A really nice place to stay and the food is excellent. My partner and I stayed for one night and although the restaurant was fully booked, we were reserved a table in the bar area. We were served by Tracey who was absolutely brilliant. Polite, attentive and very friendly. She worked her socks off all night which didn't go unnoticed. Not quite 5 stars as our room was situated above the kitchen and quite loud and the smell from the kitchen was very noticeable.

We spent 2 nights at the Golden Lion. All the staff were very friendly and efficient the service was first class. The food is delicious we ate breakfast and dinner both days. Our room was very comfortable and clean. Settle is a lovely town with stunning walks on the doorstep lots of cafes and a couple of good pubs. We would definitely recommend

Very average fayre. Waitress very pleasant over serve was not great. 20 min wait to try to order a second round of drinks so ended up going to the bar to place my order, obviously headed my words that we'd been waiting to long to order this as wasn't much longer after our drinks arrived. Food again very average battered prawns were menst to be tempered yet the better was thicker any tempura I'd ever had before maybe it was mixed up with the suet pastry. The suet pudding nicely filled and filling was tasty but the pastry was too salty. Would go again but would try all other places in settle first.

Really nice pub/restaurant/hotel. Great drinks selection and good food. Lovely spacious beer garden, and once again dog friendly, both bar and rooms. Would recommend

The room and the bathroom were quite small for the price, plus the room was facing the courtyard. The shower head had been changed at some point, and it wasn't fitting properly in the holder. This resulted in a couple of fights with the hose wagging left and right. My girlfriend found it hilarious, so I'd say it's 50% negative and 50% positive. The absence of a fridge was another thing I was not expecting from a 4 star, but it wasn't a major issue and to be honest I didn't check when booking, so it is kinda my fault. That said, the staff was absolutely great, the food was excellent, the portions were more than fair and the overall experience was a solid 8/10!

Beautiful pub, let down by terrible service. We visited yesterday and placed a food order, after forty minutes we enquired how much longer it would be as it wasn’t busy, only to be told that there had been a change of chefs and it hadn’t been done! When it did arrive the waitress told me the plate was extremely hot and then promptly left it to my left so I had to move the plate for it to be in front of me. The veg was cold and had to be replaced. No real apology, they didn’t seem that bothered. I won’t be returning.

We stayed for two nights and really enjoyed the pub atmosphere as it's a real meeting point for walkers, friends and generally socialising. We stayed as we had tickets for the Settle to Carlisle railway and the station is 5 minutes walk from the Golden Lion. The evening menu was extremely tasty but as they were introducing their summer menu the next day a couple of items were not available which we totally understood, but this didnt stop us having fabulous evening meals on both nights. All the staff were very attentive and polite which seems to be a theme with Shire Inns. Well done to all.

What a lovely, friendly place to eat with the nicest staff I've met in a long time. Had a lovely Sunday lunch there, too, with our dig in tow. Welcoming, cosy, and warm ✨️

Superior room approx £160 per night. Too expensive. In great need of refurbishment and disappointed that window faces out onto air conditioning unit and wall. No view. Shower room has plumbing difficulties!! Also had to put kettle on the floor to boil it. That said the bed was very comfy, the food is good (breakfast excellent) and the staff were welcoming and very chatty. Great location in the centre of Settle, which is a beautiful place. We would go back but until refurbishment goes ahead would not book expensive room.

Had a great meal here with a group of friends after walking in the area. We just walked in and luckily there was space for us. The food was lovely and everyone enjoyed their meal. I had the pie of the day and it was great!

Nice big room, clean and very friendly staff. Breakfast and dinner in the hotel was good, staff left us out some cold breakfast for our early exit for hiking which was appreciated. Only draw back was the noisy bar next door and the rooms are quite hot.

Lovely cozy pub, food was nice but service was average. We had to ask for more drinks after waiting about 15 minutes for a member of staff , then again for the dessert menu. When asked for the bill I paid in cash and was asked if I wanted my change ???? I have never left a pub or restaurant without leaving a tip after a nice meal but I’ve never been asked if I wanted change either.Just thought it was a bit rude. A couple of the staff were really nice and friendly it’s a shame that one member of staff let the others down.

