolutely worth it. There is no food or drinks allowed in the play area but they provide a nice seating area upstairs to enjoy your lunch!

Very cool little museum! Took my 4 teenage/preteen kids here and we all enjoyed it. Not too big but there is plenty of stuff to see. Really liked the old Bel Air and the model home. The kids, even though they're older, had fun in the play area. Definitely worth a visit!

Thoroughly enjoyed the exhibits. Every staff person we encountered was very friendly and helpful. I didn't answer the price question since you have a range of prices. Seniors are only $5

I have 3 and 12 yr old that love going to museums. This is by far one of their favorites. The kid zone is fun for them. Plenty of interactive things to do while walking through the museum.

Great day trip for people of all ages. Kidscape is my favorite place to bring my kids when we need to get out of the house. It’s self-contained, which is HUGE when you have 4 kids like I do! The museum itself is very interesting, and the electric house is so cool for everyone to see what life in Johnson County used to be like. Highly recommend!!

I Loved the 1950's home built inside the museum! Not all the accessories were accurate, but this home was incredible! The other exhibits were also very well done, yet some biases against JoCo were not pleasant to read. Great visit.

I Love the Johnson County Museum…why well there is a new special exhibit about 2 times a year. It is affordable. I really like seeing the all electric house from the 60’s with all it’s time capsule furnishings and decor. I also like how they decorate it at Christmas with it’s tinsel tree. This home used to be 2 blocks from me when it was donated to the museum and moved per wide load trucks to the previous location of the museum. I also like all the history about JoCo and the civil war. Plan on 1.5 to 2 hours if you like to read everything.

I never even knew this existed and I live in Olathe. I wish I would have because the history involved with this museum is awesome. It really gives you a feel for how Johnson county was before this era in time!

This has a nice little area with models of landmark businesses in the area but my granddaughter says the kids area is the BEST! Small areas set up as different businesses with all the equipment let the imaginations fly. There are letters to deliver in the post office, play food and magnetic menu and diner stools at the diner , patients in the hospital and tons of play produce in the farm market . There is also a city hall, police department, school, house, and pioneer wagon. We played a couple of hours and could have played more.

What a cool museum! We happened to go on a free day but it would have been worth the price of admission. Definitely worth checking out!

We went there once in 2018 and wasn't expecting much, but honestly it was one of the best museums we visited in NE Kansas. The collection and layouts were amazing.
