Gandipet lake or Osman Sagar as it is called was made by damming the Musi River after the great flood of 1908 in which more than 10000 people were killed. The lake was created by the then and last Nizam of Hyderabad, Mir Osman Ali, and the lake is eponymous with his name. It was a solution to prevent flood as well as a source of drinking water for the residents of Hyderabad. Now there are a lot of parks and resorts around the lake, and weekend around the lake are a crowded affair. The famous Chilkur Balaji Temple is located on its banks.

This spot is closed. It is very frustrating when one travels all the way from city and finds to be closed. The concerned authorities should pitch in for action

It's a very popular tourist place and has been developing continuously. I went around 3 pm on Saturday, limited crowd. Entry fees: Adult - Rs.50 and Children - Rs.20 (fee a little too much) Parking facility inside - free. The place was well constructed with designer walls. Inside was very spacious with big trees intact. Seating benches were available here and there. You can get a very nice view of the lake. People were coming for photoshoot. The place was also famous as a picnic spot. Many have come with packed meals and eating there with families. Washroom facility available - free.

This was the beautiful place to visit and also right now the main view is closed up to next 5 months so please don't plan for Osman sagar lake. It's waste of going to long, however we find another route which touches the lake.

We went to this lake in the evening. There is ample car parking. Car parking is 20 Rs. After parking you can see a park. On paying Rs 10 per person you can enter the park. Nice for strolling around. You have some slides and see-saw for kids to play. Lot of people were picnicking here. You can also get view of the lake. Outside the park there is a small canteen. From there you can walk on the bridge and admire the lake. However you cannot go to the lake as it is fenced. Near canteen there are few stairs which take you to a sort of view point from where you can get clear view of the lake.

This large, expansive lake is a jewel of scenic beauty as well as a great birding spot. What I like most is that it is at a drivable distance and is mostly natural. My hubby participated in a clean up drive last year, so yeah, subject to the same abuse as all out natural resources are, I guess. But nevertheless, it’s an idyllic spot. We never managed to go to the viewing spot at Gandipet as it was mostly closed last year due to the pandemic, but had a up and close view near the Chilkur Balaji temple (which is also beautiful). Got some dramatic shots of the usual suspects.

Osman Sagar Lake offers a serene escape with its picturesque surroundings and pleasant views. However, it's important to note that weekends tend to be quite crowded, possibly impacting the tranquility of the visit. The entry ticket for adults is priced at a reasonable 50/-. Bike parking facilities are satisfactory, ensuring a convenient experience for visitors arriving on two-wheelers. Despite the occasional crowding, the lake provides a peaceful setting, making it an ideal spot to spend quality time with family. The expansive views and calm atmosphere contribute to a relaxing outing, allowing visitors to connect with nature. Overall, Osman Sagar Lake stands out as a worthwhile destination for those seeking a peaceful retreat amid nature, even if weekends might require a bit more patience due to the larger crowds.

Good place for chill out with children and parents. Have to go early to enjoy it else you will spend time in finding place for parking vehicle as there is limited parking inside. Park inside was opened recently and the greenery is good and under development still.

This lake is beautiful. Walk on the dam used to be very good. But now it's closed now for security reasons. There are few local carts of ice cream, corn etc. But you will not get proper food. It's good for kids as well. Overall good place for family and friends.

Almost half of the lake has dried up. Best to time to visit this place is monsoon.. Summer is the worst time. In winter you can see beautiful birds and have a wonderful time in the evening and early in the morning. Beautiful picturesque location.. Photographers delight, tiktokers will love this place for their outdoor video shoots. Recently me and my friends visited this place a 4am.. Dark, cold and adventure.. We spotted some birds, rabbits, frogs and snake in the dark.

Beautiful point to see sunset and sunrise on the lake by the dam. There's a nice park inside with an entrance fees of 10 rupees which is a short walk from a gate where entry of vehicles is prohibited. One can get a good glimpse of the river from the bridge covered in fence. It has a few rocks which can be climbed upon. There's also a small shop selling chips, coke etc. The parking fees for 2 wheeler is 10 rupees.

Huge reservoir in Hyderabad. Amazing views in the evening. Can sit and relax with friends and family. I saw some boats in the reservoir so definitely fishing is going on. Calm and peaceful. Best to go when it's a little cloudy, you will enjoy the evening for sure. Also the water is quite still here. Of course, general public is not allowed to the water.

Great sagar Osman Sagar, popularly known as Gandipet, is a reservoir in the Indian city of Hyderabad. The lake is around 46 km², and the reservoir is around 29 km², with total level of 1,790 feet and a capacity of 3.9 tmc ft. History:- Osman Sagar was created by damming the Musi River in 1920, to provide an additional source of drinking water for Hyderabad and to protect the city after the Great Musi Flood of 1908. It was constructed during the reign of the last Nizam of Hyderabad State, Osman Ali Khan, hence the name. A princely guest house called Sagar Mahal, overlooking the lake and now a heritage building, was built as a summer resort of the last Nizam. Its location on the banks of the lake offers wonderful views. Telangana Tourism Department operates a resort in the building. The breeze of the lake is very pleasant and has been popular with the locals since the Nizam's time.

The Largest of three lakes/reservoirs (Osman Sagar, Himayat Sagar and Hussain Sagar) in and around Hyderabad. It has been supplying drinking water to Hyderabad. Recent times, the reservoir is hardly getting any Inflows. Due to built up of numerous water-harvesting structures in the catchment area, water is not flowing into Osman Sagar for light rains. Water flows into reservoir only during heavy rainfall.
