    1) if you’re going there thinking you’d see many bears, have a chance to interact with cubs or think it’s a petting zoo, then get ready to be very disappointed. 2) if you’re there to enjoy the rescued bears are well taken care of, and you love nature, then this sanctuary is worth visiting. 3) the scenic location, the landscape, the facilities being in harmony with nature and a nice maze made a day trip there a wonderful memory.

The bear zoo is truly remarkable, showcasing an impressive collection of bears. The enclosures are spacious, allowing the bears to roam freely. However, I suggest improving the pathways to make them more suitable for toddlers' strollers. Overall, it's an excellent place to learn about these magnificent creatures.

Great experience to see these beautiful bears up close. Only €2 for an adult entry. If travelling from Prishtina via taxi, then use the taxi service advertised on the website, or know what to pay (€25 for return and up to hour wait).

This place couldn't be any better at what it does! Leagues ahead of a zoo! As a Canadian Forester, these bears have everything they need in my amateur opinion. So much space to move around, they are so much better off than in their previous lives as restaurant jesters. Definitely a place worth supporting, you'll see plenty of bears too! Only 2.5€

Be careful the directions on Google maps are wrong. Follow the road signs and it is easy. Seems to be a great organization that is giving these bears a fantastic home. Beautiful large areas for them to roam. The unfortunate part is because the area is so large I didn’t see any bears. Nice walk through the woods though.

Excellent. This group are doing fantastic work looking after the rescued bears. It is cheap to enter and well worth the effort of going. The bears have big areas to roam around in and they are unconcerned by humans. I was happy to support their work.

(Translated by Google) Thanks for this place! Here liberated bears were housed in a species-appropriate environment. Before being rescued, the bears had to live in bad homes in private households or restaurants. Thank you for creating such a wonderful place! Everyone involved deserves the greatest respect. I had the impression that the animals here are great, even though the past can not be undone.

Awesome place to visit for both adults and kids. The bear have a huge amount of space and the sanctuary is very well maintained. You can spend hours walking around. The restaurant here was such a nice surprise, the food was excellent and made with organic produce it was a highlight.

If you are in Kosova this is a place you must visit. It is very close to the capital of Prishtina. Beautiful project, awesome staff working with bears, great nature and a perfect place if you want to go out with family and kids. Children will love seeing bears at this distance, these wonderful creations of God. There is a great shop for toys and stuff that kids would love,a place for drinks and also a restaurant to eat. Be prepared for the walk and take some good walking shoes. The road around the place is rocky but that is expected with wild animals... We really enjoyed it with our family.Lots of fun. There is an entrance fee to see the bears. We were a family group of ten so you get a discount if you go as a group. The ticket price is very cheap considering the experience. I really recommend this place..loved it...

Amazing up close experience. Look eye to eye with a 200kg grizzly! The bears have loads of room and seem pretty happy. It's very cheap too. Also really really great food in the restaurant (including delicious vegetarian!)

Fantastic Sanctuary completely dedicated to rehabilitating and rescuing Bears from Kosovo and Albania. Majority of the bears here have been confiscated from people that kept them as house pets or a source of entertainment. Bear Sanctuary treats them with respect and care these beautiful, wild creatures deserve. All donations, ticket prices and souvenir sales go towards upkeeping the bears.

A very beautiful park!! There is also a restaurant, gift shop and all the necessary guides of information so you won’t get lost. Beside the bears and the lion, you can find different attractive parts to spend your time playing! A tip: should be visited during summer, in the winter season most of the bears are in their deep sleep. A worthwhile visit!!!

Best 1.5€ I ever spent. They have 19 rescue bears at the sanctuary and we easily saw 11 or 12, fairly up close as well. The walk is about 2km round trip and very enjoyable. Good restaurant/cafe attached to the main building as well. Worth making a day trip from Skopje or Prishtina to see.