Had a meal so review is just about that (not the rooms). Food was nice quality, served piping hot, good portions. We had to wait just under 1he for our food to arrive - they were busy but still felt this was too long for the simple mains we ordered. Prices reasonable (around £16 for a main). Service ok but nothing to write home about.

A very relaxing stay at the Golden Lion. All staff encountered were very friendly and helpful. (Jamie, Will, Miles, Honey, Lucy also a couple we didnt catch there names apologies for that) From booking with Jamie over the phone, a warm welcome on arrival from Will and a hug from lucy as we left! Also Miles asking how I was when I had mentioned the previous evening being a little off colour 🙂 Thank you Miles! The food was excellent, very good quality and service. Also good sized portions. My husband enjoyed the settle pudding so much he had it both nights!! Breakfast was excellent too!! The beds are very comfortable with lovely squashy pillows 🙂 also luxury toiletries and tea etc. We found our room and bathroom very clean. Our room was on the front so some road noise to be expected (although there are ear plugs supplied to help with that) very quiet through the night in the hotel. Brilliant location for the railway which was the purpose of our stay, approximately 5 minute walk. No carpark on site but don't be put off by this, it's a very short walk to a couple of car parks and you can drop your luggage at the hotel before getting parked up. We definitely hope to return one day and would definitely recommend Thank you 🙂

Great stay and the staff were really friendly and accommodating. Food was great, both evening meal and breakfast, in which they did a great job catering to my coeliac disease. While it's not a gluten free kitchen, I was assured that extra care was taken when preparing my meal. Rooms were spacious and comfortable, bed was amazing too.

This is a lovely place to go for a meal, or just for a drink. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful and service is good. There's a lovely log fire which makes it very cosy on a cold day. It's a dog friendly pub that provides drinking bowls and blankets for their 4 legged visitors. I haven't stayed overnight here so can't comment on the rooms...Definitely worth a visit..🙂

Went for lunch with friends. War. Welcoming pub with very friendly and helpful staff. Excellent meals and nice drop of beer. All round a very pleasurable experience.

You'd be excused for thinking this pub was going to be on the small side from the low entrance right on the pavement in Settle. But once inside its huge! Very warm both in the greetings from staff and the temperature of the lounges. Didn't have food but the selection of beers and hand pulled ales were superb. Decent selection of crisps too! Very dog friendly with free treats on the bar. Will definitely back soon.

A very quaint little town for a stop over on the way to the Lake district. Very reasonable price, excellent location with a good ambience and great dinner and breakfast. The sausages were especially nice. Recommend if you're on your travels in that direction.

What a lovely place to spend the evening. The staff are so welcoming and the service was excellent. Thoroughly enjoyed the food, which was very reasonably priced. Many thanks to the staff for such a lovely evening. Definitely going back soon!

Possibly the best breakfast roll in Yorkshire, combined with lovely warm and relaxing surroundings throughout. Great coffee too and really happy to allow me to work from the lounge whilst my car was in for a service and MOT. Thank-you.

We have just come back from 2 nights at the Golden Lion. It was a fantastic place to stay, completely central and I can't say anything other than good things to say about it. The room was lovely, the food was so tasty and the staff were incredible. They couldn't do any more to make us feel welcome and went out of there way to help us. They were all incredible but big thanks to Abbie and Will for going the extra mile. Thanks again and hopefully be back again soon:)

Wonderful, friendly service as soon as we arrived. They greeted us with a smile, looked after my dietary requirements and brought drinks to the table after recognising my disability. Nothing was too much trouble. They even gave our dog her own water bowl to drink from and gave her some lovely attention throughout our evening meal when appropriate. The food was delicious and really good value for money. We cannot wait to come back again in the future!

Family visiting from abroad, so we stopped in this lovely place for a good, solid lunch before we got on to a great walk later. I didn't stay here, so the stars above reflect the bar and dining area downstairs only. Great range of ales to keep me happy, which also resulted in a mini presentation to the group about brewing and the differences between US and UK brewing approaches. Food was spot on. All our various dietary requirements were catered for, and all of us were satisfied. Staff were lovely and helpful, and the room was lovely, with period decoration really accentuating the uniqueness of the building. If I'm ever here again I'll be making a beeline for a visit

Just a quick drink, but exemplary welcome from the manager? He was very proud of his Inn and of the Thwaites Inns in general, his enthusiasm coupled with a great building roaring fire, and perfect pint - yep, in a happy place.