This is a must go when you are in Kosovo ⭐️ It’s around 20-25 min drive from the center of Pristina, you can get a taxi for 10-15€ The drive there is quite nice too, we visited in Oct midday around 12 PM, the weather was perfect. You can get a ticket for 2.5€ but we got tickets with a tour guide for 5€ and it was so very much worth it! The guide speaks very good English, she is very social and happy to answer any questions you might have about the bears or the rescues. She told us every single bear’s story, their name, age and how they were rescued, their personality and what they like to eat and their behaviors (which was v fun for me). There are 20 bears and a lion in the sanctuary, all rescued from Kosovo or Albania from horrible conditions. Some enclosures are smaller than other, some are a good size in my opinion. Nevertheless, you can see how happy the bears are, they are very relaxed and doing their own thing and bathing in the sun or chilling in the pool 🥹♥️ I am so happy that this place exists, these bears deserve an easy life. 10/10 recommend

Nicely done for a tour with kids. It csnxbe quite difficult with a pram as it is very steep and stoney. Bears are in good condition. There is a lot of side attractions for kids, let's say for all like a big nest, maze and so on. There is a restaurant on a place.

I visited the bear sanctuary in Prishtina, and while my overall experience was okay, I encountered some unfavorable behavior from the woman responsible for ticket sales. While waiting to purchase my ticket, I observed her engaged in conversation with a someone(non visitor) , seemingly unaware of my presence. Upon indicating my desire to purchase a ticket, her demeanor abruptly shifted to one of hostility, creating a sense of discomfort and unease to me as a visitor. Despite this unpleasant interaction, I found the sanctuary to be a somewhat good experience, with few bears on display for visitors, although the expected lion was unfortunately absent. I appreciated the opportunity to witness these majestic animals in a safe and humane environment.

This place is great and I highly recommend the visit. Their mission is to rescue and help bears that were caged by the restaurants or individuals in small cages, in terrible conditions. There are almost 10 huge enclosures and signs that explain each bear's (usually sad) history, its recovery and character. Some bears are still recovering from their past experiences, but most are obviously happy, playing with each other and roaming their enclosures. They are very curious and like to approach visitors at the fence, so you'll get a good look at them. The entrance fee is very low and it helps with their efforts. This place is a must, especially if you are travelling with children.

It was wonderful to see these rescued bears living an appropriate lifestyle. I do not support zoo culture so i was hesitant to go, but I am so glad I did. Learning about their pasts was shocking, however seeing the large enclosures they live in now was heartwarming. 4 paws is a terrific organization and I only hope that more people can learn the dark side of animal tourism so we can keep these guys where they belong- in the wild.

Very nice place! You can go inside for some fee and watch bears. Also, there is a bar outside with a great view and wonderful nature. A great place between Prishtina and Gjilan and close to Gracanica. For those ones who want to walk, its reachable from Prishtina andGerrmia National Park. Three hours one way and you are there. Signs are everywhere when you walk.

It's probably the best place in Kosovo. The sanctuary as of now has 19 bears and they have plenty of space and good staff that takes care of them. If you are in Prishtina and have half a day available, definitely go for a visit. A car is the most convenient way to go, but if you don't have a car, go to the main bus station in Prishtina and take the bus for Gjilan. Then drop off at Mramor (ask the bus driver, they will help you out). Then there is a 20 minute walk to the park. Follow the road signs, you won't have trouble finding it.

This sweet spot is a sanctuary not just for bears, but for travelers as well. Oh, it’s also a sanctuary for a lion. BEAR SANCTUARY Prishtina is a surprisingly wholesome place to go for a mile long walk (lots of steep inclines), read some cute informative plaques about bears, and enjoy natures beauties (and bears). 5 stars. Would recommend.

A bit far away (outside Prishtine) but I would say worth the trouble. Its 10 euros from the centre. There are over 20 bears and 1 lion. You wont see some of them before their areas are so massive but I got to see bears up close while they were just walking around close to the fence. The lion is not active until the late afternoon.

  • 5/5 Thomas F. 1 year ago on Google
The best €2 you will ever spend!! An amazing way to spend an afternoon. The walking paths are all loose rocks and can be quite hilly in certain parts so it’s best to wear good walking shoes. The full path is 1.5km from entrance to exit. If going by bus, take the Gjilan Line from Prishtina main bus station and get off at Mramor (will only cost €1). The walk from Mramor bus stop to the Sanctuary entrance is about 30mins.

We throughly enjoyed our experience here today. Paid 9 euro for the entrance fee and a private tour for 2. We met a lovely local woman that spoke English very well who showed us around the park and told us all about the bears and their history and how they came to be at the sanctuary. The views on the way to the sanctuary and insideit are breathtakingly beautiful. We arrived around 1.30 and enjoyed a delicious lunch before setting off, plenty of vegetarian/vegan options here. It was between 3 and 4 when we were shown around which was very fortunate timing as all the bears were near the fence waiting to be fed so we got to meet most of these amazing creature. If you have kids there's plenty for the to do around the park playground and inside activities. Will definetely be back.

In one word: AMAZING. Only 20 km from Prishtina, the forest and hills on the side of Badovci Lake have been partially transformed into an open park to preserve endangered bears (and recently a lion) that were kept in diastrous conditions and locked in cages. It offers a unique experience (I believe not only in Kosovo) for every visitor, especially the younger ages. Spread over an area of 16 ha, this sanctuary offers not only visible experiences of the animals, but also additional dynamic activities along the walking path. The staff is very friendly and welcoming. They are willing to answer your questions with a lot of excitement. And they give quite insightful advices on how to behave and what is the best way to enjoy the experience in the sanctuary. Make sure to wear suitable walking shoes. Do not tease the animals. Take a lot of pictures. And reflect on the lessons you get from this trip (there is even a cage exposed to reinforce the idea of freedom importance). No bus goes there, so you have to either go by car, hitchhiking or take the bus from Prishtina to Gjilan and stop near the lake - at the roadcross Mramor-Gjilan-Prishtinë (it is not a long walk from there). Price is 2.5€ for adults, but there are additional options too. Enjoy it and share with your peers!

Exceptional. Combine with a trip to the Gracanica monastery Bus for Gjilan from Pristina bus station every 20 to 30 minutes. 70 cents to monastery (free). A further 1 Euro to bus stop 2.7km walk from sanctuary. Admission Euro 2.50. Guide Euro 5. Reasonable lunch options around Euro 5. Bus stop across from old service station-see photos below. Sanctuary also runs buses - see their website. Note that this outing is not really manageable if you have mobility issues as the track to see the bears is steep in places.

  • 4/5 Julie R. 11 months ago on Google
Really enjoyed my visit - the enclosures are big chunks of forest giving the bears the best chance to adapt. Only 4 stars as the bins are overflowing all the way round and there didn’t appear to be a shortage of staff so someone should empty these, and the shuttle isn’t running despite a nice new sign at the end of the road. The walk is fine though

This is an absolutely wonderful place, where bears that were once caged and abused are allowed to live out the rest of their days in natural and peaceful surroundings. You really get a sense of the passion this centre has for its bears. There’s a lovely gift shop and restaurant on site; some of the paths are steep and with loose stones which some may find challenging. Adults were €2 when we visited in Autumn.

The bears are so adorable and look so happy and well taken care of! Did you know that back in the day restaurants used to torture these poor creatures by keeping them in small concrete cages for the entertainment of their guests, many times they were only fed bread crusts and other unhealthy things . Now they get to play in their enclosures and have a healthy diet. It’s a bit further out from the city- I took a taxi there and a bus back.

If you visiting Pristina, definitely put this place on top of your to-do list. It's a unique close-up experience with such powerful animals. However it's sad to think that such place exists in this day and age only due to human inflicted animal abuse. Therefore it's even more important to support the sanctuary at least by paying them a visit. In the cafeteria, I expected microwaved pizza but got a positive surprise. It was modest priced and enjoyable Italian food.