Walking in from a wet walk in the Dales, the friendly staff quickly get the keys to our room. The room was clean, tidy and well-equipped. We ate in the Lion's Den (because we had our dog with us). The food was good and the staff was friendly. A local folk band played in the bar, with the famous Mike Harding amongst them. The atmosphere was great. The next morning, we had a delicious cooked breakfast. The Golden Lion is a great place to stay in the Yorkshire Dales. There are plenty of walks nearby too.

Large and spacious pub (old coaching Inn) with large beer garden. Popular eatery with an extensive menu. About 6 real ales on offer. Definitely worth a view.

Ab Fab.🤗 Don't be fooled by what you see on the outside.🤔 Inside it is spacious, homely and friendly. The food was good, the beer was better. An unexpectedly pleasant surprise in a great little town. Well done. 👍

Just went for midday meal. Very nice. Had fish and chips, (going for something different there!!!) And it was delicious. They have small and large. The small was more than acceptable in size, any bigger and it will be reeled in from sea! Large open seating area, so not feel overwhelmed. Went Wednesday lunchtime, very quiet.

We first had some bread and olives to accompany some drinks the first night of our stay in Settle. The beer was excellent but the bread and olives nothing special. We went back on our last night for another well earned drink after a long day of walking and ended up getting hungry. The steak with garlic and chilli butter was superb, tender, perfectly cooked and very tasty. The OH's fish and chips very good too and sizable! Highly recommend.

Very nice. We dropped in for lunch and a long cold drink following a lovely hike. Excellent battered fish that was probably the best I have eaten for some considerable time. Happy to recommend.

We were looking for somewhere to stay fairly late in the evening and found this place. The guy at the bar was so helpful in directing us to book the rooms online. The rooms themselves were certainly not cheap but they did feel comfortable and had nice bathrooms. The carpet in my room had signs of wear and tear but isn't as bad as some places I've stayed at. The bar and food service was impeccable. The same guy who helped us book our rooms also served our food. The breakfast was also impressive with a buffet style continental breakfast and a full cooked English. Overall I would stay here again and I am willing to overlook the slightly soiled carpet in the bedroom. Regarding the bedroom I had a room facing the road. At 11pm when I went to bed there was hardly any traffic so noise isn't an issue. Traffic noise only started to appear at 7am and may be later at weekends. If you are arriving here by car there is a car park on the other side of the main road which is free to use between 6pm and 9am so you can leave the car there overnight without charge.

A pleasant town centre hotel and public house with quality beers and excellent menu. I've yet to stay here but if the accommodation is anything like the rest of the service then you'll have a comfortable time.

Brilliant pub in the heart of the delightful town of Settle. Plenty of seating yet a spacious feeling. The food is excellent and plentiful and there is a wide range of beers on offer for those connossieurs amongst us. Also would like to mention that our waitress, who I think was called Sarah, was a lot of fun and a definite asset to the place.

Lovely stay as a base for Yorkshire 3 peaks walk. Food is very good here, and excellent for those with dietary requirements. Rooms were nice and clean, perhaps a touch on the pricey side hence only giving it four stars- everything else with the stay and service was excellent.

The food was absolutely delicious and the service from the lovely lady in glasses was fantastic. The other ladies on shift were also great. However, the lady was absolutely run off her feet seemingly doing everything whilst the young guy with the mullet spent almost the whole time we were there, leaning on a dresser on his phone. Please ensure all your staff are working as a team to ensure everyone has a great experience, which we did thanks only to the lovely lady.

We had an absolutely amazing weekend stay. Can not recommend highly enough. The food was fantastic, staff friendly and so helpful, facilities great. You will need to pay to park in a local car park so car is not on sight but it is just around the corner but was not an issue for us. We will definitely be back for another stay.
